“Excellent service and comfort - quiet & relaxing”

First: this is ON the island of Ko Samet, NOT on Rayong (mainland), therefore the map is wrong, I hope TA can correct this. If you use Google Map, you'll see exactly where it is: north west of the island, the last resort where you can actually see the sunset.
Second: the professional photo that looks to be taken from a cliff doesn't belong to this resort, other photos are quite accurate.

We had a very nice and professional welcome, the staff was very attentive from the reception to the room to the porter. Our room had a view on the garden, very zen and agreeable atmosphere. The open-sky shower is a fun touch. The room had fresh fruits, and was equipped with umbrella & flash light. In the bathroom, 3 towels each.

The restaurant was very good, we loved the curry with duck and lychees among other dishes. The prices are the same as other good restaurants on the island (Tubtim, Samed Villa) at the exception of the whole sea-bass (x2,5) or the wine (ridiculously priced at $60 to $400 a bottle!). About 1,000 bath for 2, tip included.

When we left, we had to go before breakfast time. The staff very efficiently prepared us two big boxes each. This was very unexpected and kind.

Anything wrong? Well, it is the very last resort so not too much choice to eat anywhere else by foot. Then again taxis are only 150 bath ($5) to downtown.

Room Tip: A row: beach front B row: no view (avoid) C and D rows: garden & pond view, very relaxing.

I visited this resort during Songkran (difficult to find resort). However, I was undable to stay there over night because.
1. Lots of mosqutos in the room.
2. Smell of DDT and made me about to vomit *****
3. Some dirt fell from ceiling on the bed.

I think the beach is nice but facilities are not maintained. Pool and bar are dirty and old. Room is not clearn but can torrerate.

Finally, due to the second reason I had to move to another resort near by.

This resort has a perfect location for nature lovers who wish to experience the charm of Ko Samed's National Park : very quiet at the end of the road to the northernmost part of the island, the nice bungalows made of natural materials with a Bali style touch are perfectly integrated under the shade of huge trees. A lot of birds, including hornbills sometimes although we did not see them this time. At the same time, the resort is also located on a long, white sand beach, and has a very nice and pleasant swimming pool. Going to the village is easy, 10 minutes with the local taxi, or a 45 minutes walk.

Great resort to stay if you want a peaceful break from a hectic day to day life.

Situated right at end of the island it is very quiet and relaxing.

Friends of ours stayed at the Sunrise villas and were more than happy to spend a day at the pool, where they felt they had more space to just be.

The pools and villas are within surrounding trees/jungle and everyday your guaranteed to see a toad, lizard, gecko or local bird. It's just beautiful.

The staff were fantastic. My husband and I had a motorcycle accident and they helped in every possible way. From arranging taxis to get to the local clinic daily to delivering food and drinks to the room.

The food was outstanding and we enjoyed every meal we ate.It was a shame we were only there for a week as I would of liked to try more on the menu.

We had a cooking lesson with the chef which was a wonderful experience and well worth the money. We cooked two dishes with added extras of vegetables, rice and chicken satay which we ended up sharing with friends.

I have read previous negative reviews about the shower and this was one of he highlights for us. Showering in the open air with the trees above was WOW especially hearing the birds and geckos.

It's really easy to get around the island. I would recommend a quad which is a safer option to our hired moped. The mopeds and motorbikes are really dangerous and we saw many tourists in the clinic from accidents each day. The doctor told us that he sees patients everyday from motorcycle accidents.Quads are really the best option as taxis are quite expensive to get around on a daily basis.

We visited many of the restaurants along the track and recommend the German/Thai restaurant and the bed and bar for some music with a live DJ,lychee cocktails and chocolate lava cake! : )

This island was beautiful and it was a shame we had an accident which inhibited further explorations. I 100percent recommend this resort.

Thank you Moonban Talay for a wonderful time!

Resort is located in a quiet part of the island. The private beach makes you feel like you have the whole beach for yourself! The bungalows are located at the seafront or in the beautiful garden which is more like a forest. It is true that some renovation work needs to be done. However my bungalow was in a good shape. There is an outdoor shower which makes it a challenge to have a shower after dark. Breakfast was nice, so were lunch and dinner served by friendly thai people in the restaurant. I found this resort very charming. I felt very relaxed after a few days Mooban Talay Resort. The provide a direct ferry from the hotel to the mainland for free. Great service. This resort is not for party people, but if you want to party, it´s less then 10 mins on a motorbike away.

We are writing the restaurant review here as there is none listed. This is our 20th trip to Ko Samet but our 4th to Mooban Talay for lunch in 5 years. Unfortunately the 4th trip was NOT the charm, they have obviously changes chefs int he last 2 years for the worse :(( a big disappointment as we took a foodie amigo with us and so a bit embarrassing. Had 2 of the same 3 dishes as 2 years ago and nothing even similar--in particular the tom yum was frightful, straight out of a Knorr's soup pack and too salty to eat. Unfortunately the service matched the quality of food: two zombie-like waitresses who literally came to the table ONLY when you didn't need them. Mistake after mistake, like a video of how not be a waiter. And as this restaurant is 40% more expensive than the average on Koh Samet an an hour's walk from the rest of the island, there is simply no excuse. Too bad.

Hotel is nice enough, located at the end of a road with private little houses set in a tropical forest. No TV in the room. I asked reception: no TV in this hotel. Free wifi, but it stops at 22.00 hours at night.
Lots of staff around, but they don't do much. We think the hotel lacks a manager, and if there is one: what is he doing?

The pool is not big, but it is nice. It was off-season, we wondered what happens when the hotel is full ? Then the pool is really too small and there are not enough loungers around to accommodate the guests.
Unfortunately there was a lot of sand on the bottom of the pool. People bring it in when they come from the beach and take a swim in the pool. PLEASE clean the pool every day. It is a must.
The whole feel of the hotel is that it is falling apart. Renovation is needed and a more attentive general manager could make all the difference.

Negative point are the many (fishing) boats in the sea not far from the hotel. They sometimes keep their engines running for hours. We think the fisherman live on these boats and every morning (or night) they dump their carbage in the sea, including their turds and other rubbish. It all came floating to the hotel's beach!!!! We did not swim in the sea anymore after seeing it drift on shore.

You can easily order a taxi and ask him to bring you to the village (I think it was 150 Baht). Lots of shops, pharmacy, massage, etc. Walk till the end of the villagestreet and you will come to the National Park, the entry. It is a big name for not much, just keep on walking. There is really no need to pay the entrance fee. Keep walking, some more shops, then the beach with lots and lots of nice restaurants. A bit of a tourist trap, but still a very good place to have a drink or have something to eat. Very enjoyable.

Next time I think we would like to try another hotel.
