“Great Place To Stay”
Reviewed October 10, 2008

We have just returned from a 10 night stay at the Merlin Beach Resort. We had a fantastic time and the resort was beautiful.
We had a deluxe room and it was huge, a king size bed (though a little hard for my liking), fantastic housekeeping and room service. We used the safe the entire stay and were not charged.

We have read reviews about the resort being full of kids and loud, fat, drunk and obnoxious aussie bogans - well they should pull their heads in and get over themselves. No problems at all.

The resort was completely full when we were there though you would never know it. Always a seat at brekky, always room around the pool and believe me there is plenty of room for everyone.

The new Thai restaurant is fabulous and cost us 3600THB ($145-) for 5 people including entrees, mains and drinks. So really no more than what we pay at home.

The Little Tiger restaurant on the hill is great and the massage ladies to the right are great. We also ate and You and Me, Sabai Sabai and Pum's Thai where I did a cooking class.

If you miss the shuttle bus you can get the hotel taxi which is 300THB for up to 5 people no matter where you want to stop in Patong otherwise the tuk tuks across the road will charge depending on where you want to stop. 200THB to the pier, 250THB further down and about 300THB to Bangla Rd or Jung Ceylon.

We had a great holiday and Merlin Beach is a fab place to stay, yes a few kms away from Patong but that's the beauty of it. We will definately return.

Stayed at the Merlin for 2 weeks in April 07 for our honeymoon.
It was fantastic, the setting was great, the pools the bar and the rooms were very nice. The pool water is great as it is like swimming around in a warm bath, the sea isn't much different.
The staff were friendly and helpfull.

I would defo recommend this resort for a honeymoon.
Great place and a short cheap tuk tuk ride down to the main Patong area is a big bonus!

Fantastic !!!!!

After being in Dubai for 3 days before we didn't know what to expect from Thailand and the Merlin Beach, but once we arrived there, it was beautiful from the first second!!! The hotel is absolutly lovely and rooms are spacious and clean. The lobby entrance is lovely and relaxing and the grounds of the hotel were really nice. The beach right on your doorstep, however, a little too rocky to swim in, but the sand was pure white.
The staff in the hotel can't do enough for you and we found them all to be very friendly and helpful. Any problems and they are happy to help.

The only thing I would say about the hotel is that it is about 10 mins away from the Patong area and too far to walk so therefore you do need to make use of the free bus service througout the day. There are taxis outside the hotel but don't expect to pay more than 300bHTS for a taxi or tuk tuk!!!

Food in the hotel was lovely but it was a little bit pricy compared to restaurants in Patong, think it was only like this because of the distance and that there was no were else to go. However, we found a lovely little restaurant along the beach and up a hill...cheap prices and delicious food and a lovely place to relax.

One more thing, don't book your trips in the hotel, they are way to over priced, go into Patong and you will pay half the price and get the same trip!!!! A must see is PHI PHI Islands- what an amazing experience!!!! It's breath taking!!!

All in all, we had an amazing holiday here in The merlin beach and we would definatly visit here again as it was a little bit quieter than the neighbouring Patong Merlin Hotel and the business of Patong, and after all the dancing away with the lady boys of Bang la road, you just want a bit of piece and quiet.

Have a great holiday......

You have nothing to worry about if you are staying at the merlin beach resort, it was a fantastic place to stay. We were greeted with icy cold towels to wash our faces and complimentary drink cards which were delicious. The only thing that was a little disappointing was the fact that the girls of our party never got given lei's (flower necklace). Over the next few days we saw arrivees recieving these however its really no big deal.
The rooms were excellent, and even though the smell was musty as soon as you walk in, its gone in 10 mins and i didnt smell it again. Our king size bed was so comfy, not hard at all and pillows just as good. I dont know what some guests are talking about when they say you have to pay for the safe because we didnt have to at all.
We used the free shuttle bus a couple of times, it goes into town at 10am, 11am, 3pm, 4.45pm and 9.30 pm. Mostly we caught the 4.45pm and did some shopping before dinner. Too hot to shop in the day! The shuttle bus also brings you back to the resort however we never caught it. Honestly, i was on holiday and didnt mind paying 250bht to get back every day. Im in Phuket to spend money.
The pools were as good as they look in pictures and i found they weren't too crowded either. In my experience the resort was not overrun by aussies or little children. Sure, there was alot of aussies but i don't know why that would bother people. The thai's working there have very good english, we had no trouble communicating. The buffet breakfast was really good too, all the foods you could want; plenty of choice. The little restaurant up the hill to the left was very good too, but a little crazy at times. I got my laundry done by the ladies on the beach to the left for 100BHT and it was done very professionally and came back smelling lovely :)
You get one complimentry bottle of water per person, re issued every time they clean your room.

All in all it was a great resort to stay at. Next time i would stay in a resort actually in Patong but i dont regret staying at merlin beack at all. it really is worth it, suited to everyone.

We arrived back today after 7 days in resort.

Yes our accommodation was a little mildew smelling but that is the tropics and so we did not complain. We stayed in Block 4 which overlooked the quieter pool area and I will definitely request the rooms with direct access to the pool next time. Loved the variety of pool styles and we were happy to read, swim and eat- rest! I was also disappointed re flowers on bed- maybe our travel agent didn't say we were on honeymoon and I didn't want to mention it after as it would be an after thought.

Breakfast buffet was just fine for us and plenty of fresh fruit and cereals and a wide selection of cooked food. Way too many choices. We found the cafe near the beach a much quieter area for breakfast.

Agree re massage group on right much nicer, better and a free water bottle and fruit at the end.

Yes we pay for safe but at 430B only $16.00 so not too bad for 7 days. Towel deal with card works well.

Food at resort was at times just ordinary although Thai meal was good - be warned mild spice is 10 chillies! ouch! It is so easy to head to town for a variety of meals and also recommend as others have Little Tiger restaurant on top of hill.

Patong- Baulchi Indian Restaurant
Sawatdeehar Rd-Sala Thai Resort Restaurant
Creative Tailors- good service phone ([--]
Must do Fantasy Sea Show.
buy lots of water in Patong- 7 up store opposite bus pick up has cheap water.

We will be back again with a group of friends - wiser for the local knowledge.

We stayed at the Merlin Beach resort for 9 nights in September and cannot recommend it highly enough. After arriving at 1 am we were given cold refreshing towels and were in our room within 10 minutes and shown how everything works. Our safe was free of charge and worked perfectly. The breakfast bar had everything you could possibly want and the omelet station was amazing. The Tri Trang restaurant opened when we were there and we had breakfast ther overlooking the private beach. We had massages from the ladies on the beach (250 baht) to the right of the steps and they were amazing. We also ate at the Tiger restaurant on the hill great food and views and much cheaper than the resort. The staff were great, pools superb. The only downside was the infrequent shuttle bus to town and they need more staff aroungd the pool to take orders for drinks and food.
Drinks at the swimup bar were great!

This was our 5th visit to The Merlin Beach Resort and we loved it as much as the first time. The hotel iteself has a reat location- Its not right in the heart of Patong however it is only a 5 min drive away so much more quiet and away from hustle and bustle. There is a free bus shuttle that takes you to & from Patong or its a 200baht tuk tuk for the times that you don't want to wait for the shuttle.

The rooms are beautifully appointed and extremly clean and comfortable. It's well worth paying a little extra and getting a pool access room which allows you to swim from you room into the goregous pools.

Staff are always friendly an breakfast is INCREDDIBLE ! There is plenty of variety produce is always fresh an full of flavour.

Happy Hour is everynight from 6-8 in the Piano bar and every Tuesday in the pool bar from 4-6. Happy Hour rocks with all drinks 50% off ! Make sure you order an Andeman Breeze, Pina Colada or Merlin Punch !!!!

This resort has its own private beach and to either side of the beach are massage huts owned by the locals which provide excellent massages and a tenth of the price that the resort offers. Make sure you go to the massage place on the right hand side facing the beach and opposite the hilltop cafe. Ask for "Tum" or "Pawl" These girls give the best massage and certainly provide you with friendly and welcoming thai hospitality. If you want your laundry washed and folded beforfe you head home they also provide this service for 70 baht per kilo - Our clothes were returned spotlessly clean and soft and smelt great, they also packed these for us so we could pack them straight in our luggage !!!

For a fantastic cheap Thai dinner head to a restaurant called "Breakpoint" this is in Patong and in the same street as Harrys Diner ( probably 4 restaurants up from Harrys ) Staff are so friendly and the food is sooo increddibly cheap - I'm talking 45 baht for dinner and 14 baht for beer or softdrink ! The restuarant is hidden away and a little difficult to find but it is certainly a little gem and one we return to each night for dinner each time we visit Phuket.

Phuket now has a fabulous shopping centre called "Jungceylon" this is on the road behind Bungla Road! There is a really really goos supermarket called "Carefour" in there which you can buy drinks, juices and snacks for next to nothing. We also purchased a DVD player for 700 baht and used this for the entire time we were away. The hotel hired dvd players at 500 baht per day so it was much cheaper for us to buy one ourselves and give to the locals when we were leaving.

DVD's are 50 baht at the markets - There is a good DVD shop near "mr mac" tailors - This is the opposite end to the McDonalds - the owner will show you the quality before you leave and if you are not happy or change your mind he always exchanges.

Handbags - expect to pay 1500 baht for the good quality Chloe, Jimmy Choo & Burberry, you can pay about 1200 for less quality

This hotel is definately the place to stay when you visit Phuket !
