“Need to Chill-Out? This is THE Place!”
Reviewed May 23, 2011

Tenta Nakara is a tented resort on the island of Koh Naka, which is a few kms off the north east coast of Phuket. The resort is reached by long-tail boat from Ao Po pier - a journey which takes less than 20 minutes.

My (adult aged) daughter and I stayed for 4 nights during April/May 2011. I chose Tenta Nakara because we were both in need of some "chill out" time to re-charge our batteries and it looked well suited for this purpose.

It turns out I chose well! The resort is beautiful, charming and rustic. Potential guests should bear in mind that there is no electricity in the rooms - so no air-conditioning, hot water etc. Even though the rooms are under cover, we found they were too warm to rest in during the heat of the afternoon. However there was a comfortable hammock on the balcony. Alternatively the beach chairs under shady trees had a lovely cooling breeze. Perfect.

The bed was fairly firm, but comfortable enough. There's very little man-made noise to disturb you. Just insects, birds and monkeys howling in the distance from time to time. One night there was a thunderstorm and I loved listening to the rain and thunder. By design, only half of the bathroom has a roof, so you shower in the sunshine, under the blue skies. A cold (well, "cool" would be more accurate) water shower in the morning was definitely refreshing. Invigorating actually!

They run a generator at the restaurant in the evening from 6-10pm, so you can recharge any electronic devices should you need to.

The staff were very friendly and helpful. Beers were cold. Food was great. Reasonable prices. We did a half day snorkelling trip to Koh Kai one day. Snorkelling was good but the island itself was too crowded for me, so I was glad to get back to the peace and calm of Koh Naka.

The resort has a kayak or two for guest use and they provide Thai massage services that need to be pre-booked. There's not a lot else to do there. So it's the sort of place you go with your Kindle (or a good book), take long walks on the beach, swim, relax and just unwind.

If you're think of going I suggest checking the rates at Thaiotel.com. That's where I found the best deal.

In summary, my daughter and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would be only too happy to visit again.

My wife accompanied me on my latest business trip to Thailand where I visit quite often. We have been everywhere from Chieng-Mai to Phuket on business trips and holidays. On this hastily planned business trip to Bankok, a friend recommended a short visit to a "unique" resort called Tenta Nakara before returning home to Sydney, Australia.

It would be very difficult for us to forget the 4 days and 3 nights spent at Tenta Nakara as, despite all our travels around the world, we have never been so close to mother nature, and have not witnessed such a sincere respect for same. There is nothing pretentious about the place, from the friendly smiles on the faces of the staff and management, to the clean and comfortable, yet humble huts sitting quitetly behind their environment, the resort display a deep-rooted culture of sincere respect for nature. Sea, sand, sun, beautiful sceneries, superb (and I mean surprisingly superb) food, and friendly service. For us, Tenta Nakara is truely a paradise on earth towhich we intend to visit every chance we get.

We had booked one night in advance but ended up staying one more night due to the incredible staff and generous owner.

It is quiet, private and really cosy. The best service we encountered during our two weeks in Thailand and the friendlist staff I have ever encountered. They are all very sweet and really do their best to ensure you have a great holiday. It is what service is all about. Because of its size and relatively few bungalows it becomes a very personal experience.

The island is gorgeous. The beach is private and the restaurant have great food. If you expect luxury in the shape of yacuzzis and expensive champagne this is not the place for you. This is the place to relax and it is perfect for romance. Take your time to talk to the owner Paul, he is fluent in English, not very common in Thailand. He has put his heart and soul into the resort he calls Tenta Nakara and him and his staff wants you to experience those feelings too.

They have long tails taking you to and from the island to Phuket, only 15 minutes away. They have games if you get tired of sun bathing.

It is definately the place for relaxation and having a cold beer in the sun. I will make sure I go back to Tenta when I go back to Thailand.

In a few words: Simply gorgeous and our best two nights out 15 in Thailand.

The idea of a luxury tent to live an ecotourist holiday is a good idea. It's lovely to fall asleep with the sound of the sea and the birds.
The food is also very good and the staff is very friendly and helpful.

One big gap anyway: the tent has a bathroom which is not covered, no roof, it's open air. If it rains you can't take a shower and during the night, if you need the toilet, you really need to wake up, inspecting the area to see if there are insects or animals or be careful to mosquitos.

As you pay more than 50 euro per night, than i would this is something that it should be improved as it is not confortable at all.

spent 3 nights in this hotel and i loved it! except the restaurant (and the beach could be better) bungalows are really nice and big, the island is beautiful (beaches around, village, view, landscape), definitely recommend it!
cons: service at the restaurant is really bad (had to wait 1 hour every time to get my meal, and it was cold), waiters don't speak english and food quality could be better. Also transfer to the airport is expensive.
pros: Very quiet, bungalows are great, nature is amazing. great place to rest, lots of activites on the island (massage, trips etc.).

we stayed three ights on this wonderful quaint little island and were amazed at the abundance of nature's wonders on display. we hired a sea canoe and paddled around the island in very calm waters. lots of sea life to see, fish jumping out of the water, turtles and heaps of crabs on the beach. At night having dinner in their outdoor restaurant watching the tide come in and the fire flies were spectacular. The bungalows were pretty comfortable beds a bit hard but I have had worse. A little tip because their but is no hot water have a shwer in the late afternoon the water is nice and warm. The only criticism that i have is that it is faily hot at night and a fan of some description would make it easier to sleep but waking up to a beautiful sunrise was magnificent. If your going to Thailand do yourslf a favour and spend a couple of days on this little peice of paradise.

How to explain Tenta Nakara? First off, I only want nice people to go to Tenta Nakara - there is such a great group of staff that I only want nice people to stay. So if you are even a little bit obnoxious or not nice - don't stay in Tenta Nakara. Next, if you want a resort layout beach, different places to eat and drink, activities, shopping - do NOT, repeat, do NOT, stay at Tenta Nakara. OK, for those who are still reading this, Tenta Nakara is very special place if you are searching for living within the environment or natural ecology. The accommodations were top-notch combination of aesthetically pleasing, very comfortable, natural. Sleeping in platform tents and relying upon natural breezes, we were always comfortable. (Each platform's bathroom is outside, so you must be comfortable sharing it with an occasional gecko or whatever...(remember, they were there first..!)). Tenta Nakara's restaurant (the only choice available) served absolutely delicious Thail and Asian food. The breakfast (I believe included) was super and one has lots of choices (from pancakes to more traditional Thai). The beach was small and dependent upon the tide, but it was definitely very nice. Electricity is generated only a few hours an evening, so if you need your electronic gadgets, etc. all the time, don't stay here. At Tenta Nakara, one can read books, rest, relax because that's it......In short, we loved the place, but we were looking to avoid the usual beach and resort routine. Again, only nice people apply!!!
