“Functional Hotel”
Reviewed January 12, 2012

I stayed here overnight on the way to Vientiane and stopped over in Udon for primarily shopping. The hotel is cheap and comes with clean room. The room was basic but staff were helpful. The hotel is not very costly and bed was ok.

I did not have chance to taste the food in the restaurent but the breakfast was ok as well. The staff noticed that I am not taking asian dishes so they approached me with egg menu.

A swimming pool is also under construction. I think with swimming pool it will be good hotel to stay.

It is located near the lake but I did not have much time so did not take advantage of it.

Nice room with decent bathroom.
4th floor bar and restaurant quite nice with great view.

Unfortunately I found that the hotel emergency lighting doubles as the main room lighting.
Therefore at 1.00 am all the lights came on in room due to a power outage , lasting about 2 hours.

Otherwise would give 4 stars.

Stayed there for a couple of nights and I was dissapointed. For the Thai conditions it is an expensive hotel, with all additional services (drinks in the bar, restaurant, etc.) costing much more than in some 4* places in Bangkok. This place calls itself 'Design' hotel, but I have no idea what it actually means. There was nothing 'design-like' about this place. It is clean, the service is good, the meals and drinks were OK, but at this prices I expected much more.

Having stayed in several different hotels in Udon Thani, I'd have to say that The Prajaktra Design Hotel is one of the nicer hotels in the city. While far from perfect, and perpetually unfinished, the Prajaktra is a clean and stylish alternative to the many terrible hotels in Udon Thani.

Last year I did also stay at this new hotel and at that time it was far from finished. And although there is still no swimming pool (but they told me when I made a reservation) there are improvements like the buffet breakfast has improved much, the rooftop restaurant & bar has improved and in the "standard" room we had everything was working like it should be and the room was comleted (finished). The WIFI was working good.

Still the rooms are not worth the walk-inn price they say at the front-desk (not that I did pay that of course)

Stayed here for 2 days at the end of March in a Superior room and agree with the last reviewer...the floor plan and layout of the rooms are terrible. There is no separate bathroom as the shower (using frosted glass enclosure) and sink are right in the room next to the bed. Thankfully there is a door to a separate toilet area but it also has a frosted glass bi fold door. They have a raised bowl sink in the middle of the room so there's no mirror over the sink....which makes shaving a real pain in the morning!

The pool across the drive from the hotel probably will never be finished. It's in the concrete block/unfinished concrete stage and doesn't look like any work has been performed on it for quite some time. Due to rain we didn't get to use the upstairs restaurant and just did room service. the food and service was good and also found the lobby staff to be pleasant.

Even though the hotel is soon having their 1 year anniversary, walking round the hotel you still see a lot of unfinished detailing (missing door trim, rough exposed tile to carpet transitions etc).

The hotel is not worth the money and definitely won't be staying there again.

I have stayed at 3 different "upscale" (as you can get in Udon) hotels in the past year. Prajaktra is not worth the price. It's a new hotel with modern design but GREATLY lacks practical thinking for a hotel.

1) Their rooms do not have toilet paper, instead they give one ply square napkins.
2) There is no privacy inside the room, as the shower is inside the general sleeping area. Do not stay with anyone in this hotel who you are not accustom to seeing naked. Also with our particular room, the window opens up directly to the elevator walkway, so we had to choose between being in a windowless room, or letting anyone who passed by see us sleep in bed (or showering)
3) The staff was very rude and uptight. The website clearly states free transportation to the mall, but when inquired about it the receptionist made me feel like we needed to pay for a tuk tuk.
4) The sink is in such a way that it cannot be used for brushing your teeth without getting water outside the basin area and all over the counter top. Also toilet seat did not cover the entire bottom of the toilet, so sitting on requires touching where pee lands
5) Breakfast wasn't worth waking up for.
6) The room was noisy, as there was a banquet upstairs
7) There is nothing to do in the area except for the lake. It is far from the main area of Udon.
8) Internet is slow, and I ended up using my mobile/3g connection instead.
9) Mattress is hard, pillows are ok

One positive tho is the 4th floor bar is very pretty over looking the lake
