Had a great time, didn't spend much time at resort, breaky great amazing omelette with extra cheese yummmm, had shuttle every half hour which was great, good price food at hotel, fantastic club sandwich. Let down was staff just could not understand English well at all, and staff were not friendly at all. But we had a fantastic time.

definately value for money, with lovely clean rooms and friendly staff. the transport shuttle into town was an added bonus.enjoyed lovely meals at the hotel, while the one-man band played some delightfull music, including some songs in afrikaans. a nice peaceful setting after a busy day in town.

Room Tip: rooms with a sea view tend to be noisy, as can the rooms around the pool area. we had a room without...

Visited this hotel 2 yrs ago and was very impressed, so decided to re-book this september and was very disappointed in the decline of the whole place. I'm sure it has changed hands as rooms were dirty and my friends 17 year old daughter ordered room service and within 30 mins was violently ill so bad that the doctor had to be called, bathroom was not cleaned I got sick from the breakfast for 2 days, so for the last week we just ate vegemite sandwiches and cornflakes. I arranged to speak with the manager who instructed the chef to cook for us, but we were too scared to eat at all there, he also had a lovely bunch of flowers put in our room but not good enough. Some of the staff were very rude, except for Chilada and the Bell Boy who has a tattoo on his neck these 2 were very helpful, but the rest need a course on manners and English lessons. Sorry would not go there again.

Room Tip: Could not recommend any tips

First of all, We sincerely apologise for all inconvenience while staying with us. I have already arranged “the service mind program”. Our hotel has hired a nutritionist to ensure that the food poisoning is not from us. We have many food poisoning reports from our guests who eat lunch on cheap day tour from agents nearby the hotel or eat at street restaurant in Patong. Finally, we wish that we will have a chance to serve all of you again. We do promise to try much as we can to make the your stay 100% enjoyable.

We had 4 nights at the Sunset Beach and, as a couple, and it suited us perfectly.

Our travel agent (Student Flights) booked four nights at the last minute for us when we decided to slot in a visit to see some Aussie friends in Phuket. Sunset Beach was a great choice for us. Not too far from Kamala where they live and fantastic value for money. We booked a deluxe room and were allocated not just a room but more like an apartment with separate living room and kitchen. It was just about as far from reception as you can get but well worth the extra walk for the size of accommodation and it still had a view of the pool from the balcony. It was nicely furnished and we had no problems with housekeeping as reported by others.
Breakfast was a good buffet with enough choices to satisfy but clearly not enough staff to look after the big number of patrons at times. We had to help ourselves to coffee but that was OK.
A gym is essential as the doctors have ordered us to exercise every day and the fitness centre was just right for us. Nice pool too that reminded me of the river thing at Waterworld.

Like others we had some good and some terrible service. Our waiter at lunch was just the best - friendly and sincere but one evening just after some rain we wanted to sit at the outdoor bar to wait for our friends and could not get anyone to find a towel to wipe the seats down. Our request met with a refusal! The worst customer service ever in 10 trips to Thailand.

The location, outside the seedy part of Patong, the views of the ocean and close proximity to massage, travel agent and a few shops plus the frequent shuttle to the centre of the action, meant the hotel had everything we needed. We used Mr Sam, just down the road, for a taxi back to the airport as he quoted 700bht, a hundred cheaper than the hotel but still 200 more than the taxi from the airport. Should have grabbed a card from the taxi driver on the way in.

Enjoyed our first stay here in 2007 so much we decided to revisit. We were given a room in the front block on the 4th floor. It was OK but didn't have much of an outlook, so we asked if we could be moved to a room in one of the rear blocks. That was no problem and in fact, the new room was better than the first, having a shower recess, instead of just the hand held shower in the bath. Hotel fittings, floor tiles, windows, etc, all looked tired though, worn, with stains and marks.

Housekeeping standards varied from day to day, depending on who made up our room. Some days it would be no hand towels, other days the consumables not replaced. Sheets and pillows felt damp the whole time we were there (2 weeks) which may have been an air conditioning issue rather than housekeeping.

Service in the dining room/restaurant was terrible. Ordered drinks didn't arrive and the timing between courses varied from the next course arriving before you had finished your current course to waiting 30 minutes plus for the next course. As mentioned by many others, not a lot of smiles from wait staff, some of whom seemed to preferred to chat to their workmates rather than serve customers. This was even more evident at breakfast when trying to get a cup of coffee/refill. In the end I (and many others) gave up and self served.

Poolside, most of the beach umbrellas were broken and wouldn't open at all or stay locked open so you had to cover up with clothes or a towel if you wanted to stay any length of time and not get sunburnt. Pool bar was staffed intermittently, which was probably a blessing, very few loud drunks disturbing the peace. Some less considerate hotel guests obviously couldn't read, or didn't care about disturbing others, using the pool as late as 1am, when it closed for use at 7pm. Hotel never policed the pool area. I daresay it will take a drowning before they act.

Even the hotel shuttle service declined - a number of times we waited at the Bangla Road pickup point and it never arrived.

The one exception to poor service was reception. Always helpful and a couple of them knew the value of a friendly smile when dealing with guests.

Would we stay at Sunset Beach again? Probably not.

Look, overall it wasn't too bad, there isn't a real happy vibe there. It's almost like nobody really likes there job and it shows! and everything seems an effort for them, from the pool guy to the crew behind the bar.. There are a few other things like mould in the shower and all the deck chairs need a good scrub also the pool could do with a good clean. We all caught a stomach bug and so did alot of people at the hotel , some people said it might have been the ice not sure, or it just could have been bug going around. But.... on the flipside i enjoyed breakfast, the location was good, the sunsets were lovely to watch and it was cheap enough!.. Maybe just slip a few happy pills in to the staffs water and all the hotel flaws might disappear.

I stayed here for 10 nights in March 2012 & it was a great hotel. We had hardy any problems with the rooms which was surprising as there were 21 of us in 8 rooms!! We all had different rooms as some were couples, some families, some friends.. But all rooms were very nice & spacious. Decent size balconies with table & 2 chairs, although the rooms on the top floor had slightly larger balconies. Air conditioners in most room worked fantastically well, other than 1 which didn't seem to work as well as the others. I shared a Deluxe room with 2 other people & we had 3 single beds in our room & they fit quite comfortably. The bathroom was a decent size with a seperate bathtub (that was bigger than mine at home!!) & a large shower as they were corner showers. The only problems we had with our room is that one afternoon our hot water wasn't working. Called the front desk & they sent someone up straight away to fix it, he was very polite & respectful towards us, taking his shoes off & asking if it was ok to come in as opposed to just walking in like some others would. He removed one of the roof panels near the door, fiddled with something then asked if it was alright to go into the bathroom to check that it was working properly! We were slightly disappointed that he left before we could tip him! The other problem we had was only minor, one of the lights in a storage cupboard wouldnt turn off (pressure sensors when you close/open the door) but that was no big deal for us.
Our room was in a fantastic location as we were on the 1st floor & our room was the last one, then they had the stairs, then more rooms.. The stairs went straight down the pool which was awesome for us as we were in there everyday. The pool area itself was amazing & we had some great times in there, & we made great use of the swim up bar. Nothing better than relaxing in the pool on a hot day & knocking back a strawberry daiquiri!! The spa was above the pool & surrounded by beautiful frangipani trees, it also had a waterfall flowing over from the spa to the pool.
There was a full buffet breakfast included in our room rate & i thought it was a great spread, they had the usual bacon & eggs but then mixed it up a bit & had baked beans, hash browns, sausages, bread, danishes, croissants, fruit juices, yoghurt, watermelon & pineapple... And they're just the things that i noticed!! I'm quite a fussy eater & i ate a large brekkie everyday, but it wasn't just the breakfast, they had great meals on the restaurant menu as well. The chicken basket was a favourite, as were the 'pineapples' that they had at the bar ;)

The reception staff couldn't speak very good english which made things a little bit hard at times.
You get complimentary bottle of water per person everyday. The hotel is a few minutes from patong so the have a free shuttle service that ran every hour while we stayed there, although they had previously told us it was every half hour! We just jumped in a tuk tuk most days as it wasn't that far & we could fit 10 of us in, only worked out to like $1 each round trip!

I'm going back in August next year & am planning to stay here again. Great value for money & we enjoyed the quieter location.

Room Tip: Junior Suite - worth the extra $ as you have a lounge room, dining table for if u order room service...
