“Amazing pools”
Reviewed March 24, 2014

I have stayed here twice, and both times it has been wonderful and relaxing.
The hotel rooms are well appointed and are all close to either a lift or stair case.
The buffet breakfast here was one of the best I have had out of all my 6 Thailand stays.
There are 3 restaurants to choose from here and there is always some lovely music being played at night.
The best feature of this place are its acres of pools that all inter-connect. Alot of the rooms on the lower level have access from the balcony too.
The only downfall with this place, is its a good 10 minute took took trip away from Patong however there is a free shuttle bus that is available from the hotel.
I would recommend this hotel for all sorts of holiday but it was quite ideal for couples more than anything.

Room Tip: The standard room is more than sufficient. Quite often you will recieve a free upgrade.

This place is perfect, close enough to the buzz of the town but up the hill and slightly out of it all!!

It's got three pools with plenty of beds. We used the swim up bar which made the holiday more social.

Food is reasonably priced, but all subject to a service charge. It's the drink prices where they get you. But we went to Happy Hour from 6-8pm and 10-11pm which was brill! Staff ok and relatively friendly especially bar staff, but food service was sometimes slow, not from the kitchen. I'd definitely recommend heading up the steps on the beach to eat as the food and service are good and very reasonably priced.

One thing I would say is that if you have a late flight, check out is 12pm and although showers in the poolside toilets, they are boiling and nowhere/no privacy to get changed. This really lets the place down considering its size

This resort is an absolute disgrace.

I have never ever complained about poor service in my entire life, on this occasion I couldn’t let it slip.

We stayed for 7 nights in March.

On arrival, we were told that we did not have wifi and proceeded to charge is an extra $40 AU per person - for 5 days only. I later found out that the other guests who booked at the same time were given free wifi even though they had booked a cheaper room. Quite honestly - we were ripped off but we let it slide. I have never been charged for wifi before, even the cheapest hotels around the wold (even the pubs in town) offer free wifi. This hotel has a value on everything.

The hotel staff are rude, arrogant and do not want to be there.

Getting a drink at the pool bar is almost impossible, they staff turn their back to you and refuse to use initiative.

The staff at the pool bar are nothing short of THIEVES. Early in our trip, we complained to each other that the cocktails did not taste like alcohol. After having our leg pulled, I watched very closely at the bar tender make a cocktail. I ordered two cocktails. The bar tender poured 1 x 15ml shot (A full standard shot is 30ml) into a shot glass, and then poured that 15ml shot between the two glasses!!!! I confronted him and all of the sudden after speaking great english, he could no longer understand me. He then told me he was tired (Nice excuse mate). To me - this is STEALING. We told many of the other guests to watch out for this and the bar staff were busted on many more occasions.

We were still charged for full strength cocktails - what a disgrace.

After refusing to drink the cocktails, we decided to continue drinking the warm Singha beers served buy the useless bar staff.

On the day we checked out, my friend consumed a complimentary bottle of water that was in our room from the day before. When we checked out, the manager demanded we pay 30 baht for the water because that was our check out day! ARE YOU SERIOUS!!!!!! If he drank it the day before would he have been charged???? 30 baht is nothing - but it’s the principle that counts. Especially after we had paid $1725 AU for accommodation and another $700 in the resort over the course of our trip.

Even the pool table in the sports bar isn’t free! For crying out loud!!!!!!!!!

On another occasion we ordered french fries near the pool restaurant which was empty. They took 45 minutes to arrive and were cold. No apology. No care at all.

On checking out we advised the manager of these issues. Quite frankly she didn’t care one bit. No apology at all and she couldn’t get her hands on my credit card quick enough.

I asked for the Senior manager and she just gave me a business card with the generic hotel email on it. They just have no care at all and pick and chose understanding english when they want.

I have never been so disappointed in my life. This is my first negative trip advisor entry.

The location is great and could be amazing but it is far from that.

Do yourself a favour and NEVER EVER EVER GO HERE!!!!!!!!!

Room Tip: Avoid the room near the kids pool - very loud. Actually avoid this place all together its horrible.

We spent 14 days here in February. The weather was perfect.
The rooms were spotless. The service was more than enough.
The price level at the hotel was also above what I had expected.
We had included breakfast and dinner.

The best thing about this place, was the pools, the Bamse Club, the dinners on the lawn with Coco Disco and other entertainers. I must say that Star Tour/TUI made a lot of this trip for us. They had something for the children all day long.

I also loved snorkelig at high tide. Cold coconuts at the beach.

The elephant was at Tri Trang Beach which was hard to reach. But it was also at a wedding at the Merlin. And by the road 1 km from the hotel.

We had a very good time here. Would love to go back.

Room Tip: Room 1300! Perfect.

We spent 7 days at the Merlin Beach Resort in February 2014. There were 3 groups of 2 people all in the Premium Deluxe rooms. We all would happily go back, even just to stay the whole time in and around the resort. The daily clean of the rooms was faultless, in fact all the staff are brilliant. Pool and pool bar are fantastic. My tips - get in early to get the best seats around the pool and do not miss having a meal at the little Thai restaurant on the hill next to the beach (not part of the resort). We will be back

We have just returned from a week's stay here. We had a wonderful time and have no major complaints. We were AI which does mean you get a more limited choice of food and drink but this wasn't a major issue for us. We are wine drinkers but didn't really expect to get good quality wine in Thailand anyway. Breakfast was lovely. Loads of choice, omelettes cooked to order. The hotel grounds were amazing with three pools. I loved the fact that the children's pool was separate! Always managed to get a sunbed either near the pool or on the lawn. Although we were AI we ate at the Little Tiger restaurant a few times so that we could experience some authentic Thai cooking. Definitely recommend going there. Also had some massages on the beach - only used the one on the left. The hotel being just outside Patong meant it was an oasis of calm away from the craziness that is Patong Beach. Would recommend this hotel to couples and families. Loved it.

Have just spent 12 nights at the Merlin Beach. Great hotel- clean , friendly, excellent breakfasts and a choice of 3 pools - general , family and quiet ( some days we were the only ones at this pool)

so why 3 stars?

The hotel has a few things that are frustrating..

Firstly the location is some way out of the town and if you like to visit different restaurants etc then you need to take taxis ( approx £5) each way( take the ones from the stand across the road not the hotel taxis as they charge more). There is a free shuttle bus but it is scheduled to encourage you to stay in the hotel- much to the frustration of many of the guests - management please take note! There is a small restaurant up the hill but it has a limited menu.

The beach is very rocky- not great for swimming and wifi is only available in the lobby area unless you pay- given coffee shop chains now give access to free wifi this seems to be a rip off given the price of the rooms.

Having said all this we would return as the staff were friendly and efficient
