Lovely national park, and the best thing of all is that we saw elephants in the wild!

As the other reviewers explain, you need to drive to the park then park at Pa dang(?) substation, arriving at 3pm (tours are 3-6pm), pay 200 baht entrance few per person then another 750 baht which is the cost of hiring a guide and a pick up truck (plus driver) who then drive you (only you unleas you came with your own group) through the jungle to various places where you can see elephants in the wild (eating, bathing in lake etc). We also saw deer, wild pigs, loads of colourful butterflies and a huge bee nest. You sit on a bench seat on the back of the pick up truck and are bounced around a fair bit during the drive, but it was great fun. Our guide couldn't speak a word of English, but was very friendly and patient trying to explain to me in simple Thai that I could understand. The elephants were about 50-150 metres away (very close at one place). We saw five in total. It seemed very safe too, as there were armed rangers nearby communicating with each other on walkie talkie and you had to stay in the truck if the elephants were too near.

I would highly recommend this as an afternoon trip, the countryside and view point was also beautiful.

After seeing the horrors of elephants in captivity in Thailand and the many tourists that flock to ride an elephant that has been tortured into passivity....this trip to see elephants in the wild was unbelievable!! We hired the 4X4 truck with driver and wonderful guide and saw over a dozen elephants roaming freely in their own habitat. This should be the ONLY way to experience elephants in Thailand. The guides never interfere with the elephants and always keep their distance.

We went to Hua Hin to explore Kui Buri and the other national parks. We went to the park with Hua Hin adventures as we didn't have our own wheels. The trip was around 2000 baht per person and although it was a bit expensive it was worth every penny! We were picked up in a kind of open top truck which was a nice to travel. Our guide was Aim and her English was flawless. She told us all kinds of things about Thailand on our way to the park which was a great way to see Thailand from a Thai perspective. We hoped to see some elephants, but that we would see them this close and so many was unexpected. It was really amazing. The rangers were respectful towards the elephants and urged people to stand back when getting to close. In sum, it was a really great experience!

We were looking for an outing during our 6 day stay in Hua Hin. We were staying at the Hilton and asked them about a trip, they told us that this was not a good time to see the elephants. We spoke to Tuk tours who sent us to Hua Hin Adventure tours who sold us a trip for 2000 baht each. Just the two of us went and we travelled in on open top truck. On reflection we would have done better to hire a taxi and then a 4x4 there as the journey from Hua Hin is one and a half hours and this would have been more pleasant and faster in an air conditioned car.

This is a fantastic park and I cant believe that more people dont visit from Hua Hin. There were lots of elephants and it was such a treat to see them in the wild. The guides were excellent and very patient.

This is a nice park approximately 1 hour south of Hua Hin. Tourist entry fee bht200/head. The viewing area is at Payang substation (from 3.00pm - 6.00pm). The roads are ok to self drive to, once to Payang you need a 4x4 or hire a ride in Jeep provided bht750 to access viewing areas.
From a serious 'wildlife photography' pov they area too far away..... But for the privilege of being able to see elephant and occasionally the rare wild Gaur it's worth a trip. Not really suitable for children<10...... The pickup ride is a bit rough. An excellent initiative led originally by King Bumibol to preserve a fast dwindling forest area and wildlife conservation. Support them!
