We took a full day tour with the owner of our hotel, Addplus hotel & spa, as our driver/guide.
He brought us to Rawai Beach & the fish market. He even negotiated better prices for the seafood we bought. Then we went across to Gypsy@Rawai BBQ, it is a restaurant that cooks whatever you buy at the market. You just give them the seafood & they show you some suggestions or you can go with your own ideas. Wow! the food is out of this world. absolutely amazing. So good we went back a second time few days later. Easily the best seafood I have ever tasted & so fresh & so inexpensive. This place Gypsy@Rawai BBQ & the fish market Rocks!! Is a must do.
Can`t wait to go back next year!!

After reading all of the fantastic reviews, my boyfriend and I decided to come here with another couple. Gypsy certainly qualifies for the cliché moniker, "a hidden gem", because that's what it is. Tucked away to the left of Rawai Pier, Gypsy finds itself right beside the Rawai fish market, assuring you receive the freshest seafood for your dinner.

The owner, Indy, is an absolute gentleman and a character to boot. He was a fantastic host from start to finish and kept us laughing. He greeted us, gave us the low down on how things worked, and ushered us to the fish market to help us choose what we would be having that night for dinner. He helped us choose from a variety of delicious looking seafood and even smelled the gills of the fish we were going to buy to make certain it was fresh! Not only that, he got us a pretty sweet bargain. We ended up getting yellow snapper, oysters, crab, and tiger prawns.

After making our selection, we discussed how we wanted things cooked. Indy offered us his recommendations and we were happy to have them! Everything he suggested was delectable. So much so that we came back for more on our last night! I think the overall winners for the night were the prawns, which were grilled, then smothered in a savoury garlic sauce and the yellow snapper, which we had two ways. Fried spicy fillets in a mago-y sauce and we also had fish head soup.

I will admit, it can be a bit pricier than other restaurants in Rawai but honestly, you're paying for quality(not to mention QUANTITY!) and you won't be paying more for a date night than you would back home(wherever that may be).

All in all, it was a lovely , unique experience and I can't wait to return on our next visit. Thanks, Indy!

We found from a local about food on Raway beach and we went there .Its about a street where on the wright side there are fishermens and across restaurants who cook what you buy. It is such a diversity of seafood...unbelievable.
Gipsy is one of 5-6 restaurant who cook your food from 100 tbht/ kg , depends on the fish. They are very well of this , you can even come with your wine with an extra 100 tbht per liter. The food is good cooked . I do not recommand to eat there pastas , expensive and worst I have eaten. We had Gigant shrimps barbecued, calamari on the grill, stuffed octopus and different kinds of fish , in salt or garlique , all good taste.

As we strolled along the fish markets, we decided to try the Gypsy @ Rawai. I had one of the staff members assist me in buying our seafood. We got some clams, calamari, huge prawns and a whole snapper. The kitchen did a really good job of cooking all this up for us. I would definitely recommend coming here for a meal.

We came here on the recommendation of my diving guide, Lexy from Bubba Diving Phuket. She said the food here was great and she wasn't wrong. We hired a scooter for a day and come down here for an early dinner. We had a wonder down the market and bought some fresh prawns and clams from the market and then went across the road to Gypsy for them to cook the food for us. We weren't sure what to choose so the owner gave us some suggestions. We wanted some spicy but some not so he suggest the clams we have spicy and the prawns we have the garlic sauce. His suggestions were spot on, the food they served was fantastic. For all we got it wasn't expensive, not even close to how dear it is in the restaurants in the tourist areas. We will be back, thanks for a lovely meal :-)
