“The perpect place to hideaway!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 15, 2013

I stayed 4days with my mom.
The arrangement(like a maze) of the resort it makes me hideaway.
If you wanna relax and hideaway from everything, it can be the perpect place to you with reasonable price.
All staffs are soooo kind and nice.

I wanna stay again!

Stayed in this resort for 6 nights and enjoyed it. The place is absolutely beautiful, has nice views and the room I had (I had a jacuzzi suite) simply was the best room i ever had in Thailand.

The hotel is very new, probably 6 months or so, and unfortunately it shows several times in an annoying way: The staff make an unorganized impression, running around with seemingly no clear direction and giving an unorganized impression;

The first example is the 0 that you can dial from your room to book shuttles, laundry pick-ups etc. Half of the time i didn't get an answer and had to redial up to 5 times, getting me really frustrated.

Second example is the check in and check out that both took an abnormal amount of time. In most hotels i visit (app. 80 annually) this procedure takes 2-3 minutes. In Thailand it takes a bit more time often but Avista definitely broke the record and kept me busy for almost an hour in total which is unacceptable and ridiculous. During the check out the guy at the desk turned to some other customers while he was working on my payment with my creditcard in his hands. He got so occupied with it that he forgot about me, having me wait for another few minutes. Although I am sure the guy had good intentions helping the other customer, this was something unacceptable to me.

The third example was the shuttle service to and from Patong (Jung Ceylon). In order to have a seat on this shuttle the hotel recommended to reserve seats and so I did every time. On one occasion I showed up at the Jung Ceylon center and the shuttle driver refused me because my name was not on the list. It resulted in a ride in the wet on a motorbike taxi that took me 200 baht. Back in the hotel my name was on the list of the reception worker but he or she simply forgot to write my name on the driver's list. I got back soaking wet and frustrated once again.

Referring to the 3rd example, the shuttle service: this has been mentioned by many other vistors already. The hotel is too far from Patong to walk and there for the hotel offers this free service. However, the shuttle doesn't go very often and it makes you feel captured sometimes. I would have preferred to be able to jump in a tuk tuk any time of the day and pay a small amount for it. The hotel could make arrangements or have their own tuk tuks available.

Breakfast was ok with various choices of fruit and bread. The quality of the food was not different from other hotels I have stayed in Thailand. Especially bread and coffee were of poor quality and should improve.

Last point of criticism is the evaluation list that the hotel asked me to fill in. The choices I had were either "excellent", "very good" or "average". Who designed that list?!? What about "met expectations", "good" or "below average"?
When i filled in "average" for the check out procedure, the guy at the desk asked me, gasped in amazement, if there was a problem(..) and I told him there actually was. He frowned, wrote something behind my comment (in Thai) and put the form aside. For some of the staff it seemed unbearable or hard to understand that even a high luxury hotel has to improve at points.

To summarize my stay: the hotel is definitely worth staying. It offers great rooms, nice pools, an often friendly staff (not all!) and an overall indulging feeling. Guests should be aware of drawbacks such as the inefficient staff (at the desk) and the isolated location that is sometimes disturbing.

The cleaning staff deserves a big compliment: the room was in pristine condition all the time and the cleaning staff were always very correct and super friendly!

Room Tip: I had the Jacuzzi suite and definitely liked it.

Dear Larzz,

Greetings from Avista Hideaway Resort & Spa.

Many thanks for your recent feedback, it is always crucial for us to listen to guest feedback to ensure we provide the best possible service we can, we do think we have a truly unique property and we are glad you enjoyed the room and facilities.

Regarding your comments I would like to answer as follows.

We do realise that we are still a very new property and we conduct regular training sessions for all staff, we also participate in an internship program and have a number of new trainees every 6 months however we do try to ensure they all reach a high level of service as quickly as possible.

For the "0" number on the phone to contact reception we do apologise if you had to wait for a long time to be answered. We do have some busy periods during the day where the reception is handling large numbers of arrivals and check outs which does mean the phone goes unanswered for longer periods. We are introducing a Guest Service Center which will handle all internal calls in the future.

Regarding the check in and out procedure we do feel that the time taken for your experience was within our targeted time. After reviewing the CCTV and logs it appears that it was 12 minutes for the process. In city hotels the Check in and Out can be 2-3 minutes however we are a Resort and prefer not to rush guests during this experience but rather let them enjoy the surroundings. On arrival in the lobby you have breathtaking views over the mountain and ocean and then we serve welcome fruits and drinks as well as cold towels and garlands. All of this is designed to make you feel relaxed and part of the holiday experience. If guests do want an express check in / out then we do also offer this.

The shuttle service is something that we are working on to improve as soon as possible. We have purchased 2 new 30 seater buses as well as our regular shuttle bus and in future this should eliminate all waiting and overcrowding. At present if the shuttles are full we do organise private cars at no additional expense.

We do promote our Resort as an alternative to staying in the heart of Patong, our location is truly unique as we are on the mountain surrounded by Jungle and overlooking Patong, however the journey to the center only takes 2-3 minutes. We run the free shuttle service every hour and if Tuk Tuks are required there is a local taxi stand right out the front of the Hotel entrance with cars available at any time for an additional cost.

We do try to offer the best choice of food at breakfast and have a wide range of options to suit all tastes. Bread is baked daily on the premises and the coffee is brewed fresh by the cup rather than using large coffee dispensers. I will certainly make sure we review the quality to ensure it is the best possible.

Lastly regarding the comment card we have designed a very simple card for guests to complete as we do realise people may not want to spend too much time when leaving. We have included the most common choices however we do have a large section on the card for Guests to leave all their feedback should the tick boxes not have the choice they require.

We do appreciate all your comments and despite some of the issues are glad you enjoyed your stay with us. We do hope you return to see the improvements.

Warm Regards

If you want peace and quiet, serenity, style and elegance then this is "the resort" especially for honeymooners.
The resort is only 9 months old and with quite a few new staff being trained so service was still teething considering this resort projects a 6 star service.
The endless pool was beautiful, jacuzzi suite room was elegantly inspired by modern Indian decor.
The boys were amazing taking us to and from reception in the buggy as Avista resides high up on a hill surrounded by greenery. Transport was very convenient as they provided a shuttle bus service every 1.5 hrs to and from Junceylon shopping centre and Paradise Beach daily. If we missed the shuttle back to the hotel, it was not a worry as it was only 200 baht to get back.
The restaurant was also designed beautifully with Taj Mahal influence including a large breakfast variety, good tea, coffee eggs, endless range of fruit, fresh juice, fresh eggs, honey and a various choice of freshly baked cakes and high tea cup cakes. Freshly baked biscuits were baked daily that were delivered to your room every evening which I thought was lovely yes sometimes inconvenient after a long day when you get disturbed at 9.30pm for 2 small biscuits.
The resort spa is amazing but very expensive especially for Phuket.
Other than that a great experience, and great value if you get the 50 percent off deal.

This was our second trip to Phuket, previously staying in the at Outrigger in Laguna. We stayed at Avista Hideaway Jul-Aug 13 for 10 days before heading to Bangkok. The resort was part of a package via MyHoliday.com.au and we chose this based on the strengths of prior reviews for the resort. The location is in the hills above Patong with some decent views over the Andaman Sea, as such you avoid the loud noise and rowdy crowd element although, easy access (5-10 mins) is available by free shuttle and pick up. Another shuttle provides free drop off and pick up to Paradise Beach.
As it is only opened circa Dec 12 the photos reflect actual reality of what it looks like. There are 3 decent pools, the Gym has good facilities, however 1 of the 3 restaurants (Sizzle) is not yet open, nor is the internet café or convenience shop. As such recommend you top up with snack food, etc. before arrival or get items from Patong.
We ate in all available restaurants and the food was good quality, breakfast is buffet style and a very large selection of food was available to suit all nationalities and appetites.
Some of the staff struggle with English however, the service is very good and attentive.
We holidayed over our wedding anniversary and on arrival there was a cake a bottle of champagne in the room, a nice touch.
The negatives (considered minor) were the excess noise from the local frogs (similar to big Toads) that came down from the forest during the rain, noting our room was on the corner of the property and directly opposite the forest. The air conditioning was a little noisy and sometimes had to be turned off at night, and the plus in the bathroom did not accommodate the hair dryer, which meant you had to dry your hair in the hall.
The shower was huge with both a hand held shower and rain head, with excellent pressure and never ending hot water. The bed was comfortable and wide selection of mattresses and pillows are available.
Would definitely look to stay here again if returning to Phuket.

Room Tip: The Leila rooms have access to a pool restricted to Adults however, stay away from corner rooms that...

It's a perfect hideaway from the hussels of Patong, but it's convenient enough to get the things you need. Just a 5 min car ride, you are right back at the center of Patong. The hotel provides free shuttle back and forth patong a few times a day.
It's especially good for couples. Serene, relaxing and quiet. The pool is clean and never crowded.

We stayed here twice in our July trip to Thailand - a week at the beginning and three days at the end before flying home. We had left our last few nights open prior to traveling, but booked them at the Avista before we left the first week, as we enjoyed being there so much.

We don't have enough good things to say; we won't hesitate to stay here again. It looks exactly like the photos on the website, unlike many other hotels. It's only 7 months old, so hopefully they keep it well maintained in the future!

Where to start - the location was perfect; quiet and set away from Patong, yet close enough via free shuttle to go if you really need to. Service was great, there is plenty of staff who are attentive, friendly and very quick. Anything we needed or that needed attention was taken care of or rectified very quickly. The grounds are hilly, but the buggies they offer really aren't necessary as it's not THAT big. The gym is good, the breakfast and restaurant is great. They offer a free shuttle to Paradise Beach, which is one of our favourite spots in Phuket.

We stayed in a Club room and also a Buena Vista room and both were great. The hotel is modern, a bit spartan, and they are still adding touches like greenery around the place. We loved the pools on the couple of days we chose to stay at the hotel. There's great attention to detail with things like insect repellant and scales in bathrooms (if you really want to find out how much weight you're putting on on your holiday!). Mosquitoes are an issue, but they are working to reduce them around the property. They even sent a cake and champagne to our room when we came back the second time (for a belated birthday celebration).

We loved this place; we've been around Phuket quite a bit and we'll never stay any place else after staying here. We did stay in low season, and understand that the prices go up significantly in high season!

Room Tip: Most of the rooms are fairly similar and there probably isn't a bad room to be had. The Club ro...

Greetings from Avista Hideaway Resort & Spa.

Many thanks for leaving such positive feedback and it is nice to know you decided to return to us at the end of your trip.

As you mentioned the property is such a nice place we do try to ensure we keep it as highly maintained as possible. We are lucky to have such a good engineering and housekeeping team and they really work hard to keep the place looking good and operating properly.

We are constantly adding new decoration to many areas and as the property gets older the character is really starting to show. The gardens are now fully grown and the surroundings are flourishing well.

We have shared your comments with all the team and we do hope to see you back with us again soon.

My husband and my 2 children (ages 7 girl & 9 boy) stayed here for 4 nights last week. It was not long enough! Overall we had been in thailand for 2 1/2 weeks. We stayed at the JW Marriott and also the Merlin Beach Resort. But Avista was the best by far!!!! Fantastic room with direct pool access. Stunning facilities. Games room with Pool table and tv. Kids club room looked good, but my kids didnt want to go. They would rather swim in the pool. May I suggest a movie night so that the adults can enjoy their dinner in peace. Despite the amazing facilities, the food is outstanding. Chicken Satay and Vietnamese Spring Rolls (WOW) and Pizzas for the kids. The drinks were the best we had tasted on the island. And breakfast where you can choose your ingredients and the chef will cook it for you in a wok!!! Wow, what service!!!! Seriously this is the first time I have written a review ever!! But I felt impelled just to show my appreciation and how much we loved this place. Love love love!!

Avista Hideaway we will be back!!!!! From the Mackenzie family!

Room Tip: Pool access for families.

Greetings from Avista Hideaway Resort & Spa.

It was pleasure having you and your family stay with us and we are delighted you all enjoyed your stay. It is always nice to receive such positive feedback especially when you have stayed at some of the other local Resorts and are able to offer a comparison.

Our free Movie nights are very popular with Guests and each movie comes with complimentary popcorn and soft drinks so this definitely gives mum and dad time to escape for an hour or so. We are glad you managed to use this service.

Chef Tim is glad you enjoyed his food, he takes a lot of pride in what he prepares so its nice to know the quality and selection is appreciated.

We are so glad your first review was of our Resort and it was very kind of you to take the time to share your experience.

We do hope to see you all again soon and will make sure we have lots more to keep the children happy.
