Sometimes you wonder what kind of value proposition you will get from a hotel that charges such exorbitant daily rates. Somehow, the Amanpuri manages to deliver and justifies all the $$$ you have spent here. Money does buy you privacy, extraordinary service and a magnificent location. Without being intrusive, the service was warm, friendly and personalized. You really felt like you had a team of individuals that were looking out only for you. Made you feel very special.

The resort is located on a whole peninsula between Surin and Laguna beach, with commanding views and a stunningly beautiful private beach. The gym is situated on the highest point of their private peninsula giving it the best location I've ever seen for a health club! From the glass walled structure you have commanding views of all the beaches below while you're trying to focus on your breathing while running on the treadmill!

The villas are very large and beautifully appointed, combining lots of wooden features, mirrored walls and great lighting. Not to mention the antique table in the middle of your room with a gorgeous flower arrangement. Outside you have a very private pavilion with magnificent vistas for your relaxation, in a lush setting. Privacy abounds! There are only 40 villas on the resort, great pool area and the sound of cicadas that accompanies you all day long.

This is paradise!

The Amanpuri is pure understated elegance and exceeded our expectations in every way. We stayed there for 6 nights to celebrate my wife's birthday so it was the perfect romantic and relaxing spot and a holiday we will never forget.

The service is truly thai so very special (and discreet) and the restaurant choice and menu selection is first-class. If you are lucky enough to stay here, the beach barbeque should not be missed.....500+ candles lit the steps leading to the beach!!

One tip --- ask for a pavilion on the 1st level for its proximity to the restaurants and beach. There are golf carts just a call away but our preference was to walk.

We enjoyed every minute of our stay and wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to others.

I have been to their signature Restaurant for an informal dinner. We were a party of three, two Executive Chefs with over twenty years of experience each, and another friend in the hotel business as well, although not in the kitchen.
We were received with courtesy and professionalism, promptly guided to our booked table. I won't state anything on the beauty of the setting and furniture as it is a mere matter of individual taste, but I can certainly say that everything is clean and very well maintained, even in the smallest invisible details.
The staff is extremely courteous and proactive, maintaining a discreet yet pleasant attitude.
The Executive Chef, came himself to take our order and we had the brilliant idea to leave the choices to him, that's something we will never regret.
It is a rare event, in the short span of a human life, to have in one dinner, such a display of superb technique and refined aestheticism combined with a very uncommon sense of balance, both in presentation and flavors. I wish, one day, to reach that level!
Our dinner was much more than just the fulfilling of a physiological need, but a visionary trip on unexplored grounds. Ingredients and flavors were matched together in perfect harmony, yellow fin tuna and a subtle sea urchin foam serves as an example.
I won't waste words on arguments such as "value per money", as an experience like that is simply priceless!

Like many Tripadvisor users, I battled where to stay in Phuket after reading some less than stellar reviews of old age and lackluster service. I am so thrilled I didn't listen to them! While I have no doubt that had I stayed elsewhere, my $1600 per day (including food/drink) could easily get me a grand accommodation with a private plunge pool - what I would be missing is what Amanpuri is all about. There are no oversized turquoise pools or glitzy fountains - only the serenity of architecture that seamlessly blends into the tropical environment. From the black tiled pool to the pavilion interiors - the finishings are far more stunning than their photographs suggest (Trust me - I poured over them when deciding where to stay). This is one of the places that you MUST experience to understand.

Service - AS GOOD AS IT GETS. From the moment we were greeted at the hotel with cold towels and champagne to the moment we left, we never detected even a slight hiccup in the service. From the restaurant staff to the spa - I couldn't have asked for more. As the heart of the Amanpuri is the beach - I was blown away by the service. My feet were never hot on the sand bc someone was always making a water trail from my beach chair to the sea. Speaking of chairs, a super comfortable lounger with pillows and cushions to fall asleep on. Do you want sun or shade? That's not the question. Do you want your umbrella moved every 20 minutes while the sun is changing so you don't get unintentional exposure? Would you like pineapple on a stick or a complimentary smoothie? These additional touches make all of the difference. We swam out to see the look-out point where fish congregate (you can have someone take you by speed boat as well). In addition to keeping bread to attract the fishes, the hotel provides bottled water and towels (in the middle of the sea) just in case you want to dry off while on the platform. They simply get it. They understand what their clientele want and they deliver.

Food/drink were varied enough to never get boring yet limited to what they can execute well. A highlight was the beach bbq ($150 per person + alcohol). White napkin service at a beach buffet? YES. All of the raw bar necessities with the best of Thai offerings and an informal night under the stars. The Thai restaurant was excellent and the traditional Thai breakfast was a lovely surprise. While reviews clearly state otherwise, the Japanese restaurant wasn't up to our standards. Perhaps they had an off night but the fish was simply not good. This was the ONLY glitch in an otherwise perfect stay.

The Fitness center is not to be missed. Even if you aren't in the mood to get your sweat on - you must see this beautiful space! And, if you are a fan of pilates, gyrotonics or yoga - there is a lovely private studio. Oh! Make sure to snag one of the homemade granola bars at the gym - DIVINE.

Room Tip: Book the best for your budget as upgrades are slim

Here you can be quiet or socialise: it is set in spectacular gardens - the staff extremely friendly and helpful. The best beach in Asia. Food extremely good, though, as others have said, rather expensive. that aside, simply blissful.

We spent three days at Amanpuri which made me understand very well why this is again and again voted one of the best hotels in the world. Highly recommended.

Design and general
I really loved the timeless, monumental and beautiful Thai design of Amanpuri. The maintenance is excellent; I have been to several SE Asian resorts which are much newer, but have looked worn and tired, even just a couple of months after opening. This was absolutely not the case for Amanpuri.
All the steps were a bit hard to walk at least in the heat and it would have been better if would have been possible to go around by buggy.

Accommodation
We were in a garden at Amanpuri. Quite a number of steps to climb going back up, but quiet and private.
While the pavilions at Amanpuri are really nothing size wise compared to the Trisara villas where we stayed as well (smaller, limited outside area etc.), I was very positively surprised. I thought the inside area was bigger than I had expected and the design is just so timeless and beautiful, especially the bathroom. Very generous storage space in wardrobe. Missed storage space in the bedroom for books, toys, sunglasses, cameras and all those not bathroom related things I bring along. Outside area has sun loungers that we did not use and a very nice Thai sala for meals and lounging. Good reading light in the night here.

Service
Excellent. There was never one little mistake done for orders in restaurant or in room dining and all our requests were immediately taken care of to our full satisfaction. Housekeeping, drivers and all personnel at the lobby area were very friendly and highly efficient.

Beach and pool
The Amanpuri beach is a dream, one of the best I have ever been to; Maldives quality (but less fish to see, of course), soft sand, turquoise water, palm trees. Divine!!! Excellent service with comfortable loungers, pillows (really very good ones), plenty of towels, water, fruit, moving of umbrellas without having to ask etc. etc. The fact that it is not completely private did not disturb us at all, only very few people walk by some times. Only thing I did not like was the beach toilet which I found in need of a renovation + they should tidy and clean it more often.
The main pool at Amanpuri is beautifuly but really never used unless it is cloudy as they, for design reasons, do not have umbrellas. It looks stunning, but what is the point when no guests use it? There is another pool (with loungers and umbrellas) at the beach and a small kids pool, but we preferred to be at the beach.

Food
We felt that the choice in terms of venues was a big advantage in Amanpuri: There is the main, Thai restaurant, the Italian restaurant, Naoki (the Japanese/French restaurant) + down at the beach in addition to in room dining.
Quality of the food was excellent. Mostly we enjoyed the Naoki restaurant and the Thai food.

Spa
Visited the Amanpuri spa for massage. The quality of the treatment and the the look and tranquil ambience of the Amanpuri spa is really good.

Gym
The new gym at Amanpuri is nothing less than fantastic. Huge with all the best equipment, fantastic view, great trainers, a large, separate room for pilates etc. etc. It is a gym that makes you want to exercise more!

Outside Activities
We went by hotel car to visit Phuket town from Amanpuri. Very nice driver who showed us everything and waited with water and towels when we came back from own walks around. Some nice old buildings and temples to see in the old town, but not a must-do excursion. We ended the evening with dinner at “The Blue Elefant” which was very good.

Children
No kids at all at Amanpuri while we were there. However, resort is absolutely children friendly: Kids menus at all restaurants, toys at beach, great beach for sand castle building and playing, kid’s pool for young kids, farewell amenity for kids. Kid’s bed (rollaway) could either be placed in bedroom or they would put a mattress in the wardrobe area with a “fence”.

This is a very beautiful hotel. We were upgraded to one of the best rooms at the hotel. Our room has an ocean view, and was lovely. We ate at the Italian restaurant one night, and it was great. We took the AmanI boat for a day cruise of Phang Na bay which was very nice also. Our last night we had arranged for massages at the spa. The nice ladies speak little english, but told us that if we wanted to come half hour or so early we could use the steam room which is what we did. We were shown the open changing room which also includes the steam room. We are 2 middle aged ladies, and were very surprised once we had stripped off all our clothes and entered the steam room that there was a man in there!! Very embarrassing! It would have been fine if we were told in advance, and I wonder why we needed to "arrange the time in advance" if it was open to all. The staff were very confused as to why we were upset. Then the massage we arranged turned out to be a "couples" massage, which is not a huge deal, but-really? During the treatment the massage ladies were snickering back and forth (guess these tiny ladies are not familiar with flabby american woman's thighs!) and in the middle of the massage-a man unexpectedly enters the room! What more could go wrong? More!
After we hurry back again to the open changing room-we are rudely questioned by an unnamed supermodel who was at the hotel asking if we were taking her picture and posting them on the internet!!! Are you kidding me. As stated before-we are flabby middle aged women on the trip of a lifetime-not paparazzi. It was very uncomfortable. In addition one of the sinks in our room had a clogging problem, and we had to call maintenance every night because a HUGE palmetto bug would come up the drain. They came and got rid of the huge bug every night, but never addressed the clog. With all that said, I would still recommend the hotel-just not the spa.
