“How things have changed at the Pearl.”
Reviewed April 6, 2012 via mobile

7th trip to Patong and 6th time staying here. How things have changed. We won't be back.
First few visits, prices were great, they had great staff that were super friendly, polite, helpful and remembered us each year we returned. We would often bring them small gifts. On this visit, staff have all changed, not as friendly, polite or helpful. Although the old staff weren't fluent in English they would always have a laugh and make the time to understand and help. There is a new and old building, the new building is starting to show the signs of wear and tear and is quickly looking old. Poor design means the shower in the rooms of the new building put water all over your bathroom floor and if you like having an in room swimming pool then you would be in luck otherwise it's really annoying.

So overall higher prices, poorer quality staffing who don't speak great English, rooms getting an old worn look to them. The only reason you would stay here is the location, short stroll to bangla rd and jungceylon shopping centre. Time to try somewhere new give this one a miss.

Stayed here for 3 nights, never again! When we got picked up from airport taxi driver told us it was a fantastic hotel so we were all really looking forward to it! How wrong could he be! Room basic but clean to be fair apart from Cockroach in bathroom! Pool area small with only about 8 sun loungers. Breakfast was good and drinks were reasonable. The pictures on the website are nothing like what thay really are! Central location but in a dirty area of town. Definately not recommended

I booked this hotel for one night through Agoda, and received a confirmation email that our booking was guaranteed. Turned up to check in at 1 pm and was told that they were fully booked and that there was no room for us. This was after we had paid for a taxi to get there.

After telling us that the hotel was full, they tried to move us next door to The Minotel Patong Beach. We tried to tell them that we booked with them and not next door and that we didn't want to stay at the Minotel, but they wouldn't listen and just kept saying that we would stay next door for the same price. We asked to speak to the manager, but they refused to call him/her down. We then told them that if they could not find us a room in their resort - the one that we booked and paid for, then we would like a refund and would find our own accommodation. They spent another 15 minutes trying to convince us to stay next door - telling us that the whole of Patong Beach was fully booked and that we wouldn't find accommodation elsewhere. They reluctantly agreed to organise a refund.

The refund process took about 1 hour. During this time my boyfriend waited and organised the refund to his bank, I walked down the street that the hotel was on and the next one along and found three cheaper hotels which were similar quality that had vacancies for the night. We settled on The Merrison Inn for 1900 baht for the night.

When we arrived, one other couple that turned up with a booking were also told that they were full and would have to stay next door. While my boyfriend was waiting for his refund, two other couples also arrived and faced the same problems.

I would recommend anyone interested in booking this hotel to strongly reconsider. There are nicer places within walking distance that are cheaper, nicer and much less hassle. The attitude of the reception staff was poor, unwilling to help and unwilling to listen. They kept telling us that it was Agoda's fault that the accommodation was overbooked, not theirs, but I highly doubt this, and sort of feel like it was a scam to pay for a higher priced room at their resort, but end up at the shabby looking hotel next door.

We are currently awaiting a refund from agoda.

Room Tip: Don't book here.

booked in june for christmas holiday took deposit from credit card 3 weeks prior from the departure day cheked with the hotel for further payments they wrote back that they dont have my booking took me a whole week of every day calling and emailng finally recieving my confurmation number printed out all the email conversations and bank statments and took it with me to phuket when we arived they had our booking BUT....... we booked a sea view, there are no sea view rooms at the hotel AT ALL! because the first and the older part of the hotel only have 4 floors wich balconys are on the sea side and have afternoon sun even if you stay on the 4th floor and if you stay in the front room you only can see a liuttle bit of the horizon. the second building much newer and has 6 floorsthank god the balconys are oposit the side from the 1st building that means that the sun is not hitting the rooms. We stayed in the 2 nd building on the 4th floor the view was sheds with rusted roofs!!!!! room facilities: there is NO hair dryer No curtain for the showe so if you want to take a shower water goes all over the bathroom floor!!! No hot water most of the time you have to aske them for the hot water to be conected they only give you shower caps shampoo and soap are in liquid contaners hung on the wall stayed in a lot of hotels first time EVER i saw the shampoo and conditioner to be poured from 50 litre containers to each room. Towels we had 3 people in the room and they only gave us 1 hand towl for 3 of us no face washers and the same towels used at the pool to beach usualy hotels have white towels in the room and coloured towels for the pool But Not In This Hotel! the tv is is verry verry small for the size of the room cleaners hair is all over the place and on the beds after they "clean" the rooms its discusting!!! The bed linen not white colour at all and most times is ripped or has holes on it!!! The swiming pool is located between the 2 buildings no sun lounge as they discribed on the webisties and no sun umbrelas there is only 6 sun lounges aroung the pool there is NO bell boy we had to carry in and out our luggage our selves!!!! from the room we cant call the reception or any other room services we can only call other rooms in the hotel there is no internation call facilities from the room only from reception that costs more than to buy a international card and call from the outside box phone. Breakfast: Same every day there is no veriety of food once the watermelon smelt like onion becasue thy didnt wash the knife." Walking" distance from the hotel to the beach its close to 1 kilometer from the hotel and being the beach road has no traffic lights and no cars stop at the zebra crossing. The only plus is that the room is a okay size room. thats what you get for going to a cheap hotel! NEVER EVER AGAIN

Room Tip: the 4th floor second building

I first went to this hotel back last year nov 2010 recomended by my uncle, grandfather and several friends. how had been several times before. it was nice service was good, the rooms were fine apart from no shower curtain and every day all the water would go on the floor you would get out the bath and have to be very very carful not to slip over on the polished floor surface
but it that was ok because apart from that it was very good. the staff were friendly, good location for resonable price of just over 1000bhat. this time i go nov 2011 all the staff are new and are usless and quite rude genarally and the hotel rooms have all doubled in price and then some but the service has got worse. not only that but they have also decided to charge
each time you bring a girl back to the hotel, i think it was about 200 bhat (£4.20 roughly) which is not a huge amount but it soon adds up. we stayed 1 night and left next day and went to another hotel there is so much competition in phuket dont let them mess you about just go some were else.

I chose the Pa-tong Pearl on location, price and the fact that it had largely favourable write ups on TripAdvisor. I wasn't expecting much but I would say I was in for a pleasant surprise.
The reception staff were very pleasant and check in was trouble free. The room was very nice with a modern flat screen TV, mini-bar containing reasonably priced items and an excellent clean and functioning bathroom with a shower that gave both power and temperature control. Outside of my room was the pool and a good area for sunbathing although I was surprised that they did not have a bar / snack service there. The buffet style breakfast was very good indeed. The location is good for both the beach and Patong's night-life and the hotel staff are very good. One of my top hotels.
