5 days 4 nights of paradise. The only reason it does not deserve an "excellent" rating is due to the dated rooms. Clean, but dated a bit. They are renovating all the rooms this year, so I gather that it will be completed by 2009. And all the complaints about jackhammering --- I believe that some writers were silly enough to mistake the longtail boats' engines passing through the bay as jackhammers. They do sound very simliar, especially with the echoing of the bay.
The spa was amazing -- you cannot beat a private open cabana with moonlit views. Each cabana has a private shower/bath and very attentive staff. Do NOT miss the opportunity to book a service, preferably at night.
We visited the private pier at sunset, indulging in the most lavish fruit plate I have ever seen. Then we ran to the end and jumped into the water, enjoying the sundown on top of the swimming platform and watching the fish swim by.
The food at every restaurant was divine. They could do a bit better during the breakfast buffet but I cant complain too much. We paid $200/ night. Worth every penny.
P.S. do NOT pay to take a taxi into Patong - complete rip off for $10. Just walk. It takes all of 5-10 min.More
