The Kid's Loved It!

3.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed Feb 17, 2013
We moved to the Baan Lamai after the accomodation we were staying in caught fire early morning Boxing Day. We were in total, 6 families staying in approximately 12 rooms.

Let me qualify by saying we lobbed here due to the situation that arose with our first hotel and given the urgency and the number of rooms required over the New Year period did not have much time to do indepth research.

In saying this, our group of families contained lots of teenagers, a couple of younger ones and a few around 18,19 year old mark and they thought this place was Nirvana. It looked fairly new, had good access to everything, a huge pool with swim up bar etc.

Given their age group and the numbers of kids, they could pretty much be trusted (under the watchful eye of the older ones) to go exploring, shopping and to the beach directly across the road during the day. They loved this newly aquired freedom and never stopped telling us it was the best holiday they'd ever had!!

I was a little less convinced. Although staff were nice and tried to be helpful, there never seemed to be enough of them and the hotel was in full construction mode whilst we staying there. The location was noisy, they were obviously having problems being able to service all rooms daily and the rooms although new, were pretty dirty. several of our friends rooms were also having problems with pungent sewrage smells, that staff just didn't seem to be able to
deal with.

I generally like a firm mattress but the beds were like sleeping on rock?

The New Years eve banquet is a right royal stich up as far as value goes and is compulsory for all guests. You don't have to attend but you do have to pay regardless.

I have no doubt some would love this hotel and it would most certainly appeal to a specific demographic. The hotel has potential but needs management to radically review their priorities and endeavour to give guests a little more of the personal touch.

Regardless, we had fun here all the same but this Emu won't be back.

Unfortunately we stayed here after beautiful Krabi. This was certainly a lower budget hotel and you get what you pay for. Three towers surround the pool which makes it quite echoey. We had a pool view room on the fourth floor and it was quite loud. Everything is neat and tidy and relatively clean however the raw sewage smell outside relates to a smell that also comes back up the pipes and stinks out the bathroom.
Leave the bathroom open and ventilate with the balcony door is highly recommended.
We are pretty self sufficient when we travel and are not high maintenance on the staff. Having said that, the staff were untrained and didn't follow up on things which was a tad annoying.
The location is fantastic but if you can, stay at the Holiday Inn.

Good Location since in Patong there are no privet beaches, this one is across the road 3 minute walk from the center of the hotel. good rooms had a few problems when we checked in but they were all fixed, Staff was really helpful. we got an upgrade and the rest of the stay was wonderful. breakfast is good with an ocean view. close by to Bangala Road ( the main street for the night life ) and good places to eat near by. Massages all over and close by to the hotel. Pool is great; serving Mai Tai in a pineapple and coconuts.

No Fitness Center

Room tip: they have a few rooms with no windows ( yes ! ) not too bad I got them in a great deal for this kind of a hotel on booking.com or Agoda.com prices for walkings are a little high for what they offer.

Great location in central Patong. Right across the street from the beach and in the midst of the entertainment district. We had two rooms for a family of 5. Kids loved the swimming pool. Plenty of good restaurants nearby. Large and airy atrium lobby. Breakfast was good.

My issues with the hotel are of the minor irritation sort. The free wifi was slow (but that seems to be the case even in 5 star hotels where you pay for it). The drains in the bathroom were quite slow in both rooms (but otherwise were adequate).

We did not like the concierge service at all. Getting a straight answer on basic questions like where is a good place to snorkle was impossible. The travel desk was nearly useless and simply a place to hand out brochures. And amazingly they will not call a taxi for you - instead they will only use a car service that has a 100% markup on the normal rates with an hour advance notice. We had to lug out our suitcases to the street and find a taxi which at 700 AM to catch our flight was surprising hard.

There are a number of open air restaurants with full band in Patong and Baan Lamai is one of them serving seafood, western food and Thaifood. A full band with 2 female singers. Decor is nice. Chairs are comfortable. Having Thai food last night which is not bad at all and the singing is good.

On the beachfront with many external Restaurants Bars and Shops
We have also stayed at quieter Kamala Beach and Up market very quiet Mai Kao Beach but we found the vibrancy of Patong Beach staying at the Baan Laimai Beach Resort not to be missed.
The upgrade to a quiet room 5th floor at the back entrance to the hotel was very convenient for access to everything outside the hotel
The swimming pool and swimming bar was OK as long as you got a sun bed early
The bedroom was a good size with a large bed
As we were there for only a short stay we didn't have time to use many of the hotel facilities
Although the staff were very helpful and friendly there was some mix up and they didn't arrange for us to be collected from the airport as requested on our booking and left us running around at the airport, using pay phones and trying to find out what was happening. In the end we took the general Shuttle to the hotel
All in all ENJOY
Get the hotel to confirm airport pickup before you leave on your hols

Room tip: High at back of the hotel RHS of the main entrance . I think its the south side for a quite room
