Xanadu 2008

I recommend everyone who wanna go to Kanchanaburi and stay within its surroundings to stay here. The service Dennis, the owner and his wife Nee, is absolutely top notch. The kitchen staff are absolutelt professional, great thai food, probably the best thai food I ever had. Ask for Nee and see if she can fix a papaya salad - its absolutely deliciuos, and spicy!! :-)
Dennis, the owner fixed everything for us (a family of three), he booked taxi drivers, hooked us up on trips and so forth.
The location is great, it lies just besides the River Kwai, and they hav a little porch down by the river. We sat here almost every night and enjoyed the super great food.
The room was very nice, with all amenities, TV, AC a fresh toilet and so on. This place is great!!

We enjoyed our 3 night stay at Xanadau with breakfast and dinner all eaten in. Denis is a great host , will join you for a beer as well as full of information to assist you to enjoy your stay and see the sites.Nee's cooking is good with adequate serves. Xanadau is kept immaculate from the clean rooms to the beautiful grounds and pool, a real credit to them. I cannot forget to mention Jack ( security ) the house dog , a beautiful, playful 9 mth old German Shepard always watching on.

This is a great little haven away from the hustle and bustle and overlooking the river Kwai. The pool is great and the food here is as good as we have found anywhere in Thailand and is very reasonably priced. Denis is very welcoming and helpful and he will book taxis and give advice on where to go and how best to do things. The accommodation is in cabins and is comfortable, although we did have a bit of a problem with the shower and to get it hot enough you have to reduce the pressure flow. There could be more information in the rooms about possible trips and things to do in the area. It takes about 2.5 hours approx. to get there from Bangkok but it is so worth it.

Stayed here at the end of a months holiday and couldn't have picked a better place to stay.

Denis is a great host and his wife a fanatic cook.

Great accommodation, great food and great price, all in all excellent value. What more could travelers ask for.

This is the prefect place to truly unwind. Incredibly peaceful. The owners are very friendly and manage the place very professionally. Everything runs like clockwork here. The grounds clearly take an awful lot of work to keep looking so good, but it all seems to get done without you noticing, or without it becoming intrusive.

One think that did initially worry us, with its somewhat isolated location, was what we would do for eating. We needn't have worried. The food from the resort restaurant is amazing. Not only is the quality to a very high standard, but the servings are unusually generous. These days, the cost of food materials, especially things like seafood, is really not cheap to buy in Thailand. Hard therefore to imagine they make much profit on the food, but from a customer's point of view, it's fantastic. The other great thing about the restaurant is that both Thai food and Western food is equally as good. That's pretty rare in Thailand.

The only real criticisms we could think of was the mattresses perhaps could be upgraded, and the toilets could be a bit stinky. Oh, and the roosters crowing at all hours could be annoying - you really wouldn't want to be nursing a hangover here - but on the other hand, it does give the place a bit of charm to have wildlife roaming around freely.

All in all, we loved this place and can't wait to return. Keep up the good work.

I can't recommend Xanadu enough. It's a very quiet and peaceful location but the real highlight are the owners who are incredibly friendly and helpful. They will recommend and arrange great tours of local interests. Plus the home cooked Thai food is amazing!

The word "resort" in the name can be misleading. It is an excellent family run facility in a rural setting that is about 10 kms from town. Need to call a taxi every time you need to go anywhere costing you approx. THB 200 one way trip to town. Rooms have basic necessities covered with attached bathrooms. Do not expect luxurious plush bedding. Hot water in shower using instant water heater. No hot water in sink. . Internet or TV is only available in common area - open air verandah - as a lounge / reception / dinning / bar.

The hosts - Dennis and Nee - are excellent hosts and prepare excellent food. Very prompt in responding to emails and provide honest advice about the attractions/sight seeing in the area.

Excellent facility for back packers or families looking for good facility in quiet remote area of the town. Very good value for money.
