We are super excited to stay in Ella Bed. It just 2 mins walk to the beach and 5 mins walk to the bars. Restaurants and massage shops are everywhere! The rooms are very stylish and comfy. Though it is a bit embarrassed without toilet door and a bit noisy at night, it is still a great room to stay!
I am strongly recommend their All Day Breakfast! Really delicious!

Room Tip: Room without balcony are quieter and deluxe room have toilet door!

This is a great little place right on the doorstep off all the action. The main beach and best bars are all just a 2 min walk. The rooms are cool, a little bit different which really adds to the experience. You can't stay here and moan about the noise, you are right on the back doors of the bars. There are fireworks going off throughout the night. It's a very lively place, the staff are great, the rooms very cool and a good price. Def recommend it!

We were excited to stay in the modern styled hotel and were not disappointed with the room itself. Its cement decor is quite different and quite lovely. We had room one on the first floor and it had a large balcony which was also great.
For us, positives include decor which is lovely, the staff are friendly and the room was kept clean. There was a great bath too. The location is perfect.

There were quite a few relative negatives in our opinion however such as
A rock hard bed, staff did try to add a layer to soften this, but it was unsuccessful.
There is no door between the bedroom and bathroom- this wasnt as bad as I thought it would be but it is not ideal.
The stairs to the room are quite steep so any injuries might make this difficult.
It is quite noisy with music from nearby establishments going on into the night, however despite this, we found we slept easily and well.
Unfortunately the breakfast was not at all to our taste, the cooked breakfast was stone cold for a start. Staff were friendly however and keen to try and rectify the situation with the microwave.

Overall we had an enjoyable stay and would likely stay again despite some of the listed draw-backs

Room Tip: Room one had a nice balcony

Hi,
Thanks for your review.
Yes beds are generally a lot harder in Thailand, sorry you felt uncomfortable.
As for the design and layout of the rooms, well we are adding a footnote to all our booking and related sites to let folks know, and ask them to look at the pics for an idea.

Sorry breakfast was cold. We have been short staffed this January.
Thanks again.

A fun stay at Ella Bed; a fabulous contemporary reinvention of the B&B in Patong.

The team behind Ella have done a terrific job and seem to have put their heart and soul into every small detail of the place.

Starting I guess with the extremely comfortable bed. The rooms have a highly agreeable bare urban industrial chic where nothing is superfluous. You get the feeling a lot of thought has gone into every fixture and fitting - or lack of fixture or fitting.

Certainly there's nothing minimalist about the service which was the very essence of warm and hospitable. A truly great bunch of people who really pulled out all stops to make my stay enjoyable.

The breakfast part of the B&B equation was an excellent all day à la carte menu. A refreshing change from the tired, barely edible bain-marie offerings that I usually sleep through at hotels. Having a bit of a sweet tooth my favorite was the baked apple pancake.

Coffee was very good as were the cocktails. I ate there practically every day lunch or dinner. A relaxing environment with the food a big improvement on the tourist driven mediocrity outside.

In fact, while I really liked Ella, I didn't find the rest of Patong at all interesting. Like the many tailors shops dotted around the place, Patong seems to be peddling something from a different era.

It is a central location in Phuket. The hotel made some recommendations I really liked - Catch Beach Club on Surin beach and the fantastic Tablespoon near Phuket Town which offered an amazing selection of beers from all over the place and some nice New Zealand wines.

Ella might tempt me back to Phuket. I just hope the baked apple pancake is still on the breakfast menu...

Hello,

Thanks for taking the time to review.
Glad you liked what we're trying to do here. Yes Patong has it's pluses and minuses, but the good news it's is coming into 2014 slowly but surely.

thanks for the pics too, you've got quite an eye :)

Love the decor! Love the food! Love the staff, Pui is an absolute darling! I want to take her home! A very welcoming and charming boutique hotel! Phuket is crazy, I found it hard to leave the hotel and a blessed relief to get back to. Their breakfast is served to guests anytime of the day that they choose! What a unique and special concept. This hotel really caters to the individual! I really did feel special staying here. The coffees from their speciality coffee shop ROCK!!! The music in their reception/coffee shop area is of the same flavour as the hotel. Chilled out loungey vibe... it definately beats the thais preference for headbanging raver music. Its truly one of the nicest places iv ever stayed in! Beautiful Incense wafting up the cool staircase after walking through an assault of odours on the street was simply divine! I really cant say enough about how much I love it. Its a modern, chic hotel with bags of personality. I LOVED IT!!!!!!!!!!!!

We were looking for something other than the large chain/resort type hotels and Ella had such excellent reviews, we decided to book for our two week stay. We loved it so much that after the first week we asked if we could extend our stay for a further week! We are very tall people and the large room size, spacious bathroom with large tub and minimilist open plan design suited us perfectly. The room contained everything we needed including complimentary toiletries in generous sizes that were actually nice, an unexpected touch. I had no problem with WIFI connectivity or AC. The bed was a bit firm (speaking to other travellers this seems quite common in most hotels) but large and the linen supplied was luxurious and always beautifully clean. The stairs are narrow and steep and there are no ground floor rooms, so it would not suit anyone with walking/mobility issues or small children. The location is perfect, tucked down a side street you are not bothered by traffic or excessive noise but still very close to the beach, Bangla Road, Jungceylon shops and numerous restaurants and bars. The food (and drinks) served in the bistro downstairs were excellent. We were keen to try nearby eateries but we ate many meals at Ella and were never disappointed. The teriyaki duck and pork belly dishes were our favourites. Also the all day breakfast is fabulous, it means you can sleep late and never miss breakfast, which is included in the room rate. The best thing about this hotel by far is the service from the friendly staff. The owners are hands on and the staff are always smiling and helpful. After staying three weeks we were sad to leave and will definitely stay again when we return to Phuket.

Room Tip: Of the two luxe rooms, Room 1 has a balcony but no doors to bathroom. Room 2 has doors between room...
