We have been to the Merlin 4 times now and always enjoy the stay, friendly staff, great house keeping etc you know the drill. But Never ever go new years eve!!! Party was over price and included over priced drinks and third rate entertainment that you need to pay big bucks for the privilege of spending the night there. The meal was crap and I have never known the staff to take so long to either take an order for a drink and then longer to bring it back to your table then you needed to pay double for the privilege. Disappointed in this, for this night you are better of going to Patong and partying the night away, even if you do pay for the taxi to get you there and back it would still be cheaper. Very unfortunate that you had to pay for a party that wasn't very good, when we have had brilliant times there before!!

Room Tip: Take the pool room if you can afford to.

Family of 5, 3 kids 8 and 17,17.
Great facilities, great breakfast.
Booked for 4, had an additional last minute guest, no problems.
I believe location is what makes this place a family favourite, away from the noise and wild nightlife but close enough if you want to venture, 8 mins away by a 24h taxi service just across the road.
Everything that you need is within the hotel, laundry service can be done by the family business on the right side of the beachm they offer massage and hair braiding, very friendly, they will show you pictures of the tsunami and will tell you stories, they can recommend you a driver to take you on a city tour for good value, all day price varies depending on what you want to see..the old man "Uncle" can custom made the tour for you..
Food at the hotel is great as it is in Thailand, on the opposite side of the Family business and high in the cliff there is a small restaurant, serving great home style food at great prices, the stairs to get might seem discouraging but the view is fantastic.
When in Patong avoid all the restaurants in Front of the beach, they are way too expensive and their portions are small...walk a couple of blocks away from the beach and you will get better food, portions and service at half the price.
Going back very soon...!

Room Tip: Book online is Ok but confirm your booking by phone and make sure to be very demanding when getting...

This hotel is awesome. 3 fantastic pools, numerous restaurants, bars and sunken pool bar. Its about 5kms up from Patong Beach, just enough to get away from the buzz of Patong. There is a mind-blowing beach across the road from the resort out the front, it's called tri-Trang Beach, you have a little walk to get there but its great, take your camera. Out the back of the hotel up the hill is a great little restaurant with the grandest of views. This place is pretty special and its very big so people arent on top of each other. The staff are helpful and friendly and they do free bus rides twice a day to patong. Recommend this place for sure

Room Tip: be certain which room you want in terms of view....we got what we wanted by dealing with the resort...

Driving to the hotel was an eye opener. We were not sure what to expect after driving through town, the hustle and bustle, the electrical connections, omg. On arriving at our destination we were relieved by the tranquility and wonderful setup of the hotel. We soon settled in and familiarized ourselves with the vibrant night life. We had a wonderful New Years Eve dinner at the hotel where the hotel grounds were transformed into the most picturesque setting with staff buzzing around to make it all come together. The fireworks display was magnificent. All in all we had the time of our lives and have learnt to never judge a book by its cover. Would love to go back someday. Well done, we appreciate the warmth of the people of Phuket / pathong seeing that your New year is only celebrated in April but the effort that is made for the tourists leaves a warmth that is unforgettable. You most definitively do not take tourists for granted and show gratitude so open and honestly. So many other counties can learn from this.

We stayed a week at the Merlin Beach Resort and had a fabulous time. This was our first time in Phuket and we were glad we stayed here as it was nice and quiet away from the hustle and bustle of Patong. We are a family of 4, so we had interconnecting rooms which were spacious and clean. Pool was always clean and never had a problem getting 4 sun lounges. Food at the restaurants was very nice, our favourite was the Thai & Seafood restaurants, a bit more expensive then eating in Patong, but very enjoyable. Just beware of happy hour at the swim up pool bar, keep an eye on all belongings you put up on the bar as my daughter had her phone up there and somehow it just "disappeared", we were the only ones in that area, there were no other guests there, so who knows where it got to????

Arrived around 3am after a long flight, was kindly greeted with a cool towel but it was all downhill from there. We had requested a twin room but were told none were available, which they were far from apologetic about, made us feel like we were an inconvenience for making them put in a little fold out bed, the room smelt dodgy. Breakfast was below par. They obviously weren't handling the full capacity very well, omelette chef had nothing left to put in the omelette.
They said New room would be ready around 11 it still wasn't ready till after 1. they missed our wake-up call which almost made us miss our island tour. Hard to communicate with almost all staff, expect a lot better for the price we paid. Even checking out was made difficult as they made mistakes on my bill that there was nobody there to fix, if it wasn't for the hotel car driving at 150k/hr I would have missed my flight
Definitely will not be recommending this place to anyone,

This place is holiday hell. It is outdated, badly serviced, poorly staffed & perfect for bogans who don't know any better. A travel insider has since told us 'oh yeah, that's where all the end of season football groups go'. You have been warned. We had such a horrible time there it's taken nearly three months to put it in words. The staff are at best indifferent but for the most part straight out rude - especially at the desk. to be fair the only nice people were the women servicing the rooms. It's miles from anything else except for a great big construction site so you either need to wait for ever for a shuttle or book your own taxi. They have a great scam when you check in saying you must meet with your travel advisor the next day to confirm your return trip - this is so all the tour booking agents can force you to book your various bog-standard tours with them. When you ask to confirm your pick up time push the issue or prepare to waste half a day being booked into overpriced tourist-trap trips. If that's your thing then knock yourself out. I'm not sure if it was the leaking raw sewerage, the bad overpriced food, the hoards of bogan Aussies or the rude staff that spoilt our stay at Merlin Beach but we won't ever be going back to find out. If you do go, don't bother going up the cliff to the little tiger either - yes it's cheap but really, really bad food.
