We have a special appreciation for the folks at Chiangrai because they let us bring our catch from our fishing trips here, and they do wonderful things with it. We also stop here several times a week even when we haven't been fishing to enjoy the fresh-out-of-the-water live oysters, crab, and other shellfish. If you haven't tried barbecued Thai oysters, you've been missing a real treat. We got a good laugh this last visit because I decided to pick the crab myself, and it picked me first -- I still have a bruise under my index fingernail. The staff was of course mortified until they saw me laughing at my own foolishness. You don't need to worry: just point and they'll take the risk, then expertly prepare your selection. Frosty beers, full selection of Thai dishes, nice folks, you'll like it.
