Owner description: This temple complex not only serves as a religious site for the monks who live and worship there, but also features a maze of natural caves in an overgrown jungle valley where stone tools, pottery remains and the mold for making Buddha footprints have been excavated.

“knackered but worth the effort”
Reviewed January 17, 2014

Not very well sign posted to get there, be prepared to take your time to get to the top...my partner and I are reasonably fit but boy did this climb take its toll....the legs could feel it for days after. It was worth it, the views are amazing and the fun was achieving the challenge of getting to the top. The tiger cave was good to see with the monks chanting. Overall a good visit....

“Must-do in Krabi Town”
Reviewed January 16, 2014

This was a welcome change from the usual temples, and a great workout while on vacation. Two of us climbed the stairs and visited the temple on Jan 2nd. Lots of Thais visiting during the holiday. We started around 4pm, to avoid the heat. The trail has lots of trees so it is rather shaded from the sun. Be sure to bring water and a snack. It took us ~25 minutes to reach the top. Tons of monkeys along the way, and they definitely are accustomed to humans; we didn't have problems, but I avoided holding my camera or water bottle out (kept them in my back when not using).

Getting there: we caught a songthaew from Krabi Town for 50 baht each. All the drivers in Krabi town we found eager to rip us off and charge 100-200 per person, but just walk away and they will change their minds. Getting a ride back was a bit tougher at ~5:30pm, we had to walk around a bit before finding a songthaew that was dropping someone off and ready to go back to town. We didn't find any waiting in that area.

“Do it early in the day!”
Reviewed January 15, 2014

This is a very interesting attraction. Most would only come, do the climb to top and leave, but worth having a wander around BEFORE you have done the climb!

The climb itself is 1237 steps, to a temple with breathtaking views of surrounding area. Don't kid yourself about your level of fitness, it's 1237 steps, in the heat & high humidity. Take it easy.

There is a bit of rubbish around, i think from the monkeys, who raid the rubbish bins. there are special lids on the bids now, but the monkeys are quite cleaver and adept at getting in there! don't fed them, it only encourages them, and some can be territorial and aggressive.

I made the climb quite easily, went back half way and went back up again. Going back down is harder on your legs, particularly quads and calves, and maybe a good massage the next day will help soothe aching muscles!

“Beautiful view and good fitness!”
Reviewed January 14, 2014 via mobile

My partner and I tripped it from Aonang to Krabi Town using the local bus service which costs 60THB. It took roughy 35-40mins. Once you are there, just ask a taxi driver to take you to the tiger cave and temple. We paid 450THB as there was two of us, and the driver waited for us for an hour and a half, then took us back to Krabi Town. I read some people got it for 200THB, and we tried, but not even close. They would hardly budge on even 500THB, so we ended up accepting 450THB after our third attempt.

We are moderately fit, and it took us about 25-30mins to climb to the top, and less to get down. Make sure you allow about 15mins up the top to take in the views. They are really beautiful, and I loved the temples and the big gold Buddha. Down the bottom, allow another 15mins to walk around as there are statues and monuments to admire at the bottom also. Perhaps give yourself 2 hours if you might need to take breaks on the way up. The stairs are quite steep in sections. It is a tough climb, and I was certainly breathing in and out quite heavily by the time I reached the top. Although, it's definitely worth it. Just make sure you take all the beauty in : )

“1237 Steps”
Reviewed January 11, 2014

I´ve been there several times and this time i walked up the 1237 steps to the top of Tiger Cave Temple. It was really tiring to walk up there. But i´ll not miss this experience.
The great view on the top and the feeling that you did it is great!
