I used to run along the beach for my boxing training every morning. It was great watching the sun rise here.

If you enjoy the atmosphere of Russian people looking for company then Rawai is what you are looking for. Large russian men parading in speedos, Vodka shots and pink lights bar are pretty much all you will see in Rawai beach. enjoy.

We knew Rawai was not a swimming beach when we booked our 9 night stay and it was exactly as we expected. It is a working beach with small fishing and tourist boats going in and out all day. There is a great choice of restaurants and bars lining the street that runs parallel with the beach. You can get away from the sometimes quite busy road at either end and I would recommend you take a stroll along the track at the south end, past the market and boat repairers, to the line of restaurants with verandas over the beach, very good food at good prices.
Nai Harn and Ya Nui beaches are both excellent swimming beaches and only 5-10 mins drive away, so, stay in Rawai for the restaurants and access to other islands and visit these beaches for swimming.
