“Vary Bad Beds, but massage at beach!”
Reviewed January 19, 2011

I stay at Lavinia guesthouse during the holidays. The location is vary good I can walk to the beach close by but that is all. There are many place to eat but very expensive food. The room I stay in is with balcony but the a/c works just ok. I pay 1100 night and then find other places same cost but much nicer. The beds are bad I get massage everyday on the beach so that makes my back better. Bathroom very nice though. The elder woman was very sweet and have large lady not so nice when I ask where to go eat. I think she not speak so much English or maybe not understand what I say and send me to 7-11? Says up to you but ask for good place to eat who knows? It was quiet but that was good only. Can find much nice place for same costs. No internet/wifi which is bad for me. I find wifi at Italy restaurant so not terrible and close by. Beach is nice and Ralieh beach good too...will not come back to this guesthouse. Ao Nang good but expensive too!

We stayed for one night. All I can say is what a dump...we were put on the ground ffloor in a large room with 1960's green polyester satin curtains, plastic couch, and disgustingly hard beds. it smelt bad and the air conditioning was weak at best. The caretaker /owner was miserable.... for the price, stay somewhere else, you will get something much nicer.. Worst experience ever.

What is more annoying than the number of times one is offered a Suit in Ao Nang? The number of pizzas perhaps? How many Indian tailors’ shops and ‘Pizzerias’ can one use in a few km coastal strip in the heart of tropical Thailand?

Anyway, though we did not buy a suit, we did try a few Italian restaurants during our several weeks stay in Ao Nang. The food was really, really bad, the pizzas like flat dried pancakes, bad wine, etc… . We decided to give it one last try and ended at the Lavinia House (Restaurant and GH). Much to our surprise, the pasta was excellent (well cooked quality pasta). Some pasta dishes are prepared with home made pasta. The sauces are not exactly the Italian ‘real McCoy’ but nonetheless very tasty. The wine carafe is reasonably priced and of good quality. It has a real pizza oven. You can choose the type of crust you prefer, thin or thick, but never dry like so many of our previous unfortunate ‘Italian restaurant’ experiences. The restaurant is not fancy at all, very simple in fact but well located right in the lively main strip of Ao Nang. We liked it so much that we went there twice and look forward to going back again if we travel to Ao Nang.

Whilst wandering along Ao Nang front we saw a sign for rooms to let 700 baht. Positioned behind its own Restaurant the Lavinia is a great cheap base. Large clean room with Air con and a great brand new wetroom. Entrance is all dark wood and oddments but dont let it put you off. Tv with loads of channels and large fridge/freezer.Step out of the front door and thru thr little passage running past restaurant and you are right on the front. Thoroughly recommend
