“Beautiful views of countryside and water!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 17, 2013

A trip on the Thai-Burma Railway is well worth your time! If possible, visit the museum and the graveyards in town first so that you can understand the history of the railway and the terrible loss of life in building this system. The museum, small, is very well done with good signage to help you understand the process of construction and the roles of those from many countries who built it.

The ride itself is fun. Sit on the left hand side if you can so you can get the best views. Different vendors will come through the train selling snacks. Sit with the locals. Avoid the extra charge of the tourist car. You'll have more fun with everyone sitting on the harder seats.

It was well worth the visit and we went round twice trying to understand what went on and had a nice time in the cafe.

“Less exciting of renovation”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 10, 2013

I took the train more than 30 years ago when the pillars were still in its original condition and the train could only move at walking speed. Now the train rides with 20 - 30 km an hour and when you book a return ride you might find yourself pretty alone in the cabin on the way back. At that time the driver speeds up and you will get an experience of your life, when you get flown around because of the uneven tracks and the seats will fall off so that you have to be careful not to get hit on your feet. I suggest that you just hold tight somewhere and dont sit down, otherwise your backside will be blueblack at the end of the ride. But for sure it is an experience!

“Nam Tok to Tha Kilen”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 5, 2013

We were told that this section was the most interesting, and it was beautiful. Especially liked the part over the old wooden bridge. Rickety old train, but full of atmosphere. I think there are 3 trains a day, but times vary, so check locally.

“Ride to Nam Tok station”

The train was delayed for a bit, but you can walk along the railway.
Gorgeous photos can be taken but trestle bridges along the cliff make the cutting work even more dangerous in the past.
