We spent our forth week in Thailand in this peaceful heaven. Jungle setting, seaview, great staff, good food and very very relaxing. That is what we were looking for. Yes, it is at th end of the road, and not in the town of NaiHarn, but there is a shuttle service to go to the larger beach, and they also rent scooters.
What made our stay a 10 on 10 is the friendliness of the staff, especially the restaurant staff, Ratima (surnamed DjoopDjoop) the manager is witty, funny, and her staff (Nara and others) is always smiling and of great attention.
The older bungalows are... older, but that is where we stayed and we loved it (#108 perfect location, near restaurant, pool, etc.)

Room tip: Bungalow 108, older bungalow but perfect location (not too high in the mountain, and near the pool and the restaurant)

The hotel is located at Ao Sen, at the southern tip of the island, so it is very far from the airport. The distance, however, gives it a secluded and peaceful feel. We stayed in the new wing, which was quite well-maintained, even though it's a bit aged. The design of the room is straightforward and unfussy. The buildings are quite low-key, and blend quite well into the hilly landscape, with lots of large native trees, and fine views of the sea. Food is really unremarkable, unfortunately.

Baan Krating id great if you are looking for a quiet and natural setting to relax in. The complex has many huts. The older huts look outdated, but the "new" ones are kept in OK condition, with great views. The beach is great too, small but tranquil. The staff is super nice, but very few speak english.
The restaurant is hardly worth the visit. They cook mostly thai food, and the quality is nothing special, and concerning drinks the staff does not really seem to know what they are doing (bland and watery). Perhaps thai and chinese like the food, but being westerner I would demand more of especially the breakfast which is the same as the thai dinner menu plus some toast, butter and omelet of low quality. BUT if dont mind a 15 or 20 minute hike, there are good restaurants: "Rock salt" is a part of the luxury Nai Harn hotel and its super quality (same you would get in a luxury hotel in europe), and the beach side Mahasamutr closer to Baan K is great with good ambience too.

Room tip: Avoid the cheaper old huts. I saw one inside and was happy I chose the newer one.

I loved staying here, it is far from everything, above all from the chaotic life of phuket. It is peaceful, surrounded by a wonderful forest, and the bungalows are well equipped but at the same time integrated in the environment (not environmentally disturbing at the sight, as many structure in phuket..). Rooms are cozy and comfortable, with a large bathroom. Good breakfast and good restaurant. The beach is small, but nice and there are a lot of different and colorful fish (not corals though, but I read it is one of the most beautiful place in phuket for snorkeling). Wish I could have stayed longer..
The only negative things are: free wifi available only in the restaurant, a more consistent presence of english speaking staff would be greatly useful, it was difficult to communicate with the reception. Maybe some more shuttle to nai harn beach would be useful as well.

We visited Baan Krating just after New Year and paid 5.500 THB (150 EUR) per night. Too be honest that was not worth it at all.
On the good side: nice clean room (pavilion de luxe with -a bit of- sea view) and friendly staff
Improvement points include: nothing seemed to be cleaned up timely (dirty plates everywhere around 8 PM and dirty pool towels still stacked up in the same bunch where they were left last night in the morning); serving time at dinner very long (45 mins) with restaurant half full; breakfast is good for 3 star but not for 150 EUR/night; very noisy every night until 11 PM from terrible music across the bay.

The hotel is very nice for people who want to be away from everything. It is located at the dead end of a windy tiny access road.

So not negative about the hotel itself, just unhappy about the balance between price and service.
