My husband and I stayed here for 7 nights in May. I am so glad we chose this hotel even though it's not right in the centre of the action (which is a good thing in my opinion!).
On arrival we were upgraded to a Deluxe Room on the 3rd floor overlooking the beach (great views!). Rooms are specious and modern featuring all the necessary amenities.
The hotel is HUGE and features two pools, three restaurants, a gorgeous private jetty and a spa.
Breakfast selection great and is served in an open air restaurant overlooking the water. Most of the hotel is 'open air' and although there are fans can be quite hot until you get to your airconditioned room. We ate room service once (great) and at La Gritta (expensive for Thailand but not Melbourne) and the food was amazing. The seafood chowder beautiful. They have a great wine selection. It's a beautiful place for a special dinner. The bars so happy hour from 5.30 - 6.30 and 9.30 - 10.30 so we took advantage of this. You MUST have a drink on the jetty and watch the sun set. It's a special place.
The pools are large and most days people could try scuba diving for free in the pool, run by the hotel's dive shop (not many people did it.) Shivara Spa offers poolside massages but we didn't utilise the service of the spa. I have family who did though and they said they experienced the most amazing treatments in the hilltop treatment rooms.
Although the hotel is situated on a beach it's not really suitable for swimming (too rocky) but the hotel offers a shuttle service to Kata beach each day (we didn't go but saw Kata beach and it's much nicer to Patong). Patong beach is ok - 10 minute walk, clean water. (We came from Phi Phi Island so nothing could compare to the crystal clear water there!)
It was fun watching all the crabs walk along the beach from our balcony - there were hundreds of them each night.)
It's location is on a hill overlooking Patong. Yes it's a 15 - 20 minute walk to Bangla Rd but along the way there are bars, shops, restaurants so the walk is fine. We mostly took tuk-tuks because of the heat and the cost was 200bht per way (it's one way streets so they have to go all the way around to get back to the hotel).
There are MANY stairs in the hotel and that did annoy me at times but the views and the staff made up for it. Everyone from the gardener to the General Manager said hello as we passed and were helpful in every way.
We walked past Holiday Inn and some of the other more 'central' hotels (HI is only 10 minutes closer to Bangla then were were and along the way) and I am so glad we chose Amari - I don't think any of the other hotels compare to it.
I will definitely stay here again when in Patong.
