Amari is rated as a 4 star resort but is more like a 3 star resort. The rooms are old and outdated. The shower door in a superior room is right next to the toilet so my tall husband struggled to use the toilet as his knees would hit the shower door. We were booked in for one night and then a further 3 nights at a later date. We however managed to cancel our last 3 nights as we were not happy with the small rooms. The manager did not offer us any upgrade or alternative to the small rooms and was more than happy to cancel our 2 rooms which we found very strange.

The breakfast was not too great as there were plenty of food flies all over the pastries. The sea not equipped for swimming a definite no no. The music from loud Patong can be heard in the rooms.

I would definitely recommend this hotel if I were on a budget however the cost of rooms were particularly high for a hotel that was not 5 star and I was deeply disappointed.

Room Tip: Do not book a superior room if you are tall.

on arrival at 11.30am after a 15 hour flight, despite hotel not full, our room was not ready. We sat in the foyer in 40C heat with no A/C for 3hours. The foyer is in need of a facelift, all the wooden chairs were scuffed and had not been varnished for years, cushions were all stained, some couches had had torn upholstery fabric, not what one expects in a 4 star property.
Our room 2203 was very disappointing, resembled an old motel style room, no atmosphere, tired scuffed furniture, wobbly chairs. Its saving grace was the balcony with spectacular views over Patong Bay.
The bathroom (this is a misnomer) had no bath and no room, sitting on the toilet your knees touch the shower cubicle. The smallest hotel bathroom ever had in 40 years travelling. twice during a 7 night stay after rerturning from a beach at 3.45pm our room had not been made up even though please make up room sign was on from 10am.
For the mobility impaired this property had 100s of steep steps, very limited access for wheelchairs. One would expect a bussiness centre in a 4 star hotel, even though its a resort, that one could use if you had not brought a laptop or mobile phone with internet connectivity with you, but this was not available, and one has to go to an internet cafe in Patong. the closest 1km downhill from hotel.
The hotel has daily shuttle bus to Kata beach leaves at 10am and returns at 3.30pm. Ther day we
used it6n people were advised pick up would be at 2.30pm despite return time printed on ticket stating 3.30pm. The driver did not arrive to collect us and at 3pm phoned hotel who sent a replacement driver 40 minutes later. Very poor service. We complained to guest services on return and they apologised and sent us a fruit basket with apology in it.
Now the good. The hotel is on a hillside with terraced gardens at the quiet south end of Patong. beautiful terraces well maintained with stunning views over Patong Bay. and the sunsets are so soothing, just to sit and take it all in. A dive school is in the hotel and free lessons are given with all the eqipment on wednesdaqys and fridays from 4pm-6pm.
5 Dining choices, Kinaree Thai resteraunt,La Gritta Italian, Rim Thalay whrer an excellent breakfast buffet is served with amazing choices catering to all tastes, and fabulous waier service, but lousycoffee,.The Jetty casual resteraunt is built on a jetty into the bay with stunning views.
Happy hour cocktails 5-7pm and drinks are half price at Rim Talay bar poolside by the beach, and lobby bar. but not at La Gritta bar, strange... Most coctails are $4.50 instead of $9 at happy hour. Exchane rate was $1 U.S. = 29 baht. We stayed for 7 nights.

Room Tip: Try and get a room in the new wings.

We stayed at this hotel for 4 nights as part of our honeymoon trip through Thailand. The lobby is lovely, and the view from pretty much every area of the hotel and every room is beautiful.

The resort is about a 5-10 minute walk (downhill on the way out, uphill on the way back - tough after enough beers!) from one end of the Patong strip. It is just far enough to be quiet and relaxing, yet you can certainly easily hit the town every night if you want. After walking for a few hours around Patong beach, a tuk tuk back to the hotel is only 150-200 baht, depending how close you are.

The prices are what you would expect from a hotel of this calibre. The included breakfast was the best of any hotel we stayed in on our trip. There is just an incredible assortment of choices, like an egg station, breakfast meats, pancakes or french toast, Thai food (that we actually started to enjoy eating in the mornings), fresh fruit, salad bar, cheeses, pastries, various breads for toast, cereal, yogurt, the list goes on.

We ate dinner one evening in the Italian restaurant and it was excellent. The service there and everywhere in the hotel was with a smile and efficient.

The larger pool has a happy hour with half price drinks from 5-7pm every day. The large bottles of beer are on for 105 baht - as good a deal or better as any place in Patong, and the view can't be beat. The pools are both very warm, but there were always plenty of loungers available. We didn't go in the ocean, as the tide and the shoreline makes it difficult.

Being really picky here, the only thing I can think to complain about is the internet. It's free only in the lobby and by the pools. We paid to have it in our room - the original price quoted was about 4500 baht per day, which was more expensive than anywhere else we travelled. When I paused to try to convert this in my head, the front desk clerk immediately changed the price to buy-two-days, get-two-days-free. So there is some flexibility.

There are stairs to get to all of the rooms and to and from the lobby. In some instances, you have to go down a flight of stairs just to be able to reach another set to go up! It's definitely not a hotel for anyone with mobility issues.

All in all, I wouldn't hesitate to stay here again or to recommend it to others.

I loved this hotel and the staff is very friendly. Its location is perfect. U can walk 3 or 5 minutes to get to the town or u can take a tuk tuk (the funny thai taxi) just from the hotel. They helped us a lot for the tours we booked from the reception.

They have an amazing seafood buffet and the rooms are clean but the bathroom a little bit old. They can be renewed. And the rooms are far from the pool. The Spa time we had there was unforgettable....

The hotel is one of the best in the area, hospitality is top notch
because the hotel is on a some sort of mountain it have a great view from the room and from the restaurant it also have a bonus area where you can sit just above the reception where you can get an uncomparable view
the only thing is that you can't easily walk to near by things because of it's previously mentioned location on a mountain
I was renting a bike which made my life much easier and enjoyable

Well..what was supposed to be a relaxing trip over New Year turned into a nightmare. When we arrived the service was very good and they had accommodated our request of a room with a sea view. However the walk to the room took about 10minutes, walking down several steps, past 1 pool, then along past the 2nd one to a nice spacious room, but not what I would consider to be superior. The hotel is, in my opinion far from being a 4 star hotel and I would only rate it as a good 3 star.
We received complimentary tickets to a New Years Eve party with a buffet style dinner. There was a lot of choice and I unwisely opted for seafood..................
4hours later I was violently ill and continued to be so all through the night and early morning. We eventually called a doctor out, who confirmed that I had been poisoned. I spent the next 4 days in bed, leaving my poor fiancé to wander the busy, smelly and dirty streets of Patong on his own. He found this very distressing as was constantly approached by Thai sex workers as they assumed he was a sex tourist.
When I was feeling able to get out of bed, we wanted to change to another hotel in a different area as Patong was loud, busy and not relaxing in the slightest and this hotel was not a 4 star hotel like we requested.
My final observation is that when we came to pay the bill, instead of apologising and giving us some sort of compensation, the reception attempted to charge us for all the water and soft drinks I had consumed as a result of being bed bound from the food poisoning that the hotel had caused me. Unbelievable!!!!!

I would like to start off by sincerely apologising for your recent stay with us. While I'm glad that we were able to accommodate your request for a sea view room, I'm disappointed that it did not meet your expectations.

It is also alarming to read that you felt you became ill because of our dinner party. Even though this is an isolated incident where none of our other guests have reported something similar, it is an issue that we take incredibly seriously.

As guest experiences are central to our operations, I more than happy to discuss your stay further with you. Please feel free to contact me through TripAdvisor's Private Messages at any time.

Kind regards,

Hotel setting is beautifull, very relaxing, the staff are great, always helpfull and very polite. The Spa is a real enjoyment the treatments were wonderfull, they really make you feel special. Could not fault the food in the Restaurants,we were in a lovely deluxe room with lovely view from balcony across the bay,the bed in our room was very comfortable a definite plus. Dissapointed with Patong town itself, grumby and tacky, but you could find decent restaurants and It was only approx 15 min walk from the Hotel. Patong beach is very busy, but the Hotel does run a free bus to a beach about 25mins away which was better if you want the sand. There are boat rides(at a cost) too much smaller, quieter and lovely beaches, the Hotel will supply you with bread to feed the fishes which will swim all round you when you feed them, these boats pick you up from the hotel's small beach, takes about 25mins.
