We stayed four nights in Rest Detail Hotel.
The hotel is located about 10 minutes (by car) from the city of Hua Hin, in an area that is pretty remote. There is nothing really close to the hotel and you really have to go to Hua Hin for shops and restaurants. This is obviously an advantage if you are looking for peace and quiet, but it might not be the place for people looking for fun and night life. The hotel offers a shuttle service several times a day, but it is not completely flexible as you need to book your seat on the shuttle at least 30 minutes before. Through the hotel, we decided to rent a motorbike, and they were happy to help us with this request. However, if you plan to use taxis, note that a one way trip into Hua Hin is about 200 THB.
The decoration of the hotel is bright and airy, with lots of white wood. We chose one of the pool villas, and it really feels like a completely different place, a dozen of white villas overlooking a huge pool. A true tropical paradise! The beach however is not great, and we ended up spending our time in the pool rather than in the sea. It has to be noted that the maintenance of this hotel is simply incredible. Nothing is left to chance and the cleaning staff really does a thorough job of cleaning and making sure that absolutely everything, whether inside or outside the bungalow, is spotless and working perfectly.
Now for the downside… We stayed there during a school vacation, and there were a high number of families in the pool villas. While most of them were very respectful of the community, a couple of the larger families really made a lot of noise, with water fights and leaving huge rafts float all around the pool, not being picked up or looked after. Some couples actually fled the private pool every day to go to the common pool which, incredibly was more quiet. This could have been manageable, were it not for the ridiculous pool rules…! The pools at the hotel are open from 7am (great if you’re trying to sleep in..) to 6 (or 7pm not sure of the exact time anymore - but early!) pm. This means that when finally the kids desert the pool and adults could enjoy it… well, it closes. And I really mean it closes… Actually, towels even get picked up and chairs folded way before closure time which is not very nice if you want to enjoy the pool till the last minute. One evening, we were quietly sitting in the water on the front of our villa, when the phone rang and an employee accused us of swimming in the pool like we had committed some sort of heinous crime. I must say we were a bit shocked by her tone and very annoyed. But it gets worse.. The next evening, our neighbors were in the pool, making no noise at all, when an employee actually showed up through the garden with a light to order them out of the pool, even though nobody was even remotely bothered by them and most villas were empty with guests away for the evening. Felt like witnessing a bad cop show! At first, we were really not happy with this, but in the end, it just turned into a big joke, and we had huge laughs about it!
The villas are lovely, mainly done in white wood and simple earth tones. They are huge, immaculately clean and extremely well maintained. The bathroom is also huge, with nice amenities. The bed was very comfortable with a lot of huge and soft pillows.
BREAKFAST & FOOD
The breakfast was quite simply amazing. Great buffet with a huge choice of sweet and savory foods, western and asian, as well as an ice coffee bar. It was truly very, very nice!
Very nice and friendly service in general, but particularly room service, which was exceptional. We also very much appreciated the nice gentleman in charge of the ice coffee bar at breakfast who always had a kind word for us and all the guests. However, room service staff need to improve their english. Invariably, when we called them for any small request such as getting more coat hangers or bath towels, they would cut us off and simply say that they would call us back, and then we’d have to wait a while until someone from reception called back to get our request.
Nice property that does not come at a cheap price. Services that are not included in the room price also don’t come cheap. For example, we could not believe that you had to pay for a bucket of ice cubes…
It is really a lovely hotel, but contrarily to its promise, we did not get much rest during our stay there, as it was always quite busy and noisy. It was a major holiday though, so it was probably a unique situation and the hotel is probably much more quiet during the rest of the year. If we feel up to facing the pool police again, we might go back, but will be very careful to avoid weekends or school holidays.
