I have just come back from staying here for 15 nights. This hotel was great. A really good atmosphere, clean, huge resort, friendly staff, great value for money. Location is fantastic, best of both worlds having access to the main street as well as the back street. Close to shopping centre, O Top markets.

Housekeeping are great. They came and cleaned the room every morning. Rooms are quite nice. Decent. We did have a problem with the bad shower pressure, but we told housekeeping who sent someone quickly and they fixed it. It was heaps better after that, normal pressure.

Breakfast buffet was great although they were missing vegemite (hehe) Would be nice if they learn not to overcook bacon too. But no big deal, lots of food to choose from.

We had pool view rooms which was awesome. The 3 huge pools was the best feature. Even the pool service was good. Nice cocktails and food also.

If you are after a great value hotel with good friendly atmosphere, lots of aussie's, and close to all shops, then this is the place for you. I will definately come back to this hotel.

We (4 adults and 2 children) stayed at Patong Merlin from 19 to 25 May 2008 before moving to the brilliant KhaoLak Merlin Resort.

It was not our first time in Phuket but our first at Patong Merlin Hotel.

THE GOOD
The hotel is in a great location within walking distance to the beach (across the road); to Jungceylon Shopping Centre (about 10 minutes); to the OTOP markets (across the road from Lobby entrance) etc.
It has 3 fantastic pools and pool areas with plenty of lounge chairs and shade.
The breakfasts are excellent with a huge choice of hot and cold selections as well as "the omlette man" (as my kids called him).
The staff were fantastic and all spoke reasonably good English.
The pre-booked Hotel pick-up from Phuket International Airport was reliable and complete with a safe driver, as was the pre-booked transfer to their sister property Khao Lak Merlin Resort.
The non-pool view rooms we stayed in (3301 and 3303) were in a quiet section of the Hotel and were clean and adequate and housed 2 adults and 1 child reasonably well, although with not enough room for luggage. The balconies looked onto the Burasari and under construction Marriott Hotels.

THE NOT SO GOOD
The hotel is in desperate need of a refurbishment/renovation as it is looking old and tired in comparison to its neighbours. Apparently the section above the Lobby has been renovated but we weren't lucky enough to be accommodated there.
Building #4 is currently closed for complete renovations.
The Lobby is dark and unwelcoming and had a rat running around it during the Elvis Show on Tuesday night (very hilarious).
The shower in our room 3303 didn't work very well, it just dribbled and was not attended to despite the management being told about it.
On our last night the rain poured into our room and onto the fold out bed, from the light fitting in the ceiling!
The hotel caters to lots of Aussie tourists who think that it's OK to walk around Hotel's restaurants in bare feet, skimpy attire and click their fingers at the Thai staff.

We only stayed here because of the fantastic accommodation deal which combined free nights at their sister resort in Khao Lak.

In future we would probably pay a bit extra and stay elsewhere like the Holiday Inn, Phuket Graceland or the Merlin Beach Resort.

We had a great time at this resort, I travelled with my 10 month old son and his grandparents.

We had adjoining rooms which was lucky as every so often my room wouldn't open due to the condensation on the door lock.

The rooms were simple but very clean. Our rooms were on the second floor (non pool view) and just far enough away from the beach end to be extremely quiet which was great. I think if I went there again I would definately ask for a room in the same location as apparently the other rooms overlooking the pool got quite noisy at times.

The staff were excellent, very friendly one of the housekeeping staff even offered to babysit my little boy for me!

There was one restaurant I would recommend and it is Sabi Sabi down a small alleyway on the beach side of the hotel, great cheap food and good service.

The beach was okay but a bit frentic, we kept getting told to get out of the water so the paragliding boat could go past, so if you are going to go to the beach make sure you get a deck chair past the paragliding outfit!! You also do have to hire the beach seats which is about 80bht per person per day. If you do go down the beach you are still fair game for the hawkers though!

Breakfast at the hotel was nice, great fresh fruit and a normal array of hot food etc.

If you go down at happy hour which is buy one get one free either order the same drink or make sure you want two as mum and I went down and ordered a Long Island Ice Tea and a Yha ya, we got two of each drink which was a bit of a laugh but we drank them all the same as the Elvis impersonator was singing when we were in the bar which was great entertainment!

The only thing I did not like were the hard beds and pillows, although this just made me go out and get a massage!

I have stayed at the Patong Merlin twice now, and both times have had a truely wonderful holiday....

Firstly i would like to say that the staff at this hotel are very friendly and very welcoming, on both times i can not complain about any of them... It was actually really nice that the second year we returned here a couple of the wait staff in the restaurants and breakfast areas actually remembered us... makes you feel like more than just another guest..

The Location i think is also very good, it is with in walking distance to shops, markets and lots of good restaurants... also across the road from the beach...

I have to say that also the buffet breakfast is fantastic, lots of variety and always kept fresh and topped up...
We only ate dinner at the hotel once which was on steak night... you have to try this, its really good.. we only wished that we tried the hotel restaurant earlier during our stay as we would have eaten there more often...

As far as the rooms go, they are pretty basic, though some of them are more modern than others... i must say though they are kept very clean, housekeeping do a great job.. definately go for a pool view room as it is nice to sit on the balcony and look at the gorgeous surroundings of the hotel grounds..

So all in all we really liked this hotel, when we return to phuket we will be trying somewhere else, but this has been a very hard decision as we do enjoy staying at the patong merlin...
