The Blue Ocean looks better from the outside than what is experienced from within. We booked for a Deluxe but for whatever reason the lady at the Reception wasn't about to give us one! We did eventually get one though. However it appeared to be very hard work for the Clerk. The Bell-boy was very efficient, taking care of our cases and introducing us to our room and its amentiies, which included an empty bar-fridge. Yhe first thing you notice when you enter the room is how spacious it is, the next thing is how shiney the floors are.... until you take your shoes off and walk around and you realise that the floor is not shieny, its damp/wet. We let it go thinking that it had just been cleaned and that we may have contributed to the "wet" when we arrived as it had been raining. The first night was fairly comfortable, but the Air-con had been spitting out water and the floor was soaking. We had breakfast and went back to our room to discover the maid cleaning away. We told her of our experience with the Air-con and pointed out the water. She appeared confused, made a phone call, and we left for the day. When we returned we noted the room spick 'n' span, but the floor was still moist/damp. We advised the Reception staff and requested a "dry" room which we eventually received.
Dinner: Eating at the Resraurant at the Blue Ocean is ok but the menu is very limited, mostly Indian, but very nice and fairly priced, for a hotel.
Breakfast: Staff had to be asked to set tables in readyness by guests. They were more interested with their phones!! Cold eggs, pre-cooked. Bacon and sausages appear to be rationed, in that, you cannot help yourself you have to ask. Ask for more than 2 of either and you get a "free" weird look! But access to all other foods, (ie Asian/Indian), is plentiful and freely available. But be early for breakfast. There are 120 rooms in the hotel, but the Restaurant only can seat 62 people, with 50% (approx) of the seats in the smoking area..
Just metres away, down the road is the Hard Rock Cafe, and you can hear the music, (or noise if you don't like Rock) in your room. So ask for a Rear room, it will be quieter.
The Blue Ocean is an average hotel with nothing spectacular about it except, perhaps the Pools There are 2 of them, they look nice from your balcony, or passage window depending of your room type. The hotel is located within walking distance (10-15 mins) to Jungceylon, Bangla Road and the Beach.
