“What a great experience and meal”
Reviewed January 14, 2014

It was a treat to be able to purchase and select a large range of freshly caught fish and seafood (Bugs, prawns, calamari etc) from the market opposite and then have them taken by the restaurant staff and cooked to your liking. The best seafood we have had particularly the steamed lemon fish, what a delicacy.
This restaurant is located towards the end of the unpaved street, they had no hesitation in assisting with the selection of seafood and negotiation of price.
We went there several times and were certainlly not disappointed. The manager and staff the best.
Will be back again later in 2014.

“Expected more”
Reviewed January 13, 2014

I read the reviews here at Tripadvispr and decided to give this place a try. It was not worth it. The restaurant itself is crowded (they try to fit as many tables as possible with just few inches between them), the street is a fish market with a dirty road and poor Thai children begging you for money. And it smells fish, not just one fresh fish but a hundred of all sorts of fish, not all of it being so fresh. The Chief is friendly indeed but he forgets about you once you have taken a sit. The service is bad, we waited for our beers for ten minutes and they just forgot to bring the water we ordered. We had to remind the waitress several times about that.

At Gypsy they serve fish anf Thai dishes. We tried the lobsters, the grouper, some oysters and the squid. They were just average, you could get the same in almost every Thai cafe. The oysters were good though, but you can't spoil them if they are fresh:)

The kids had spaghetti, spring rolls, chiken&corn soup. Nothing fancy, but not bad at all.

To summarize, I would not recommend this restaurant. There are many other places to have lobsters in a more decent environment.

“As fresh as can be”
Reviewed January 11, 2014 via mobile

The place in a sea Gypsy village across a narrow unpaved street from a fish market. The market offers loads of freshly caught fish and seafood and they are in symbiotic relations with a raw of restaurants across. Whatever you buy here can be cooked the way you like in any of them for 50 - 150 baht. Overall, with fresh ingredients and guys at Gypsy who certainly know how to cook them to perfection you can't go wrong. A place that you can't afford to miss.

The Best place on the see food market at Rawai. You can buy fish in the market and go inside for cooking. The Chief is very friendly!!!!

“Something Fishy!”
Reviewed January 10, 2014 via mobile

I don't like fish, but while in Phuket you've just gotta try it! So I set the owner of Gypsy a challenge to recommend and cook something fishy for me that I'd like. He recommended a spicy grouper dish, garlic tiger prawns and some morning glory......it was awesome :-D The grouper went from swimming in a tank to being on a plate in front of me in 10mins, it couldn't be fresher!

The owner is really friendly, speaks great English and really knows his stuff. The food is a little more expensive than other local Thai restaurants, but I guess what you get for the extreme freshness! It's a little out of the way but worth hunting it down :-)

Thank Chirocol
