Right on the river kwai-with a bit of scrubbing up this place would look five star!!

The advantages-food is lovely-a whole thai menu and an english one in the pool-side restaurant. The staff aren't particularly friendly but they can arrange to get your laundry done and book massage appointments at the on-sight spa which is lovely. At night it is so peaceful and it is lovely sitting by the river having cocktails. The rooms and bathrooms are massive, clean, cool and quiet, so we had a great weeks sleep here!

The disadvantages- one member of our group had loads of money stolen and we were convinced it was one of the maintenance men as there wasn't anyone else really around at the time. So it is a case of locking your valuables away or taking them with you. It is also quite far away from anything so to see the sights would need a taxi, but otherwise restaurants are in easy reach- I would recommend the tree-top bar for cocktails and the jolly frog for dinner.

Overall-beautiful place to stay, especially if on a budget, but will require taxi to see the sights.

It has been a very long time since I stayed in a place that I thought was substandard. Actually only stayed one night while on a bike tour.

The positives; very little. The pool area was nice. The part along the river had some great views. Did have air- con. The price is very cheap so you get what you pay for. These are the reasons I give it a 2 instead of a 1.

The negatives; poor rooms which really need an overhaul. One of the bed legs were broken. Towels ripped with normal use. Only a doorknob lock that anyone could break into. Lighting was poor. Breakfast was poor. Service was okay but very spotty. Wi-fi sometimes worked and other times didn't.

I wouldn't want to stay here again and was glad it was only one night. Could be a great place if they would renovate.

We spent 2 nights at Camelia resort. As many travelers has pointed out, the resort is located just by the beautiful river or kwai, and its not too far off from the famous bridge on the river kwai and museum. The resort itself is located about 200meter from the main access road, and if you can easily miss it if you are not looking out for the small signboard along the main road.
The resort is quite, nice and clean. The rooms are small, but good enough if you planning to spend most of your time outside visiting place of interest or just lazing by the pool. The staff are friendly and attentive to your needs so no complaints there. There is also free wifi in rooms and most areas around the resort.

From the resort, you would need to walk about 5 - 10 mins to get to other restaurants or bars along the main road. There are quite a few restaurants which offer good local and western food. While resort does have a restaurant, we spent most of our time walking out for meals and drinks.

Other places of interest which we visited -
1. Bridge on the river kwai - about 5 mins drive away
2. War museum - 5 mins drive away
3. Tiger temple - about 30km away from town

We booked into this 'resort' for two nights and stayed only one - left the very next day.

The positives of this hotel are - nice pool, nice garden - great views.

The negatives - Super hot around the pool - absolutely no shade.
In regards to the rooms - big but drab and not clean. Sheets and pillows were good tho. Towels were very tatty and threadbear (like cardboard). Very uncomfortable bed - hard as a rock. Only one old chair on patio and was broken. Full glass frontage which although great for the view is not good for a good nights sleep as resort leaves lights on till late hours in the night and light floods into the room. Also flimsy locks on doors which didn't give good impression of security. Bathroom is awful - horrid beyond belief.

Staff were not rude, but weren't very helpful either. We got the feeling they just didn't care.

Although able to get wi-fi in room for free, sites such as Tripadvisor and Booking.com were blocked and for while facebook was to untill we questioned it. It was then unblocked but they would not unblock tripadvisor.

Room cost was 700bht per night - no breakfast included also had to pay extra for a TV in room if wanted. (this doesn't worry us, but for price not good). Also very noisy area around it - loud music played all night. This hotel is located away from the main tourist area - quite a walk to cafes and bars and tour opperators, but is close to River Kwai Bridge and museum.

Much better guesthouses for less the price further down the street.

NOTE: For tourist information centre - go to the TAT (Tourism Authority of Thailand) for info - located on the highway down the road from the big war cemetary (about 5km from the bridge). They have great maps and brochures in English and other languages there. The staff there are fabulous too. We spent half a day wandering (trudging) around near the River Kwai bridge looking for a map in english to no avail. Even this guest house didn't have any maps or brochures in English (or for that matter any other language) other than Thai.

Situated right by the river the view is amazing, our rooms had a balcony and were really comfortable but the bathroom wasnt great it was tiny and the shower was terrible, cold and no power. You have to pay extra for a tv in your room, the location is nice for relaxing and being away from everything but we got bored after a day of this and we were staying days! The food here is amazing and the staff are quite friendly. They get a lot of large young tour groups so it can get quite loud at night. It was close to the river kwai bridge but a nice walk from the town where all the fun was! A visit to Erwan falls is a must!

I thought the hotel was really nice, it's in a great location with a beautiful view as well. I think since their renovation a couple of years ago it has changed so much for the better. Our room was nice and comfortable, staff were really friendly and the food was tasty. Looking forward to going back there!

Sadly deceptive, this one. Lovely position but absolutely no other reason to go for it ... unless you're into falafals and Wiener Schnitzel. Cuisine reflects predominantly Israeli customers. Seems a long way to come for stained ceilings and walls, bathroom doors that don't reach the ceiling, holes in the walls and bedrooms that have all the ambiance of slightly spacious and upmarket prison cells. Avoid.
