I stayed in room 103. Room has a fantastic balcony/view. The bathtub in the balcony is just for decorations, not for use!

Room was horrible, at night lizards (small and big) came out from everywhere. When me and friends wanted to sleep in, one of the lizard slip off from the ceiling and landed on our bed! We ran to the lobby and the male receptionist cant even speak english! He just stared at us and smile. We wanted to change room but he told us there is no more room available.

Thank god i had friends in other room, we decided to sleep there. When we asked for blanket and pillow we had to use sign language because he cant understand nuts! We requested two blanket but he had only one and its has terrible blood stain.

Woke up early for breakfast. Breakfast was okay. Nothing much, simple egg and toast bread. We talked with the female receptionist (she was the only reliable one) who understand english. We mentioned regarding our room and we wanted a refund. She say we will talked later.

But upon leaving the hotel, the lady already end her shift. And the one covering her couldnt understand english also! We asked her to throw our rubbish and we need to use google translator. She keep on sayimg 'i finish work, not my job' but the thing is, she was the only one there at the lobby, if it wasnt her, than who should we ask help from?

Be prepared to pack food as hotel has no restaurant and far from shop.

Overall i had an unpleasant stay. Wont come to this hotel ever again. The only satisfied thing is the view. I have wasted my one night stay here, eventhough it cost sgd $40++ only, i could have choosen a better hotel.

We arrived around 10 PM the night staff was there,
a young man with very broken English, I’ve asked him if is possible to get a taxi
and he start shouting at the taxi driver across the road after the man across the road replies,
he answer to me 600THB to Patong beach since I live in Asia and have been traveling to Thailand for a while now,
(plus the taxi ride from the airport was only 700 THB) I knew it was a rip off, so I told him is too expensive,
to what he started once again “talking” to his buddy across the road and laughing very hard while I was just there standing..
I have to remark that this felt like they were definitely talking about me and my wife in Thai and we felt very uncomfortable.

-On the last of our stay we asked one of the staff if we can do late check out, since our flight was at 10 Pm,
Of course I offer to pay for the time extend, she said its ok we can check out late no worries..
We planned our last day to be full of activities since was also my wife’s birthday, we returned after noon and the other staff
told us you need to check out now (!!!!) so after they’ve secured the late check out they tell us we need to leave,
once again I offered to pay for one more night, so we can leave our luggage there and take a shower before go to airport,
but she just said CANNOT she said the staff from the morning did mistake.

So there we were on my wife’s birthday checking out and we have to cancel all activities and just wait till our flight,
It was really a bad impression and it felt that we lost one day.. a very important day.
if we have been told in the morning that late check out was not possible for whatever reason, we would just plan our day different and everything was cool!

I suggest you train your staff in better communication skills and apply some systems in order to achieve a better guest satisfaction,
The rooms and the location are good, staff needs heaps loads of improvements.

Rooms are as shown in website. clean and maintened well.

Negatives: tuk tuk and taxi are reluctant to come here because of the distance and costly too. (not an issue fr me as i rented a bike fr all days)

- the beach is full of small rocks which is a little painful fr little travellers

-Breakfast choice is limited in the hotel itself. it was bread and egg toast with bacons everyday.

Overall, its worth for the money. just requires improvement with hotel services rendered to its customers. ( the reception is only fr you to check in & check out)

We wanted a place that was somewhat close to lively Patong, but with a little more privacy so that we could relax if need be. That's exactly what At Zea Hotel gave us!

It's a 5 minute taxi ride south of Patong Beach. As you can see on the map, it's located on a smaller private beach. The area is very hilly compared to the relatively flat Patong Beach area.

We just rented a scooter while we stayed there for about $8 CAD per day. There's a rental place literally right beside the hotel. I had never ridden one before, so I practiced in the quiet parking area there before heading out to the main road. For those of you that know Thailand, riding a scooter is dangerous for novice drivers! It was quite exhilarating for sure. There isn't much traffic from the hotel down to Patong, so that makes it safer, however the road is quite curvy and hilly. When we went into town we just parked anywhere near the south side of town, then walked wherever we wanted.

As you'll read in many of the reviews here, the view from every room is absolutely stunning. You'll definitely have a "booking.yeah" ("tripadvisor.yeah"??) moment when you get there.

There are very few rooms (I think only 10 or so) at the hotel, so it has a very personal boutique feel. The whole hotel obviously has a nautical them going on. I would say that the pictures shown are what you can expect, however our room mmmmaybe wasn't as nice as shown. Still fine though. Room was clean, bathroom was pretty nice, and the bed was firm (which we like). Like anywhere in Thailand there are smells that arise every once in a while. Nothing that was nauseating, but just a few occasions when you could notice it.

At Zea's portion of the private beach is small, but rarely has people on it. Any beach in Thailand with few people on it is extremely rare! The sand is nice and the water is beautiful. Half of the time though the tide is out so you wouldn't be able to swim, so keep in mind the tide schedule if you're planning a "swim" day. Also, because of the nearby slopes, the beach can be quite shaded, especially in the morning.

You get to know the staff pretty well as there are only about 3-4 employees on site. They were all friendly and helpful. Their English wasn't perfect but anything could be communicated easily with them.

A homemade style breakfast is provided. It's nothing like what you'd expect at a major hotel, with all the spreads and offerings, but it's equally as good. Eggs are made to order, with an assortment of fruit, yogurt, bread, and cereal available. It was a great way to start everyday with a homemade breakfast overlooking Patong Bay. There are a couple hotels right beside At Zea that offer a larger menu for lunch and dinner. Or you can take a taxi/scooter to eat wherever you'd like in Patong.

The hotel is located on a sever waterfront slope, so the stairs from the hotel entrance down to the lower rooms and beach are extremely steep. If you have any physical limitations please consider this as this hotel will not be well suited for you. We didn't mind it because we appreciated the workout, but rest assured, it is quite the workout!

I highly recommend making a trip to Freedom Beach one morning. It's a secluded beach nearby, with stunning views, water colour, and sand. From the entrance gate it is quite a steep hike (stairs) down to the beach, so keep that in mind. It's only a 5 minute drive from the hotel and it's one of the most beautiful beaches we've seen. It does get quite popular as the day progresses so go early to avoid the masses. And it does cost 200 bhat per person. Totally worth it in our books!

All in all, we really enjoyed our stay at At Zea Hotel. If you're looking for a place that is away from the Patong Beach madness, but still lets you partake in it if need be, then At Zea is perfect.

Booked this hotel for a few nights and were iffy about it but when we got to it we realized we had found a gem! away from the main beach and on its own so not many people around other then the 3 hotels beside it. the room was wonderful! we expected to get something every small and very unclean put were very pleasantly surprised when we were taken in.. and considering we booked this on a backpackers budget we were over the moon! we booked our hotels/hostels before we came into the country and were very very sad when we had to leave. we ended up going to a more expensive hotel the next day thinking it would be ten times better and were very disappointed. breakfast was limited but what can you expect when you stay at a hotel that only has about 6 rooms ( which we loved after staying in hostels ) and i can't get enough of how large the balconies were! not only was there so much room on them but we had a swinging hammock and an outdoor tub! (relaxing time at its finest! and a great way to watch off the salt)

over all...
rooms were clean
food was wonderful!
drinks on the beach were perfect and the bartender always added a bit more if asked ;)
staff as really helpful even with the language barrier
beach was nice
far enough away from the noise... and the smell of the main beach but still not a far drive (about $10 Canadian)
amazing view of the ocean / bay when having breakfast on the top floor!
also an amazing view from every room! all of them look out onto the ocean
wonderful balconies

only downside was that the day we came the debit/visa machine wasn't working and we had to pay in cash but i know they can't help that and wasn't really there problem.
we also found that online when booking we picked "shared bathroom" for our room type (remember backpackers here) but were amazed that it was a large king with our own bathroom so that might need to be changed, unless that was just some really good luck!

we would come here time and time again... if it wasn't a 24hour flight from Toronto lol

2 thumbs up and 5 stars!

Room tip: don't be fooled by the area, (away from the main beach) its only a 5 min taxi ride!
