“A curious and quiet palace”

Phra Ram Ratchaniwet
Reviewed August 5, 2012

If you visit Khao Wang in Phetchaburi, you can see this palace. It receives just a fraction of the visitors that Khao Wang does. It was built in a European style by a German architect which gives you some insight into King Rama V's thinking at the time. It has a certain charm and elegance. We were the only visitors at the time and the tranquillity added to the attraction. The estate now belongs to the Thai army. The Palace and the area around it are carefully maintained. It is the same place as Ban Peun which is lsited by trip advisor as a separate attraction.

The palace was designed in European Baroque style exterior with Art Nouveau interior. It was built by the command of King Rama V to modernize or westernize then Siam.
It is very strange to see the palace in its setting, imagine seeing like this here a 100 year ago.
I think it is worth the visit since it is not that far off on the way from Bangkok to Hau-Hin. The exterior is not that massive but the interior is quite impressive, especially the Art Nouveau ceramic tiles and copper motif. There is no furniture left and the place looks weirdly empty. it has been used as a location for many Thai soap opera and movies.
