I have stayed at this hotel twice once in 06 and again in august 08! Every year a big group of 20-40 family members go. We have already booked to go back august 09! so can not wait that long, but gotta get in quick as for this hotel gets booked fast!
The rooms are a good size, we had 3 single beds and there was still plenty of room to walk around even with all of our junk on the floor! Felt sorry for the cleaning lady, we did try our best to clean a little bit before they came! The bathroom was a good size nice and big. Had a lovely pool view room. This time we were located on the bottom floor room 5105, when i first found out we were on the bottom i was a little upset as i wanted to be up high like the previous year. But bottom floor was the best! We have asked for bottom floor, for our next stay. The whole family was all located in the same area of the hotel which was good, got to jump over to their balconys and annoy them :) The buffet breakfast was yum yum! All staff were very kind. Even made friends with two, unfortunatly one has left now and has become a taxi/tuk tuk driver who we will getting to take us around next time.
They have interconnecting room which is good, my aunty had that room last time as she had two children.
It is in a great location. right on the beach, you walk out of the hotel and your on the beach, surrounded by markets.
It is a great hotel for the teenagers and for the ones who like to party as it is not far from bangla road.
I would recommend this hotel too all types of people.

TOP HOTEL! we spent eight nights at the Patong Merlin in late November 08, and apart from the flight distruptions from the Bangkok protests our holiday was very enjoyable.. we would have happily stayed longer if need be. The Hotels location is perfect with markets, a 7-11, a Pharmacy and laundry service right across the road. We had a standard fourth floor room which was as good as any 4 star we have stayed at around the world. The hotel has three large pools all in beautiful gardens and maintained to perfection. The buffet breakfast was also as good as any we have encounted on our travels with indoor and outdoor dining. The hotel staff were helpful and very polite as most Thai's are. This hotel was a delight to stay at and we will definately stay again. One tip... with the dollar at a low we did find Phuket not as cheap as you'd expect but the plentiful restaraunts even the good ones along the beach are quite reasonable so well worth checking out a new one every night! Thai food YUM!

I left from perth to phuket on the 19th of november. We had booked at the patong merlin once again, the hotel my family and i have stayed at for the past 6 years. once i got to the patong merlin, we had a warm welcoming from all the staff, they had remembered all our faces and welcomed the new friends we had brought along.

Always once you get to the hotel you are welcomed with a delcious drink , you get a cold towel to refresh with aswell. The staff promtly check you into your room. Our bags were in our room when we got to them.

As we went in the high season we were surprised that there were not many tourist in phuket. This is believed to be because of the economic crisis. Its great because there were alot of aussies still too.

As usual i would sit at the pool everyday trying for that tan i always got in phuket. I slowly achieved it with the weather been very overcast for my stay except for a few sunny days. The food around the pool is outstanding, for lunch you could order a wide range of food. I recommend you try the springrolls, satay sticks, and ham and cheese toasties. The pizzas are also fantastic.

As always i found the staff very attentive always saying hello, goodbye and starting a conversation with you. The hotel is also great because the beach is situated directly across from you, with one walk across the road, There i was greated every mornig with the smiles of my masage lady i have been going to for 3 years sisi and my mothers noi.

This hotel is also close to the big1 which is a super market, where you can get your daily snacks, water and beauty products. You have the O top shopping centre also across the road from the hotel aswell, i did some great shopping there and found it easier to bargain for clothing there.

I am already missing this hotel and the island of phuket greatly, im planning next years stay already hoping to go between march- july or if not christmas next year. I hear the weather is very good in both those areas of the year.

i highly recommend this hotel to anyone going to phuket, this holiday would not be the same without staying at this remarkable hotel .

thankyou for a great holiday once again!

Chantal

I loved this resort, it felt like home was sad to leave and cant wait to go back. We love great hotels, and this one was a little old and run down in places and was not the most superb or flashy place, but that gave it charm and a homely feel. The rooms i thought were great and nice bathroom and balconies overlooking the pool were good. We fitted myself, hubby, and two kids on it a cot quite comfortably in a room.
The pools were fabulous, but i wont lie there was a little mould but it was not gross or off putting, one warning though some of the pool tile were a little slippery on entering.
the breakfast was good, woke up looking forward to it, great selection.
so close to beach and markets every thing is in walking distance.
the location is faultless and tuk tuk were not overly expensive to get any where. very much a kid friendly resort, mine loved it so much, say it i was the best place we stayed all holidays, and we did stay at some more up market resorts. but just had a great vibe.

Hotel was fully booked when I tried to get a booking on the Internet, but hotel came back at the last minute to confirm availability. Staff helpful. Rooms and facilities have all you need. Well worth the money. Be sure you are booking the Patong Merlin, cos a few miles away is the Patong Merlin Beach Hotel, and that requires a 5 km taxi ride to get into Patong itself.

Free A La-Carte breakfasts were very good, plenty of choice. We did eat in at the restaurant at night a few times, but eating out is recommended for the huge variety available, some with live music acts.

Swimming pools (3) were really good. Lot of people using them but they are so big it really does not matter.

Easy walking access to the town area, only a few minutes from the restaurants, cafes, bars and girly nightclubs. Bangla Road has the real interesting shows. You really dont need to use the Tuc-Tucs, everywhere is only a few minutes walk away. If you want to eat out cheap try the places on the side street beside the Subway sandwich.

Beach is on other side of the road, Thai law says all beaches are free public access. Hobie 16 catamarans can be rented from a private individual, very cheap (3 were available) but the owner is not there every day so it pays to make pre-arrangements with him.

Pick-up at hotel for boat trips to the islands, very highly recommended outings, especially Siam Phuket Sea Canoe outing. We had a great day out, flat calm sea, great food on the boat, side trips on sea canoes - and the live act entertainment by the boat crew on the way back had us in stiches.

Suggest you log onto Google Earth and view Patong and the Merlin hotel by satellite photos.

I have paid a LOT more money elsewhere for a lot less than the Patong Merlin gives you. Stayed a week - will definetly use them again.

We had a very good time at the Patong Merlin...its in a great location beautiful gardens and pools. Basic but clean rooms (hard beds - but ask for a mattress cover). Its a little full of Ozzies so if you want a "different" expereince dont stay here. Overall good for starters and shopping trippers. Same same ...but good!

I don't think I have any criticism of this hotel. A great location - right across from the beach, walking distance to Bangla Road, great shopping, nightlife and restaurants. The grounds were immaculate. Three pools to choose from, a gym, two internet cafes and a beauty spa. Buffet breakfast was fantastic, wide variety of foods to suit most taste buds. The staff were always friendly and warm, even the ladies who cleaned our room every day would smile and say good morning. The room was spacious and clean.
