To put things into perspective - we stayed in this same place in 2008 when it was still pretty new. The contrast to our second visit couldn't have been larger. Back in 2008, we were greeted by smiling people offering us welcome drinks and helping us with luggage (this place is hard to get to so it's about a 500-meter walk either from the longtail boat or from the taxi). The bungalow was nothing fancy but clean and offered decent value for money. This time we are met by the owner's Thai wife, admittedly nice but as a small lady she obviously cannot be of much help with heavy luggage. The bungalow has obviously not been maintained at all for the last 5 years - it smells of mold, the plastic floor surface is peeling off everywhere, mosquitoes killed on the walls and not cleaned, shower drain almost totally blocked etc. Worst of all, the mattress has only the springs with no padding - very uncomfortable. (Anyway it's hard to sleep because some fruits keep on dropping on the metal roof all night making very loud sounds.) At the reception area, you are "greeted" by the owner who starts insulting you the minute you arrive. Exceptional. If you want to stay on this beach - which is very nice and quiet even though admittedly a bit of a hassle to reach - go for Pan Beach - the bungalows look much nicer, are actually cheaper, the owner is super-friendly and you can get all the way to the bungalows with a car.More
