“Great place to stay”
Reviewed August 13, 2013

We loved our stay at Phil Boutique Hotel, we actually extended it by a few days. The room is large, the location is absolutely great as it is near the beach, Bangla road and a bunch of restaurants and shopping.

When going back to Patong, we will most definitely stay there.

So, yes, the location is perfect, and was the reason I chose this property in the first place (the great TA reviews also helped, of course). I stayed for 2 nights. Phil's is literally 5 minutes away from Jungceylon, and that's if you walk slowly. At the shopping center you can find all kinds of dining and entertainment options, beauty and massage parlors, and a nice, big Big C. The fresh market is pretty much just across the road from the hotel. Bangla Road is also right there, almost at your doorstep! The beach is maybe 10 minutes away on foot. I was pleasantly surprised by how quiet the room was, given such a central location!

However, it was only quiet on the outside... The walls might be somewhat too thin for a hotel, located so dangerously close to Bangla Road: all kinds of funky noises can be heard from the neighboring rooms, not very family-friendly noises...

Otherwise, the room was perfectly fine. Small, as expected, but clean, though beginning to look tired. It smelled unpleasantly of beer when I first came in, but the air-con took care of the smell quickly enough. The bed was good, but the pillows – rather too high and too hard. There was used soap in the otherwise clean bathroom. Lots of nice touches in the room: beach towels, a kettle, a hairdryer and a large flat-screen TV (mine was missing the remote). The only thing I really didn't like about the room was how dark it was: the bright Phuket light had no chance, given the proximity of the next building to my room's terrace. I'm sure the hotel has brighter rooms to offer, if that's a concern for you.

The reception staff and the owners are very friendly and pleasant people. They create great, welcoming atmosphere at the hotel. Overall, Phil's is great value for money, and a good base to explore Patong. I would recommend the hotel to solo travelers or groups of friends, to younger people, but not to families with small children – could be awkward for the parents :).

Dear LED,

Thank you so much for writing such a nice review, both on Tripadvisor and booking.com. And also thank you so much for choosing our hotel for your stay in Patong.

First thing first, we deeply apologize for the used soap which was left in your bathroom upon your check-in as well as for the missing remote control. This is totally unacceptable for us and absolutely not on par with our usual standards. The room maid has been notified about it. Once again please accept both hers and ours apologies. We however appreciate the fact that despite those problems you noted that both the room and bathroom were clean.

We are very surprised by your comment about our “thin walls”. We opened this hotel last October, and so far nobody has never ever complained about noise coming from next door rooms. According to your review it seems your neighbors had A LOT of fun. We are sorry for this inconvenience which we truly think doesn’t happen that often. You should have called our front desk staff who would have then contacted your noisy neighbors.

Our rooms are located either on the street side or on the back side of our building, facing another building. Some people like street facing rooms and other people like the other ones which are quieter. When a guest doesn’t like his room, the best thing to do is to tell either us or our front desk staff. We will always try our best to meet our guests’ expectations and give them another room whenever it is possible.

We are very happy to know that you like our location and room amenities. And we also are very happy you mentioned the warm welcoming atmosphere of our hotel and its good value. The front desk staff has been notified of your nice comment about them and wish to thank you for that.

We once again wish to thank you for this nice review and do hope we will have the pleasure of welcoming you again. We also hope that your friend who was to see a doctor in Bangkok has recovered and is now getting well.

Kind regards

Philippe, Philippe and the staff

Only getting around to writing this now. we stayed here in late jan 2013 during our 8 week trip around asia. I have to say this hotel is perfect, in a good location, really clean and i must mention the cleaning lady is very nice! Modern and the decor in the rooms is very good! Its a new hotel and i think its a bit of a hidden gem, the owners are friendly and very helpful after a little mix up with our laundry they sorted it out straight away.
If you are looking for a clean, comfy, friendly and good value place to stay this is it!
Thank you for a lovely few days

Dear elle d,

Thank you so much for taking the time to write such a "fantastic" review such a long time after your stay. Did you miss us ? :) Above all, thank you so much for choosing our hotel while in Patong.

Laundry in Thailand is an institution such as the singing pubs in Ireland or the camembert in France. :) There is more than often something to sort out no matter the laundry company you are working with. We guess it is part of the travel experience ... ;)

We have shared your review with the staff. They are all very grateful about your kind words, especially the cleaning lady.

Once again thank you very much for staying with us and for sharing your experience with the other Tripadvisor travellers.

We are looking forward to welcoming you again should you decide to come back to Patong.

Kind regards

1) my room was cleaned everyday
2) good location
3) value for money
4) good and friendly staff and ofcourse the owners too, they even did an extra mile to instruct best places and tours to do while in Phuket.
5) booked my transport to the airport with no hassle

2 things that caught my attention:
1) shower sometimes change its temperature to super hot without touching the faucet.
2) i am not comfortable with leaving my room key but for my 4 days stay my things are kept safe. There was a CCTV on every floors outside the doors so it will be fine.

Would highly recommend this hotel...

Thanks to all the staff and to both Phillipe for the service. Looking forward to my next visit in the future.

Dear Prynzjao

Thank you so much for such a nice review and also for choosing our hotel for your stay in Patong.

We are sorry about the problem you had with the shower and unfortunately this is something which is beyond our control. We have the same problem at home, we had the same problem in the house we were before and we had the same problem in the guesthouse we had before. We think it is part of the charm of Amazing Thailand. To be quite honest though we must confess it did sometimes happen in Paris too.

We are happy you mention the keys which are to be left at front desk so that we can expalin the reasons why to both you and all the Tripadvisor readers.

There are actually several reasons:

1- if we keep it for you, you won't lose it

2- If someone is calling you from overseas we check if your key is here or not, and don't transfer the call to your room if you are out. It will save your family and friends some money on international calls. :)

3- And last but not least, for safety and security reasons. During the day people come and go, there are different shifts for the staff, therefore we don't always know who is in and who is out. In case of an emergency, we will save precious seconds not trying to evacuate an empty room. We did the same in the guesthouse we had before. When we had a tsunami alert in April 2012, it was a good thing for us to know who was here so that we can go and tell them to evacuate. And as we and the staff also had to evacuate, we were happy to be able to do it rather quickly without having to check all the hotel rooms.

It is very nice of you to mention the fact we instructed you about the best places and tours in Phuket. We like to share with our guests what we like about this wonderful island and what is worth visiting or not. Sometimes people are here for a short time, therefore we try to help them get the best of what is to be seen and done.

The staff are very appreciative of your nice comment about them and wish to thank you. We think we should soon stop to share those reviews with them as they might ask for a salary raise :) On a more serious note they are actually very proud and happy of the nice comments our guests write about them.

Once again we thank you very much for this review, and are looking forward to welcoming you once again in the future. :)

Best regards

Philippe, Philippe and the staff.

Dear tablet1967

Thank you for taking the time to write such a nice positive review about our hotel, and above all thank you so much for choosing the Phil Boutique Hotel for your stay in Patong.

You actually gave us a hard “brainstorming” job after we read your review. You don’t give many personal details on your Tripadvisor’s profile, and your review, even though straight to the point, doesn’t give many details about you either.

In June we were pretty full, so it was not that easy for us to track you down and know who we have to thank and answer to. Anyway, we are assuming that 1967 is your birth date, and we also know that you are a couple. Therefore, we (and the staff) are 99.99 % positive that you are this nice couple coming from a country with a lot of windmills, tulips and famous cheese. :) Did we pass the test ? :)

Once again thank you so much for your very nice comment and we do hope we will have the pleasure of welcoming you again.

Best regards

Philippe, Philippe and the friendly staff :)

I chose the hotel because it location. It is located in the central part of Patong beach and in only in few steps from the major attractions there. Regardless of the nosy neiborhood my room was quite.
Second reason was presence a balconies in the hotel. But my balcony was on front in view of a neiborh hotel, so I couldn't take pleasure of the view, but it accomplished its function - dry my diver's wet suit.
And about staff, of cause. The guy were friendly. They didn't disturb me after all night walking on the Bangla road :)

Dear Sergey68,

Thank you so much for taking the time to write such a nice comment and for choosing our hotel for your stay in Patong.

After reading your review over and over, I have a question for you: did you actually dive in Bangla road ? :)

We are sorry to know you would have liked a room facing the street rather than one on the back of the building. I have just checked our planning and found out it wouldn't have been possible to move you to another room as we were fully booked during your stay. Otherwise, whenever it is possible we are more than happy to comply with our guests' preferences and requirements in order to make their stay with us as enjoyable as possible. Some pleople like the street facing rooms and some people don't.

The staff are very appreciative of your nice comment about them. They are trained to be as quiet and silent as possible in order not to disturb or wake up our divers or ....... night owls :)

Once again thank you very much for your very nice and friendly review. We hope we will have the pleasure of welcoming you again should you come back to Patong. We will then do our very best to give you a street facing room :)

Best regards
