we have been staying at the patong merlin for 15 years and have never found a problem with the staff, sometimes the reception staff can be a bit standoffish but that doesnt matter, breakfast staff have always been wonderful and they remember you year after year even if you havent been for a while, great location, great pools and gardens, have tried other hotels but cant beat the pools at the merlin, we will back again in October and cant wait, see the same people every year and they wouldnt stay anywhere else either, looking forward to seeing the new wing.

My husband and I stayed with friends at this hotel for five days. The check in staff at reception were quite rude and not at all helpful. The breakfast staff were worse! There was a group of five of us (2 were on their honeymoon) and we wanted to sit together out in the open area but with no tables big enough, the staff refused to allow us to push tables together, yelling, pointing and grunting at tables inside or in the dark covered area. We ended up sitting at separate tables. This happened every single day (you'd think they would have done something after day 1). We did raise the issue of his staff's rude attitude with the manager of the breakfast area. The porters hanging around the front entrance were also unhelpful and rude.

The hotel itself was a relatively nice place to stay but for us the main attraction for Thailand is the friendly helpful Thai people. This was not the case here.

With one exception - the housekeeping staff were delightful and really friendly and helpful - in fact they could not do enough. The front of house staff could learn a lot from them!

Would I stay there again - probably not. We will find somewhere to stay where we won't be insulted. This hotel needs to do something about the attitudle of its staff.

We arrived after a delayed flight to a refreshing cold towel and welcome drink! Check in was quick and we were shown to our pool view room, overlooking the main pool! The hotel is amazing, there are 4 swimming pools including one swim up bar! The pool staff are very friendly and provide great service. Everything at the hotel (massages, drinks etc. ) is priced slightly higher than what you can pay for down the beach, but still quite cheap. Our room was wonderful, very clean and spacious. House keepers made sure the room was kept clean and we had no trouble with anything going missing. Our room was directly above the lobby bar where they have a band playing every night, but in saying that we could not hear a thing!

The massages in the Merlin Spa are to die for!! Very relaxing!

Across from the main entrance you find the OTOP Markets and a 7/11 with very cheap water and snacks (instead of paying for minibar, you can buy the same items for about 1/3 of the price!)
And a short walk through the resort you find yourself at the beach and shopping on the beach front! The hotel is a short walk from Bangla Road - the nightlife street in patong.

Overall a fantastic holiday and I would definitely chose to stay at the Patong Merlin again!!!

Great hotel in a great location with very friendly housekeeping staff BUT the reception and restaurant/breakfast room staff were the rudest, unfriendliest and most unhelpful I have ever encountered in over 15 years of extensive travel through Asia. The disputes over our seating arrangements at breakfast each morning and the unwillingness of the reception staff to assist us with queries and requests took the shine off an otherwise wonderful holiday. This attitude might be acceptable in a street market but certainly not in a resort style hotel. A serious change in attitude would be required by the staff for me to return to this hotel.

This was our 2nd visit to the Patong Merlin and after talking to friends who have stayed in several other hotels/resorts we realise this hotel is fantastic. If you treat the staff with respect, endeavour to say a few words in Thai and smile they will be friendly back and get to know you and your likes. I witnessed some guests who couldn't even offer a thank you when served. I guess it is these sort of people who complain about everything. Wonderful location, on the flat opposite the beach and so close to all facilities. Beautiful gardens, lovely pools (especially the new one). Great breakfast. Our air conditioning was a little too warm. We reported it to reception and it was fixed immediately - cool, lovely. We were in the main block and it was so quiet I began to think we were the only ones staying there.
