“MOCHIC RESESIDENCE PATONG”
Reviewed January 10, 2014

My wife and 2 nos. boys aged 13 and 10 years originally booked to stay at "The Haven Lagoon Condominium, Patong for 9 nos. days over Christmas 2013.
When we arrived at "The Haven Lagoon Condominium" they had over booked with no vacancies. They then redirected us to the other side of the road to "Mochic Residence" who were told offered identical accommodation at no extra cost.
The "Mochic Residence" was a comfortable flat with a living room leading to 2 nos. bedrooms. The 3 nos. A.Cs. were quiet and efficient, the beds were comfortable. There was a flat screen television with several English speaking channels including BBC World Service. The flat had 3 nos. bathrooms with efficient showers and plenty of hot water. The flat was equipped with free Wi-Fi, 24-7 which faded at times but was usable.
The kitchenette was the weak link situated in the living room which included a kettle, a toaster, microwave, and 2 ring hob. The sink was only fed by cold water. There were only metal pans so there was no facility to cook using the microwave. There were no knives included but upon request we were supplied with them. We only had breakfast in the flat so if anyone is planning to be solely self catering this flat would not be suitable.
The other negative side of this flat is it adjacent to a busy main road and the noise of the traffic continued all night.
When we arrived the management asked for a return of key deposit of 2,000.00BHT (£40.00) We refused as it was not part of our original agreement. Upon leaving they tried to blame us for breaking a bedside light for which we were not responsible. If we had paid the key deposit we doubt whether we would have received our deposit back. We believe this practice is common in Thailand in order to make extra money.
On a positive note the staff were helpful and when we requested additional coat hangers, knives and beach towels they were supplied.
On a general note we wanted to hire scooters to travel around but when we tried to hire we found out that the hirers do not do not supply insurance. Instead they ask their clients to sign that they will be responsible for 50,000.00 BHT ( £1,000.00) in case of accident or theft. We found this unacceptable as the only parking is in the street and we were apprehensive of our responsibility to third party if we had an accident.
We then tried to hire a car. The hired cars are covered by insurance but the hirer insists that he holds our passports during the hire period & would not accept a copy. We are told that this is a way to try to extort extra payment when the car is returned by blaming the hirer of causing damage to the car that had already occurred prior to the hire. This situation is very difficult to argue when the hirer holds your passport & will not give it back until payment is agreed. There is also the issue of the security of the passport while in the hirer's possession. Finally we opted for taxis which were no more expensive than hiring after a price negotiation but less convenient than using our own transport.

I stayed 10 nights at the Mochic Residence Hotel and cant really complain...

A 30 minute walk to Bangla Road and Patong beach may seem a bit far but I hired a motorbike/Scooter right from the hotel and turned it into a 4 minute ride. Alternatively you can get a bike taxi or Tuk Tuk for 100 Baht. IF THEY TRY TO CHARGE YOU MORE THEY ARE RIPPING YOU OFF.

Pros
-Air conditioner works great
-Rooms are clean as new
-24 hour convenience store
-Awesome attentive staff (Even though cleaners were a lil eager to clean my room daily)
-Great Flat screen TVS
-Steaming hot showers
-Great little food spots in the area (I reccoment friends guesthouse restaurant to the right on main road

Cons
- Far from main area of Bangla road & beach if on foot
-Internet was in and out every 15 minutes or so on some days for periods of the day.

I recommend this place and would most likely stay again!

My review is actually on Mochic Residence of Sirirat Road. It is excellent and new with a nice clean bedroom and really good bathrooms. The only staff member we saw seemed rushed off her feet and didn't really help us much apart from giving us our room key. We were even planning on staying an extra night but she was too busy with customers so we just went next door and stayed there.

It's a bit away from the main streets of Patong Beach but there is everything you need on your walk to the beach. Good bars, good restrauants, good coffee and free wifi available everywhere.

Loved it!
