“Amari Coral Beach & Captain Mark Review”
Reviewed October 30, 2007

I based my trip on all the helpful reviews from you. Now it's my turn to give back.

Amari Coral Beach: We were torn between the Holiday Inn and the Amari Coral Beach. We are so glad with our decision to stay at the Amari. Although the Holiday Inn looked spectacular from the outside, the hotal is located in the middle of Patong - which can get pretty loud and crazy. And the Holiday Inn is across the street from the ocean - so you will have to go to the busy public beach if you want to be on the beach. The Amari is only a 5 minute walk away from all the hustle and bustle. It's nestled on it's own private beach and you can hear nothing but the ocean & crickets at night. The hotel is paradise. The spa is gorgeous, pools are clean, breakfast is phenomenal, service at bars and restaurants is top notch, each room has a beautiful oceanfront view, and the food (although pricy) is fantastic.

Captain Mark Tour: AWESOME! What a great trip---most likely the highlight of our trip. Instead of standing on a packed boat with 200+ people like the other tours, there were only 10 of us touring for the day. Mark is a fantastic tour guide an dis very knowledgable and well informed about Thai customs and traditions. his crew bought fresh prawns and crab durng our sailing and cooked them up for lunch for us. We went walking through various caves, swam is beautifil lagoons, fed monkeys, and suntanned on the boat. Please do book a tour with Mark...you will not be disappointed. We are so glad we listended to other reviews of him and booked a tour.

Restaurants: based on other reviews, we spent quite a few nights at Sabai Sabai (awesome traditional Thai), Molly Malones, Rico's pizza. Don't bother with Family Mansion...the curry was fairly bland. The food at O-Top markets were all fabulous, especially the Indian.

Shopping: O-Top Markets were great...much cheaper than the stores along Beach Road.

My husband and I have just come back from The AMARI CORAL BEACH RESORT. I thought I'd died and gone to heaven !!! This is the most fabulous Hotel for a 4* there is. It is far enough away from the mad Patong, only a 10 minute walk albeit there is a steep hill, but we felt completely safe in this country, not like England ! You can get tuktuks but they will try and charge you 200 bts [about £3] The hotel has its own private beach and the views are really stunning. We had room 4201, not a bath just a shower but everywhere was so clean . The staff couldn't do enough for you, the hotel is 25 years old, according to the Dutch catering manager, but it doesnt look that old. Its well kept and spotlessly clean. There are 2 pools but we were actually nearer to the quiet pool, and that was better. When it was hot, the staff bought you beautiful cold flannels to cool you down. There is another pool which you can use which goes from shallow for children to deeper, but this pool, suited me better. I can recommend the Italian restuarant, expensive but stunning views over the sea.On the last night with them, they give you a discounted voucher to use at the Italian restaurant
Breakfast was great, every choice possible
There are lovely gardens and the private hotel jetty is well worth walking to [3-5 mins walk] as it has good views too.
There is a spa but I didnt go to it, also massage facilities in the other pool area.
For a few days, my husband had an upset stomache [nothing to do with the hotel], so I had room service which was bought to our room within 10-15 mins beauifully served, and not as expensive as I thought,so I had a few nights having dinner on the balcony. Loved it, facing the sea, waves gently lapping on the beach not 20 feet away from the shoreline !

By the way, our rep. did not tell us that you don't have to pay 700 bts now at the airport . Apparantly, it has been scrapped, so good news.

We arrived at the hotel after travelling for 17 hours but it was well worth the wait. The room we were given was stunning and looked out directly onto the beach, which is either sea or a rocky/sandy small beach depending on the tide. The room was spotless and the facilities were first class, the only downside being that our room did not have a bath, only a shower. the hotel has two pools, one with a small childrens pool with plently of sunloungers availible. There are restaurants which serve snacks and drinks throughout the day, round either pool. The staff could not do enough for you and are so friendly and polite. There is a jetty out to sea from which the views are stunning, especially at sunset. The breakfast is more than adequate with most tastes catered for. We also ate at the Thai and Italian restaurants in the hotel which were fantastic. This hotel is about 5 minutes walk from the very busy patong beach it is ideally situated as they town gets very busy and noisy at night. There are always tuktuks available to take you into town if you don't fancy walking they should charge you about 150 baht. I would recommend this hotel to anyone, it was perfect. Although there are alot of steps without ramps so beware this hotel is not wheelchair friendly.

This is a wonderful hotel. We really enjoyed our stay and have no complaints whatsoever about the room, service food or ambience. The only thing I would like to say is that it is absolutely NOT a hotel to stay at if you have young children. The hotel is on the side of a hill and to be able to get to the breakfast restaurant or pool, or anywhere else in the hotel you have to manage flight after flight of stairs. This was not a problem for us, but it was more than difficult for families with small children. You cannot really use a pram as there are no ramps only flight after flight of stairs. The resort is also at the top of a hill and it is really hard work getting down to the town on foot. For everyone else, a wonderful resort.

This is our second visit to Amari, and we were just as happy this time. Beautiful location, excellent service and food. We had room service one evening and the food arrived very quickly, and was excellent. This hotel would be hard to beat. I recomend the day trip to Phi Phi. Just remember to bargain hard, as there are numerous places which sell these tours (and they all go to the same places). Also check that the 200 BHT park entry fee is included in the price.

I spent 6 nights at the Amari Coral Beach in June, 2007 and had a great time!

Location: The Amari is located on the south end of Patong Beach approximately 5 minutes walk to the start of Patong town. If you are not up for the walk, there are always tuk tuks at the hotel entrance. They are expensive though, approximately 250 baht to the center of town. The location is quiet but still close enough to town.

Facilities: There are two very nice pools, a jetty out into Patong bay and a small beach at high-tide. The pools can get crowded towards mid-day, but this wasn't as much an issue in the off season. The jetty seemed forgotten and very often I was the only one out there. There are some beach loungers as well as a small bar which also offers light food and drinks until sunset. There is also decent snorkeling off of the jetty and it is deep enough to do some lap swimming. There is also a spa on the property, however, it is very expensive.

Food: The Italian restaurant is quite tasty as is the breakfast buffet. The Thai restaurant is also pretty good and has a spectacular view of the bay. The lobby bar area also has amazing views and live (cheesy) music every night. The grill (same area as the breakfast) has good food as well. Overall, I was very satisfied with the dining options at the hotel.

Room: The room I was allocated was a standard room (with the green wall). It was decently sized with the standard amenities. TV, safe, large closet, phone etc. There is no internet access in the room but there is wifi available in the lobby. I found the bed and linens very comfortable. My room was in the first building on the second floor with a large balcony and an incredible view! The room was positioned in a way that you could not see other balconies or rooms. While all of the rooms have a sea view the buildings are tiered up the hill and some on lower floors may see the roof lines of other buildings more than the sea. Overall, I was very pleased with the room.

Service: The restaurant and reception staff were all very accommodating and friendly. The lemon grass tea and cool towels were very refreshing on arrival. I had a late flight out of HKT and was allowed to check-out later in the afternoon which was a pleasant surprise. They also offered shower facilities after I had to leave the room.

Overall, this was a wonderful hotel and I would definitely recommend it when visiting Patong. My only complaint with the hotel is the tour desk, operated by an outside company, was not overly helpful. I ended up making my own arrangements for the same activities they were offering.

Amari Coral Beach Resort is a five star hotel resort high on the rocks on the Southern end of busy Patong location - a great compromise between the mayhem of Patong shops & the bustling nightlife with incredible views of the beaches and grand bays below. The hotel is accessible up a slope via a 10 min walk from Patong - good exercise if you are healthy or after a heavy meal out. Otherwise you can take the resident tuk-tuks cabs although at a fixed rate of 150Baht. This may be expensive in local terms but hey, you on holiday so indulge yourself a little & help the local economy. Bewarned also that once you reach the resort, your rooms may be a further 5 min walk down as all restaurants and rooms are built facing the beautiful bays below. And all rooms come with a viewing balcony as well. Breakfast is included in the rate and the spread is pretty good with Asian and International selection. There is no broadband access in the room so access will be via wireless in the hotel lobby, restaurants & the 2 pool areas. Great if you like working outdoors but inconvenient if you are trying to access internet at night after a day out. In general the hospitality is great and I would recommend this hotel resort to anyone looking for a balance of fun and relaxation during a holiday break in Phuket.
