This hotel is located in a beautiful location outside the city of Kanchanaburi on the bank of the river Kwai. The owner is very friendly and made us feel welcome and comfortable and gave us some nice tips and information about the area. The rooms are clean, with a large bathroom, although we found the bed a bit hard to sleep on. Breakfast is nice and the small restaurant also has a nice lunch and dinner menu.

Charming little motel just minutes outside of Kanchanburi. Rooms are simple and clean. Food is very good and reasonably priced. Host Dennis and his wife are approachable and genuinely interested in making their guests comfortable. The property is set against the river Kwai and is a great place to relax after a day of sightseeing in the Kanchanburi area.

I'm normally very hard to please and almost always find something to gripe about when staying somewhere, but the for the first time I could find absolutely nothing wrong here!

From the service, to the rooms, to the ambience, the food, everything was outstanding, we had such a lovely relaxing break. Here's a bit more info:

Rooms:

About 10 bungalows set amid beautiful gardens - all tended daily. Simply furnished, but spotlessly clean with a bed, TV, large fridge, wardrobe & dressing table. Room rates were very reasonable - good value we thought.

Communal areas:

A lovely little pool, surrounded with deckchairs, tables, chairs and next to the open restaurant & bar. By the river is a deck to sit out on and plenty of garden shady space to lie out on.

Food:

Simple breakfasts with great bread (not sweet like the usual thai stuff) AMAZING thai food..we've been living here for a couple of months, have travelled here many times and the food was the best we've had. Big portions, plenty of lean meat and a great kick (you can have mild if requested) some english food as well we didn't try except the homemade apple pie (yum) Very reasonably priced as was beer which was served ice cold.

But the best thing about this place which really makes it are the hosts Dennis & Nee. Super friendly, very laid back, nothing is too much trouble. Honestly one of the best places I have stayed at. Will be recommending it to everyone i meet!

We were surprised to get a bungalow booking only a week ahead.
'Xanadu' is difficult to find, as it is about 9 kms out of town and as there are no signs on the roads. If you come without your own transport, you rely on a taxi.
The resort has about 10 bungalows, most of them semi detached. There is a sitting area right by the river and a swimming pool right between the owner's residence and the open restaurant.
Most special about 'Xanadu' is Dennis, the British owner. He's the most welcoming person you can imagine, helpful for anything and always open for a talk.
There was a Friday evening buffet for 220 Baht, but mainly meaty stuff. No fish or seafood.
The breakfast menu is o.k.
The rooms/bungalows are simple. The TV did not work, which I didn't mind. But there's a wide selection of DvDs available in the restaurant.

Unfortunately we only stayed 2 nights in this beautiful resort. Dennis immediately made us feel at home and was extremely helpful. Nee' s food was some of the best we had on our travels in Thailand. The room was very clean and comfortable. The terrace overlooking the River Kwai is beautiful and so peaceful. There is also a lovely swimming pool.
Dennis will arrange outings, taxis etc and even doubled us up with guests also travelling back to Bangkok to save on fares.
Visit the war cemetery and museum in Kanchanaburi. Well worth a visit. Dennis uses a very reliable taxi driver for these trips into town.
