“Excellent place to stay”
Reviewed April 26, 2013

I can only assume the people leaving less than great reviews were staying in the cheaper rooms, in the old building. I didn’t see these rooms, but this is all I can imagine, as the room I was in was fantastic. Huge size, very comfortable bed, amazing sea views. I loved the place and stayed an extra night because it was so nice there. It’s in a quiet area, but restaurants and bars etc. aren’t far away, if you’ve got a car. The only slight negatives were the odd design of the bathroom (shower head, but no shower screen or high bracket to take a shower) meaning that it was either a bath, or a shower whilst sitting, with the latter getting water all over the place; and the service could also be improved in a number of areas, but overall everyone was very friendly and a pleasure to deal with.

I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend the hotel, but can only recommend the slightly more expensive rooms in the new building. Amazing views and first class rooms. I’m certain this hotel will have at least one extra star before too long.

I would definitely recommend it to anyone looking or a great place to stay in the area.

Room Tip: Stay in the new building

Overall, this property continue to be a good place to stay at. A bit pricey if one does not use a discount booking agent.
The room I had come with inconsistent water temperature in the shower, regardless of how many times it was adjusted. The danger being for children that could become boxed in, as the shower door opens inward leaving very little room to escape

Room Tip: S.W. facing rooms pushed the airconditioner to the max, and I finally requested maintenence to check...

This hotel is in the middle of nowhere. The checkin counter area has parts of the roof missing and the staff are not very friendly or helpful.
There is supposed to be a mini mart and cafe/bakery but these were completely empty with no goods or staff and look as though they have never been used. There is a basic gym but it is not air-conditioned.
Even with a car it is a pain to drive to other locations nearby for simple shops and there were no decent restaurants within a 10-15km radius. The restaurant in the hotel was very poor standard and my penang curry was served with raw shrimp. The prices were very high by thai standards and especially for the simple meals provided.
The room is extremely large but bare and no functional furniture except for the bed (A wing). The work desk has a stool instead of a chair and is no good for people trying to work. The bathroom has no real functional shower as you have to kneel in the bathtub where it is mounted or hold it yourself. Water goes all throughout the room as there is no screen. The air conditioner is also very noisy.
The only good point about the hotel is the fast internet but I suspect it is only due to the fact there were very few guests at all staying there!

Room Tip: Find another hotel.

Other rating reports on this hotel are quoted as describing it as being in the middle-of-nowhere; which is a metropolis compared to this place. Once ensconced you are at the non too tender mercies of the staff.
The dusty hotel limousine seems to be the preferred transport of the management - the front office wanted a 1800 Baht fee for a one way 50 klick trip to Pattaya and 400 Baht for a 10 klick return journey to the Tesco Lotus at Bang Chang for essential shopping; as the advertised hotel minimart was permanently closed and had little stock to sell even if it was open. The is no mini bar only an un-stocked refrigerator and there is no shopping available locally within a reasonable and convenient walking distance.
There are three ancient and non too safe motor cycles for rent at 300 Baht per half day with no pro rata reduction for multiple days.
Wi-Fi is available at 300 baht a day with a pro rata reduction for multiple days. Dining in is not to be recommended although the "free" breakfast is,
Staying on the 4th floor we benefited from a constant and pleasant sea breeze on the balcony; any lower and I would doubt that benefit would exist. The beach front wing is oppressively hot and the private beach is cluttered with detritus on the tide line.
The hotel is noisy at the weekend until 23:00 as it is used for corporate events and parties which negates its only attraction as a quite retreat, if you have a car, from Bangkok or Pattaya. This hotel is basically a sleep shop having little that would justify its description as a resort or less its description as a spa; which I accidently discovered hidden to the side of the new block B; unused, dirty and looking like a series of live fish holding tanks. The old block A is to be avoided as is dark, dank and dreary.
The pool and the decking in front of the new block B is extensive and pleasant but if you want any form of services on the terrace you'll have to get of your butt and track down one of the elusive staff.
To describe Phala Beach as an alternative to Phuket - as the hotel blurb does - is an obfuscation of the truth.

Room Tip: If driven to use this hotel always choose the new block and any floor 3 and above to catch the sea b...

A hotel that faces the sea, quiet and relaxing. Room is spacious, bed comfortable. Nice place to stay if you looking for relaxing place away from city. Restaurant and eateries nearby, food quite good. However,it is located away from city and shops, not very convenient if you don't have any transport.

Stayed one night at this hotel ,which is about all I can bear of the place, as it is the lesser expensive option of the 2 in the area. Firstly, if you do not own your own vehicle then you are going to be completely stuck there without transport, no taxis in the vicinity and the only way to go anywhere was using the hotel taxi for which you paid an exhorbitant price. Also, they advertise WIFI when I enquired they wanted 800 bahts to connect for 24 hours.
We stayed in the older wing of the so called "resort" and the building had the feeling and look of abandonment. Everything was grey and dull....with one aged guard holding down the vacant check in counter. With a few grunts and pointing we were directed down the road a bit to the "new" wing of the hotel and finally managed to check in, and then quickly shuffled back down to the old building to our rooms.
The interior was dull and grey....and the ancient air conditioners in the rooms seemed surely to have not been serviced since the late 70's as they barely worked at all, if not to just blow a bit of dust out of the vent every now and then.
The management of this hotel are definitely taking advantage of the fact that you have to use the hotel services if you have business in the area, and i can't imagine why anyone would willingly take a holiday break at this place. There are far more attractive resorts and beaches elsewhere in Thailand as the small beach is OK but nothing special and the water is EXTREMELY polluted anyways.
Avoid this hotel unless you have absolutely no choice to visit the area on business.

Room Tip: Book the New wing if you have to stay in the area and have no other choice....

Having read reviews about the old wing, the new wing, rats etc, I was somewhat skeptical but this being the hotel where parents of a kids school function were staying we had little choice.
There ARE rats in the room ceilings of the old wing. Upon hearing this I insisted to move to the new wing where they wanted to charge extra. After some threats concerning the Thai health authorities, I was moved FOC.
Internet access in the old wing is more than double the price of that in the new wing. When I questioned this there was zero logical answer. Then again, for the four nights that I was there, there was no Internet access in the entire hotel anyway.
They ran out of Singha beer & had to start using the cans out of mini bars. There were only 6 of us drinking!!!!
Whilst my Thai is non existent, there was extremely limited English spoken by the majority of the staff.
The decking area near the pool is very nice but suffers turbulence when anyone walks past as it is built some 10 feet off the ground & obviously is not anchored well enough.
The best thing is the pool. Zero else.
The only thing missing is Basil & The Major asking for his papers, but even that would be an issue as there were zero English papers anyway.
