Everything was fine here: nice room, beautiful garden, little bar to get a drink in the evening... but in the morning the roosters start making a noise at 5.30... And then there is a tempel or something nearby, where they make announcements for the whole village...about 7 o'clock. But when you like to get up early in the morning: it's perfect! If you want to sleep a bit longer: take some earplugs...

Clean, picturesque chalet style rooms were set in beautiful lush gardens. Rooms were cool and the beds were really large and good. The lighting in our chalet was very subdued & the small windows didn't let in much light so it was difficult to find things again once we had put them down! Our first floor room had a very large balcony & we were lucky as we had a table & chairs on ours, although many didn't which seemed a waste of space. There are 2 pools, one basic rectangle & a larger pool with a jacuzzi section. There are ample sunbeds around both & plenty of towels.

As is the norm in Thailand, all the hotel employees were friendly and courteous. However, the waiters & waitresses seemed very inexperienced. We were part of a group of 19, and although there were only a few other people in the restaurant we had poor service, e.g. starters arriving after main meals, side dishes arriving 15 minutes before main dishes etc. On the worst night there was a gap of nearly 45 mins between the first people receiving food and the last. Drinks would be brought one at a time over quite a distance which seemed very inefficient. Breakfast was waiter/waitress service instead of the usual fantastic Thai buffet breakfast we had elsewhere, & some of our group had to wait over 30 mins for a fried egg.

Tip for large parties, or anyone in a hurry. Get together & order the same thing - it's your best bet of eating fairly quickly and atthe same time!

We travelled around Thailand with the excellent Explore company and after two days and nights near the Burmese border trekking through very wet jungle and staying in hill tribe accommodation, this place was exactly what we all needed. Each chalet was more than adequately equipped with air-con, ensuite shower room etc. and decorated with dark hardwood floors, walls & ceilings. The views of rice fields and hills beyond were stunning. The staff couldn't have been more attentive and friendly. The on site restaurant was excellent. The resort also offers a range of massage treatments some of which initially appeared a little pricey, but when the two hour duration of the full body massage is taken into account I've got to say it represents good value. All Thai massage contains some yoga-like manipulations, compared with ones I've had in Kerala, India and Turkey, and if you're not already pretty supple some of these may be pretty uncomfortable. So I'd caution against the 'dry' Thai massage and instead recommend the one with oils, as this is much less punishing & manipulative. The two hours seemed to flash by!

We were in Mae Hong Son for 2 days and stayed at the Golden Pai.

The accommodation is very simple, while they could decorate the room much better. It felt a bit like staying in a motel but in Thailand :-) And we had the suite, which was the most expensive room!

Besides it is very clean, the staff is friendly and there are two pools to relax.

The food was pretty good but the breakfast was the worse breakfast of our trip.

Anyway, when you go to Mae Hong Son, you spend most of the time outside since you want to visit the long-neck women, do the elephant ride and so on. So the place is good enough for the night.

One point I want to add is that the setting is beautiful and Mae Hong Son is worse visiting!
