“3 great nights”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 22, 2008

Stayed 3 nights in the Salathai Suite which was the only room available through AtSiam.com when I booked 2 weeks prior to arrival.
Room was very spacious and comfortable although the aircon struggled to cool it down due to it's size.
Bathroom had a shower over the bath and was fine.
Breakfast was a decent buffet, also had dinner in the restaurant which well presented and reasonably priced.
The pool was excellent.
ALL the staff at the hotel were excellent, polite and attentive and are a credit to the establishment.
Keep up the good work.

We heard of the Salathai from a past guest and we are glad we did. I checked the reviews on Trip Advisor and read only good things and I understand why. This hotel is located in the heart of busy Patong but once you enter the courtyard the hustle and bustle ends. We had a deluxe room, which is located on the ground floor so if you don't like stairs try a deluxe. We were about 4 meters from the pool and lounge chairs. The service in the hotel is first rate and because it is a small hotel, it is very personal. The food in the restaurant is very good and not expensive. Breakfast is buffet and you can order eggs and bacon if you wish. It is not a large buffet but we didn't need 20+ things to choose from. There is fruit, cereal and breads with plenty of tea or coffee. Free internet is available if you want to stay in touch with family or access more money to shop with. We had an excellent time here and will most definately stay here again and will be telling all our friends about this little gem. PS because it is a small hotel, most travel agents won't want to book you in here, so do it yourself. If you can access Trip Advisor you can book it yourself and as reception is open 24 hours you will get a response almost immediately, the staff are great. Say Hi to Mo, Moo, Gai and Jimmy.

  • Liked — close to everything, but a haven when inside the courtyard
  • Disliked — dim lighting in bathroom

I stayed at Salathai for 12 nights end august/start september. The hotel is small with around 40 odd rooms.I stayed in a superior room as opposed to a deluxe, the only difference is the deluxe is on the ground floor and has a bathtub. If you get a good deal the superior room is fine. The pool at Salathai is perfect size and very picturesque, surrounded by trees. The hotel is located 10 min walk fron the action of Bangla Road, perfect, away from the madness but still close enough. The highlight of the hotel is the staff, all off them are polite, courteous, and very helpful and always with a smile. The hotel restaurant is excellent for dinner with a great selection of Thai and Western dishes.I would thoroughly recommend a stay at Salathai,i had a great stay....

We stayed fourteen nights at the Salathai in July and thoroughly enjoyed our holiday. The hotel is perfectly situated, a few minutes stroll to the beach, with shops, bars and restaurants nearby. Although on a busy street, Salathai is in a lovely garden setting and is very quiet and relaxing. The pool is nice with plenty of lounges and sunshades. The restaurant, which faces the street, has a good menu and serves both Thai and international dishes. Quality and presentation are good at very reasonable prices. Breakfast was included and was quite adequate. We had a Superior room on the second floor which had a nice balcony overlooking the pool and gardens. Good water pressure and plenty of hot water, the shower was inclined to flood the bathroom but a little inginuity overcame this. The staff are an asset to the hotel, very polite, helpful and friendly. This is a well run establishment and is excellent value for money. We will definitely stay here again on our next visit to Phuket.

We stayed here after moving from the best western in Karon. This place was 1/3 the price of the best western and was far superior!

The room was fantastic, as was the pool. The staff service was good and the restaurant food was well priced, with great food, though service was slow.

The excursions were available for £5 - £10 less at other shops on the street nearby though.

Free PCs / internet was useful - something not available at more expensive hotels elsewhere (we stayed in 10 on our trip including the Hilton in Colombo and nowhere had this!)

  • Liked — Amazing rooms, free PC / internet, great pool, good location near beach
  • Disliked — None - honestly!

Booked this hotel by e-mail for our first trip to Thailand and would definitely recommend it for location, price, tranquility, good food, service and comfort. Had prompt replies to booking enquiries. Driver collected us from the airport with a huge smile and we had a wonderful welcome late at night. Salathai suite was basic but very clean and they put in an extra bed for us so we could sleep 4 ( us + 2 teenagers ) which seemed hard to find in Thailand. Rooms near the road can hear noise some nights till 1am or so. Beds very comfortable, breakfast good, if a little limited. Would have liked a bigger range to suit everyone. Service was excellent at all times and the staff so friendly, we loved the open air restaurant. Food was not cheap but was of an excellent standard ( recommend the coconut chicken at lunchtime ).
Pool was wonderful and the area was kept very clean and the gardens so tranquil for relaxing, no problem getting sunbeds.
Had a wonderful Swedish massage for an hour in the hotel, bliss!
Hotel was just a 2 minute walk to the beach and 10 minutes to Bangla Rd or Jung Ceylon -excellent shopping centre.
Overall deserves a 3+ or 4 star, it's better than a 3 star.
Also recommend:
Fantasea show with gold seats - don't miss it, it's out of this world!
Phi Phi island very beautiful, but stay overnight to fully see it and don't go there in a speedboat in Monsoon season unless you have a very strong stomach at sea!!

Hubby is the one who is very eager to go to Thailand. His colleagues, who are Arabs like him, keep on raving about the beauty of the country so off we go.

We did not want to spend a big chunk of our travel budget on the hotel so after reading the positive reviews on Salathai, we decided to give it a go.

Details of our experience are as follows:

Pick up from the airport to the hotel and back - The hotel charges around 500 baht higher than the average taxi but we never regret requesting for this service. It's wonderful not to worry about finding a ride and know where your hotel is located. We just sat in the car, relaxed and enjoyed the greenery.

Hotel staff - They are all nice and accommodating. Always smiling.

Food and beverage - Loved the fresh juice. The breakfast is not excellent but for the price we paid for the hotel, we cannot complain. The only thing I noticed is that the amount of bacon/sausages that they cook for people staying in superior room is a lot less (2 pcs only) than the others - no idea if people who are staying in the deluxe room were given more or only the same as ours.

Location - Just perfect. It's around 5 mins away from the party scene in Bangla road and you can walk towards Phuket beach in 2 minutes. It's a pretty quiet hotel - you can almost feel that you are detached from the rest of the world.

Pool - Not that big but we enjoyed the dip because there were only few of us in it.

Shower - The water pressure is very strong, you would never want to leave the bathroom again.

Our room at the 3rd floor - We liked the view from the top. This is a big challenge for those who do not like to exercise because you have to take a flight of stairs all the way from the ground floor.

Ants - yes, there are ants in the room. For some reason, they refuse to leave despite my husband's attempts to annihilate them. Apart from the bacon/sausages issue, this is the only thing that we did not like in our 7 day stay at the hotel.

Over all - Highly recommended. Worth giving it a try. Whether you are a budget traveller or someone who wants to experience a luxurious holiday. Who needs to stay in a very fancy resort anyway when you can find everything in Salathai?
