“Great atmosphere, quiet and good service!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 5, 2013

We stayed à couple of nights at this hotel.
The hotel is about 5/10 minutes by taxi from the train station. We arrived late but the kitchen opened especially for our diner needs. Great! The staff speaks perfect English. The restaurant in the hotel is good with a variety of thai food and some western dishes. The rooms are nice and espacious. Our third bed was à little hard, but that was quickly resolved. In the reception you can ask for booting excursions (prices are ok) and also they can call a tuk tuk or a taxi for you, and anything else, sometimes before you ask! You can also rent a bike or scooter. Close to the hotel, passing the bridge there is a nice area with restaurants and some shops. It's a good 20 minutes walk or just 5 with tuktuk. The swimming pool is big and clean. The pool table was a nice extra! Quiet area. The bbq new years eve was a feest. I would recommend the hotel to whoever wants to have a relaxing and good time in a nice environment.

Thank you for your review and recommendation. Glad to hear that we were able to help you with meals even when you arrived late.

I am happy to hear that you enjoyed our New Year Eve's bbq. I certainly did myself and hope that we can organize more of these bbq events.

The hotel is about 5/10 minutes by taxi from the train station. Once arrived the staff is quite gentle and makes the check in fast.

The restaurant in the hotel is good with a variety of thai food and some western dishes. Masamam curry is very good and the french fries are excellent.

The rooms are nice and espacious, although the walls are thin and you may hear the neighbours from the other bungalows if they are a little bit loud.

In the reception you can ask for booking excursions (prices are ok) and also they can call a tuk tuk or a taxi for you. You can also rent a bike.

Close to the hotel, passing the bridge there is a nice area with restaurants and some shops. It's a good 20 minutes walk or just 5 with tuktuk.

The swimming pool is big and clean, but the water was a little bit cold during our stay although it was hot. I suspect the blue roof is not allowing the sun to warm the water accordingly.

The only bad aspect I've got is that I used the laptop in the restaurant to email some photos, and it deleted all the content from the sd card with all the trip memories, I guess because of some virus. I don't blame the hotel for that, it was my fault for being reckless to use unknown computers without locking my card but I just wanted to warn the people to be more careful than me. After communicating it to the staff they removed the laptop, I guess for checking.

I would recommend the hotel to whoever wants to have a relaxing and good time in a nice environment.

Room Tip: The taxi drivers waiting for the tourist in the train station are trying to rip them off, asking 500...

Thank you for your review.

I believe you must have been staying in one of the remaining few bungalows that still require an upgrade. We were changing all standard bungalows from the thin board walls to proper brick walls to give it some insulation from outside noise. Unfortunately we ran smack into our high season and had to stop the renovation - leaving a few with the board walls still.

On your problem with the laptop, I am sorry to hear that. However, the laptop actually does not belong to Thai Garden Inn. It is a private property which was left on the counter for ease of access by the owner and also to guests who have urgent needs. And the laptop has all the proper and legal virus software installed as that is top priority by the owner. Hence the disappearance of your photos could not be due to any virus attack at all. I have been informed by the owner of the laptop that he did find many photos stored in the desktop when he took the laptop back and unfortunately he deleted all of them and cleared his waste bin, hence I could not offer to even send them to you if they were yours. The owner decided to remove the laptop because he found many downloads of software and pictures to his laptop and also that some people were hogging the laptop, thus not allowing others to have a share to use the laptop which was the original intention. Some were either listening to music or watching movies or playing games on it and this deprived others from using it for important matters.

I have to say that taxi drivers all over Thailand are terrible when it comes to tourists. They try to rip you off if they can. A trip from the station to the tourist strip (including our hotel) is about 100 baht, max 120 baht for the whole taxi.

But I am glad to hear that on the whole your stay with us has been a pleasant one and thank you for your recommendation.

Had 2 bungalows for 4 nights, as a family of 4. Staff are fabulous, my boys still talk about playing pool with the chef. The swimming pool is magnificent, hired the bikes which was a fun day out. Very comfortable rooms, generally laid back feel with the staff quietly running the place around you. Judy was very helpful with bookings via email, and advice once we got there. The Sound and Light show was an unexpected bonus. Would definitely recommend.

What a fantastic little gem this place is. Lush gardens, great accommodation, and importantly a staff that are attentive and wanting to ensure that your experience here in Kanchanaburi is first class. Judy, the owner, in particular was extremely knowledgeable about recommending quality experiences, and also sorted all my further bookings for accommodation and buses. As a solo traveller, this has been invaluable.

Location is a little of the beaten track but we had a car so it wasn't a problem. Check in was smooth and Khun Fah was a delight to deal with. Family rooms are big and very clean. Some of the beds are a little hard though.
Breakfast choice was good, but fresh would be nice.
Restaurant food is delicious and freshly cooked. They also had a nice selection of wine available.
Their laundry facilities came in very handy, it is self service but easy to use and powder can be bought at reception.
One thing I think I do need to mention is one of the dogs at the resort. I live in Thailand and have Thai street dogs as pets so understand them etc. There is one dog that is muzzled obviously because it is a nipper/biter. Not a problem for me but my Father got a little scared when he was walking back to his room and the dog attacked him. Doesn't make you feel very welcome! Also arriving back at the resort you were always greeted by said angry dog barking at you.
When we come back to Kanchanaburi unfortunately we will find somewhere else to stay due to the unwelcoming dog.

Room Tip: Family rooms overlook the pool

Our stay at Thai Garden Inn had no faults at all. The service was fantastic, they couldn't have been anymore helpful and polite! The bungalow rooms are lovely, ours was a garden view room. The whole place is beautifully set and excellent value for money. I would recommend this place to anybody!

We took the train from Bangkok to Kanchanaburi, and following the instructions on Thai Garden Inn's web site, we got off at the River Kwai station. We were the only passengers who got off there, and it took us a while to get a tuk tuk to the hotel. However, the tuk tuk driver knew the location of the hotel.

Check in was hassle free, and the cabin we got was, as requested, a double bedded air conditioned one. It was clean and the room had been freshly made up. The room had a safe, a mini fridge, and plenty of storage. WiFi was available in our room, and we had no problems uploading photos to Facebook and making Skype calls.

The location is a little away from the main town, which could be an advantage if you are looking for an extremely quiet evening. It is about a 15 minute walk to the restaurants and shops in town. However, the road was extremely deserted, and the last 500 meters to the hotel passes by some agricultural land and is not at all well lit. We made it a point to be back by about 9 PM -- any later and we would suggest that you take a tuk tuk from town.

Reception was friendly and chatty, and they arranged a tour to the surrounding areas for us. The tour was one of the best we've ever taken, and I don't think we could have done all the sites on our own.

Breakfast was the standard toast and eggs -- not bad, but nothing exciting. Our tour left at 8:00 AM, and they served us breakfast at about 7:45 AM -- we were comfortably done in 10 minutes.

The hotel also booked us on a mini bus to Ayutthaya. The bus picked us up at the hotel and dropped us at the hotel in Ayutthaya.

As someone else has mentioned, do try the Thai grill ("Moo Kata") place in town. You get an amazing spread for 109 Baht, and working the grill on your table is great fun!

Thank you for your review. The next time you disembark at River Kwai station, give us a call and we will run you to our hotel for free.

We do note about the road lighting. Unfortunately it is not up to us. We have discussed with multiple authorities here but none could ever give us any answer. But no worries, there are plenty of tut tuts around that will take you back to the hotel in the evenings.
