Our driver confirmed that Nong Joke in Krabi Town was the most venerable restaurant for local restaurant food so off we went to sample the delights. The restaurant is on a road that does not seem too busy so it may not be easy to find. We ordered the local delicacies of gaeng som pla kapong (snapper in spicy and sour soup), pak goot (stir fried local vegetable), sataw pad goong (petai beans fried with shrimp). The gaeng som came with fresh bamboo which was light and added good texture to the dish (this bamboo was refreshingly not the pungent version you sometimes get in other Thai dishes). Pak goot was crunchy and very good, we finished it in minutes - yes we love vegetables! The pad sataw was surprisingly not spicy but quite sour - perhaps that's how they like it in the South. We were offered a tray of desserts to select from (this is when we remembered to use our camera!) and asked for their most popular one - coconut cream custard - and fresh coconut jelly. Both were nice to end the simple meal with. The menu has many more local dishes that we were not able to try so this calls for another visit.
