“Pretty shabby set up”
Review of King Cobra Village

King Cobra Village
Reviewed March 3, 2012

Not for the squeamish,we were as bored as the snakes looked, short show and pretty cruel, some other animals monkeys and snakes in very small cages and a market selling the usual tat.Would not recommend it,really not worth the 40min drive out of the city.

This is a really fun place to visit, about 20km outside of Khon Kaen. Lots of souvenirs to buy, and friendly people. And Snakes!

the rest is not worth mentioning

the village is more or less living of the shows with many local schools and such going there

the cobra show is ok but the small"zoo" round the back is very upsetting - animals in small cages ,when I was there a drunken Thai was teasing a monkey with a lighter getting it too try and grab the flame ..far below any known standard of animal care - should be closed down !!

The first thing that grabbed my attention was that the people working with these Cobras seemed to be extremely rough. Obviously as a snake enthusiast this struck me as somewhat cruel, but I realised that Thailand has a very different culture to other western countries.
The show consisted of dancing, talking about the animals, a small zoo located behind the main stage area that is free to walk through and souvenirs for sale. You can get up close and personal with a couple of different snake species as they walk through the crowd.
If you want to see a truely amazing display of snake handling with a lot of showmanship I would recommend going to see it for the shear size of these amazing animals that the people work with.
The drive from Khon Kaen city is through rice and sugar plantations and is well sign posted. Everybody are extremely polite and helpful and always happy to help.
If you watch the video I posted I must point out that I have had many years experience working with snakes and that it is not common practice for the organisors to allow tourists onto the stage.
