“Looks can be deceiving”
Reviewed February 18, 2013

Location wise, is not great if you want something close to the beach. Value for money wise is not great for what you get. Booked a room with a king size bed, however was provided a twin room. Was given the option of a room with a king size bed, however the room had a very bad smell emanating from the drain in the bathroom. The hotel is very close to other hotels and thus you cannot leave the curtains open. Limited parking is available. Good selection of television channels though. Bed is hard and uncomfortable.

Room Tip: Rooms facing the main street would provide more privacy.

The Hotel Arita is a 15- minute walk to the beach. It has a small rooftop pool that is a bit too shallow and has some lounge chairs. It was a good place to read.

The rooms are large with floor to ceiling windows and a balcony with a couple of chairs. It was too hot to sit outside but it was useful to hang my wet bathing suit. The view from the window was of an eatery across the way that blares pop music in the evenings and a local market for the poor that consists of tumble-down shacks. It looked like a slum.

The hotel room included a TV, queen-sized bed, closet with a safe and small refrigerator with two complimentary small bottles of water. The fridge was useful. The bathroom had a shower but no bath. The room was clean and had WiFi access. It deserved its three stars.

A full breakfast was included in the price of my stay which was ample.

The front desk staff when I was there doesn't speak English well. I had my stay pre-booked by a Thai agency so I had nothing difficult to communicate. The service here is rather unenthusiastic.

The hotel has a bar with exorbitantly priced drinks. The bar offers nothing special. It is not pretty nor air-conditioned so I couldn't work out why they thought the drinks were worth more than drinks elsewhere. One would be better off going to a bar with entertainment or 2 for 1 specials elsewhere than drinking here.

If I were going back to this town, I'd try a different hotel to be a little closer to the beach and to find a nicer hotel, but this one was largely adequate.
