“Love the Rawai Beach Area”
Reviewed January 12, 2013

Did you know that Rawai Beach use to be Phuket’s most popular beach for Thai families before the new road over Patong Hill was built. Nowadays it is classed as a working beach for the speed boats and long tails but you can still see many Thai families come here for picnics and swimming.

There are so many great little restaurants in this area, it is a lot quieter than the rest of Phukets beach areas & a great place for families.

The Chocolate Bar & Restaurant is also along the beachfront at Rawai Beach. This area has been a favorite of ours for many years now and has many good little restaurants and bars. It is so nice and relaxing just sitting here watching the long tail boats and Thai families playing or swimming.

There is a good menu with many choices and the prices are so cheap, like a Singha for 60baht, a delicious stuffed Thai omelet 100baht and banana splits for 100baht. The staff are lovely as well. So if you’re in the area we definitely recommend calling into the Chocolate Bar & Restaurant, they are open for breakfast, lunch & dinner.

“Must go to the Sea Gypsy Village”
Reviewed January 7, 2013

Rawai Beach is not really a sunbathing beach. It is a very long beach where people go to board a long boat or speed boat to the off-shore islands. It is also a place to find numerous restaurants stretching along the promenade.

At the far eastern end of Rawai beach is the very interesting Sea Gypsy Village which is worth a visit. There are numerous shell shops to browse around and lots of fish stalls where the fisherman sell their catches of the day. Plenty of choice. After buying your fish just a few steps away across the road are a group of restaurants who will cook it for you at a very reasonable price.

Also check out the friendly coconut seller and get him to prepare a green coconut for you to drink its contents. Very refreshing.

For those who like wood carvings (especially elephants) there is a great shop called Chang Thai Decore on the Wiseat Road junction opposite the German Bakery.

“Best part of the Island”
Reviewed January 6, 2013

I have lived nearby for 2 years already and i believe this part of the island to be one of the best area's. The beach itself is not 'a swimming beach' as there is no real sand to sit on as the sea will come right to the sea wall most parts of the day. However the many restaurants opposite are pretty good value and it is a nice place to sit in the evening and eat some fresh seafood. The only downside is there is some pretty serious subsidence going on as the seawall has not been maintained and parts of the walkway and the odd tree are slipping back into the sea, its a real shame and a black mark against the local authorities for letting it get to such a state. One is left wondering exactly where all that tax money is going, if you get my drift! (no pun intended) ; )
