A very friendly authentic Indian restaurant that has a lively Sports Bar next to it.. The food is fantastic and in particular, the tandoori chicken and chicken ticka masala is delicious. The garlic nan breads are mouth watering. There is a very nice atmosphere and the service is excellent!

A no miss opportunity for curry lovers to experience probably the best Indian Restaurant on the beautiful island of Phuket!

Having been used to the Indian gastro-pubs of North West London, I felt compelled to write favourably about Deepavali as soon as I could (within an hour of dining there!)

We were a family of nine (4 seniors, 3 adults, 2 children).
Reserving was a cinch - booked for same day - with a very thoughtful confirmation call ensuring we knew where to find the restaurant as they have two outlets. We arranged for a (free) pick up and drop back from the Angsana Phuket at the Laguna as we were not familiar with the area. Courteous, prompt, conscientious driver, in an air conditioned 12 seater.

The company has two restaurants, one slightly smaller, a stone's throw from Laguna Phuket main entrance and the other (where we ate) slightly further into town in a pleasant and what I determined to be a slightly more up market area of Thalang. The owners have combined the latter with a sports bar where live matches are aired on flat screens (note previous reference to NW London Indian gastro-pubs) but also to include a separate more western menu (fish and chips, pizza, lamb chops, sausage and mash, etc).

We sat inside in the "fine dining restaurant". Comfortable seats in a table arranged to seat everyone with ample space inside the restaurant. Temperature was perfect, no blaring air con, just a cool room. We were the only diners inside which allowed the kids to select their own choice of channel to watch on the TV. We ordered a variety of dishes from the Indian menu - veg samosas, fish tikka, popadums, paneer masala, kidney beans curry, paneer curry, chicken vindaloo, fish masala, butter chicken, jeera aloo, chana masala and a selection of breads (chapattis, rotis, naans) and for dessert, gulab jamun. The bar list is extensive and some good but pricey wines on offer also. We treated ourselves to a South African chardonnay which came in at a steep B1700.

I concur with most of the reviews that the food is of very good quality. I cannot judge whether this is the best Indian or "curry" (Ruby) on offer in Phuket and I suspect there are local Thai curries which are much better. However from my own experience of a week so far in Thailand (1st time visit) I had struggled to find a good chicken dish - not so much the flavour but the quality of the poultry - and my faith was restored by the two chicken options mentioned above. A sign they use fresh, quality produce. From a flavour perspective, we asked for some dishes to be made milder than normal, which the cooks prepared to our satisfaction - a sign that none of the dishes are pre-prepared and sauces are completed to personal taste from a base sauce. The time it took to prepare the food also alluded to the quality - this is not a fast food joint, the chef and cooks do take time to make each dish. The dishes are also authentic - the chef was trained in an Indian restaurant and now is running the kichen at both outlets. The flavours are thrilling, some of the best I've had.

What made the experience special also was the attentive staff - we had one waitress, very knowledgable, helpful and spoke reasonable English, so very Thai. The restaurant is very kids friendly although would love to be here when it's ram packed with locals and ex-pats watching a live major sporting event!

Only reason for not giving it a 5/5 is that it's not a "fine dining" restaurant although the quality of food is definitely something to be proud of.

Would therefore highly recommend the restaurant and expect to pay one last visit before heading off.

We ate at Deepavali one night and had it delivered another. We were with our 2 toddlers and infant, so went early for dinner. We were the only ones in the inside restaurant (there's also an open-air area). The food was delicious (though we didn't like the Tandoori Roti and Roti Prata as much as we have other places in Asia) and the service was great!

We tried both this restaurant and Baluchi's. Deepavali is by far the better restaurant.
The food is excellent, the service is unbeatable and atmosphere is great. The only possible downside is that it is quite a distance from Patong and Marriott hotels. It is worth the trip to this restaurant.
Whilst we were there there was a power cut and we had most of our meal in candlelight which added to our experience. How they managed to cook without power is beyond us. (They used torches and cooked on gas)
We stayed at Marriott and this restaurant is located about half way to Patong. I have recommended this restaurant to Marriotts so if you are staying there "Amm" may recommend this restaurant to you. You will not be disappointed.
