Weather wasn't great while we were there. Just started to rain once we got on to the jet ski's. The beach isn't dirty and looks decently maintained.

Having arrived at Patong Beach after a 30 minute bus ride from Phukett Town (30 Baht, 55p) we combed a very busy beach for some vacant beds. Ended up next to the paragliding bit and was soon approached by the bed attendant who charged us 400 Baht (£7.40) for 2 including beach towels, and an umbrella.
Very busy with lots of people watching entertainment.
You will not have time to relax as you will be approached by beach hawkers (lucky lucky men) every 30 seconds selling stuff that you will never need in 1000 years. Even the Thai massage "ladies" approach you promising "good" massage.
Patong attracts every walk of life and you just need to go with it. Even at the height of the days heat "ladyboys" will try to entice you into their bars and clubs.
Overweight, elderly men parade themselves with their Thai brides up and down the beach front.
This is a mad mad place to be, but well worth it.
Restaurants are in abundance and difficult to choose from. Most of the restaurants are run by the Indian community, but the food is good and relatively inexpensive.

Sun, Sand and the wander of clear water! We spent a week in a quiet and shaded sun lounge. A lovely little shaded area for some awesome Thai food and watching amazing cocktail drinks being made. What more can you ask for? We will be sure to come back soon!

Ive been to phuket many many times, and have witnessed the decline of patong beach year after year.

if your looking for a busy, noisy hustle and bustle of a small market with food sellers, t shirt sellers, people selling womens clothing, people selling all manner of gifts, ice cream, boat trips, time share jet ski operators asking you constantly if you want to go on a jet ski, same with parasailing. beach then this is probably great for you .. there are bikini clad girls everywhere, groups of young guys, groups of youg women, older people that really shouldnt be wearing thongs at HIS age.. and plenty of decent families holidaying and staying on the beach...

It rarely if ever goes quiet, the entire length of the beach is taken up with sunbeds from one end to the other which is about 2 kilometers..

if your a couple hoping for a nice romantic beach time with your loved ones - forget it here.

thats the bad things out the way ..

the sea is warm and relatively safe, stay within the marked areas and take note of the swimming flags red= no swimming. the sand is excellent white powdery sand.
food is available in abundance from your sunbed, or just a short walk ( about 15 seconds walk ) you can get a wide variety of street food which is inexpensive and filling. if you have had enough of the beach the main bar area is only 1 min away ( bangla road) where you can sit and enjoy a beer.

to sum up..

ITS VERY VERY BUSY. if you like busy ...great ... if not try nai thon beach..... Layan beach bang tao beach these are all quiet safe romantic, and fun beaches something for everyone but not on the scale of patong.... tuk tuk to layan would be about 600 baht, but it is so worth it believe me... nai yang is also a brilliant beach ( all on the north west of the island )

hope this has been helpfull.

Quick and easy on this one:

If you want to smell the sun tan lotion of your neighbors, hear them sonar while the sleep, swim in a dirty water, get offered all types of souvenirs and still pay 200BTH for it... Go! I won't be back!
