Excellant hotel and staff, The rooms were very clean and the food was great. The hotel is in a great location close to the night markets and restaurants. Myself and my wife would visit again in a heart beat. If your looking for a hotel in Hua Hin this is a no brainer The Sofitel (Centara Grand) is a clear choice.

In July 1992 50 expats from around the region descended on the Sofitel Central Railway Hotel and on Saturday 18th July the hotel helped organise and run our wedding day. Now 20 years later we are back at the Centra Grand Beach Resort and the same willingness to help and please is still evident across all the staff and management. So much so that from pictures and invitations the staff were able to recreate our wedding banquet on the terrace of the Railway Restuarant - we even managed to book the same suite although the kids filled the adjoining room this time around rather than the brides maids from 20 years ago..!
This hotel is still magnificent and truly deserving of it recent elevation to a Leading Hotel of the World, the staff are genuine and helpful, they are proud of their hotel (and their town) and consequently the hotel works, the grounds are beautiful, the rooms clean and comfortable, the restaurants are first class and you feel at immediately at home - no two or three day's relaxing, you just walk through the door and leave it all behind.
We were concerned that our three teenage boys would not enjoy the hotel as much as us but they loved the place and wanted to stay longer. I think it was the buffet breakfast that had a range of food to satisfy any diet and taste.
The location of the hotel allows you easy walking access to the town and although time/progress has taken it's toll (Starbucks and McDonalds) there are still small restaurants to explore, markets to visit and little bars to stop for a beer.
There are many golf course within striking distance but I still get a kick from jumping in a tuk tuk, crossing the railway line and playing Royal Hua HIn, Thailands oldest golf course - my caddy this year claimed she remembered me from 20 years ago.
Upgrade to the "Club" for afternoon tea and pre dinner drinks to really spoil yourself.
Four swimming pools, outdoor chess, a boules' court, putting green and gym are enough to keep everyone happy - happy hour at the pool is worth a visit, either in the pool or sitting looking out over the ocean.
A brilliant hotel and a wonderful break - we will be back for our 25th anniversary if not next year.

Room tip: The Villas are fun if you are family and want connecting rooms. Any of the rooms facing the beach are good with large balcony's. Corner suites are big and have wonderful balconies.

We took some time in selecting where to stay in Hua Hin and chose Centara Grand Beach Resort for its location. A few steps from the beach, shops, cafes, bars and markets, it is ideally located. We found a great deal on their website and enjoyed 9 nights in a delightful room that entitled us to all the privileges offered at The Club. The food and service was outstanding throughout our stay and the staff were always friendly and helpful. The garden that surrounds the buildings is absolutely magnificent and we felt like we were in an oasis of calm. We will certainly recommend this resort to our family and friends.

Our family of four (parents plus girls of 19 and 22) have just returned from the Centara. We chose this hotel because of its location, we have been to Hua Hin before but stayed outside the town, for us this is a mistake, we like to be able to walk into the town, have a drink and a meal, look at a temple, go to the night market etc.

In our view there is nothing in Hua Hin to compare. We do not like large hotels and do not like high rise, the Centara is low rise, is not large by Far East standards and has great grounds. The service in the Centara is excellent, as good as the best that we have stayed in in the Far East, much better than Africa, U.S, Europe. The rooms are fine (Superior) but not fantastic. The grounds are a real treat, but more than anything we came away feeling that the staff (all of them, the sunbed men, cleaners, reception staff) are all excellent, always helpful, not obsequeous.

The town is great a good mix of restaurants, bars, night market. I am sure we will go back.

Room tip: In the main block we were on the second floor and the views and light are better.

We have stayed in Hua Hin before but in a hotel further from the town so chose the Centara for its proximity to the town as we wanted to walk in to eat etc. We were not disappointed with our choice. The hotel has superb grounds with the hedges beautifully clipped into animal shapes. There are 4 pools all with ample sunbeds. The hotel does not encourage the reserving of sunbeds although this was still done, as there are always some available and each one has 2 thick towels laid on it. The pools do get busy as they are not large but overall the ambiance around the pools was tranquil, with the breeze from the sea adding to the calming effect. There are some organised activities like aqua aerobics but these were never too noisy or disruptive.
The lobby area is beautiful, with a gentle breeze blowing through it - another haven of tranquility. There is free wi-fi in the area as well as the use of 2 computers in the nearby library. The breakfasts were fabulous - smoothies made to order, freshly squeezed orange juice and the best scrambled eggs I have ever tasted. We enjoyed the 'happy hour' drinks by the pool where the prices were very competitive considering the standard of the hotel.
We ate in Hua Hin every evening - the pier restaurants are great, especially Katsuerin which we kept returning to. The food was unbelievably good value and in such a wonderful setting and a lovely lady owner who was really friendly. We also had excellent pizzas in Mamma Mia although it was expensive by Thai standards. We loved the buzz of the night market and had a wonderful time in the Retro bar overlooking the market, up on the balcony. Again, there was always service with a smile and we chose the music from the laptop!
We took trips in tuk-tuks - available just outside the hotel - always cheap and easy enough to bargain with the drivers. We went to the temple with the large Buddha and the royal palace. We were the only western tourists in both!
We didn't use the hotel spa but had wonderful and very cheap massages and a pedicure in one of the massage parlours in town - there are hundreds!
Overall it was a wonderful trip. The staff at the hotel just cannot do enough and everyone is so friendly. We really did feel like honoured guests.
If we have to find anything negative it would be that the room (Superior) was a little cramped as was the bathroom but we spent very little time in the room and the balcony was great with lovely views over the grounds. The shower needed attention as it went from cold to hot but it was dealt with promptly.
As already stated, the breakfasts were superb but it got very busy around 9.30 and the staff became a little overstretched. It was a little cramped in the room that breakfast was served in and the area around the fruit/smoothie station was often difficult to move in.
The beach is lovely and we were rarely hassled but the horses are a problem. At times we had to watch our feet the whole time whilst paddling and the sea was far from clean as a result.
However, overall, thank you to the Centara - we will be back one day.

We arrived and were immedialtely given a cold drink and towel , the room was available instantly. The hotel is in the centre of Hua Hin which starts , just a 200 m walk from the reception desk through the beautiful gardens . To the rear of the hotel is the beach . Also the swimming pools which are kept imaculately clean.
Room had some nice touches --quite air con + fan, large private balcony , bath + shower you can also open a screen in the bathroom and watch TV from the bath.
Break fast is fantastic , international range of food , inc dim sum , sushi , chinese dishes , exotic fruit , cakes and european style food ------do not miss it.
The staff were great all spoke english to an acceptable level, all were keen to help and took a genuine intrest in their guests and their work.-----which is not the case in many english or american hotels i have stayed at .
The room was cleaned twice a day frequently small bowls of fruit or snacks were left for us, in the mornings a newspaper was delivered.
TIP; If you stay take the " Club Deal" which includes use of a lounge , a free cocktail hour and other benifits.
The cocktails were made with good quality spirit , fruit juice diet drinks were avialable ; unlike some hotels that pretend to be 3 , 4 , or 5 star.
TIP; The hotel has a spa and offers massage and other treatments [ unfortunately they are about 10 X the price of any establishment out side WHY DO HOTELS DO THIS! ]. Go just outside the main gate you will find a great range of treatments from qualified and competent persons starting from 250 bhat [ approx £5 ,incredible value, you will also be supporting local businesses].
We eat out every night for about the price of a cup of coffee each back home , we had no stomach problems and were never short changed . If you want to stay in , the food is great , there are also some very good value themed buffets.
There are some baech traders , but unlike some countrys they were polite and if you said "no thank you " left you alone.
TIP Hua Hin has a Tesco shop [ believe it or not } approx 1km from the hotel , a good place to go for keenly priced souviners such as spices , or drinks.

Negatives1, There is not an" in house movie channel " as some brochures state , but there are 2 usa channels that show movies.
2; The Thai staff are great but they are unsure of how to address bad behaviour
when a parent throw a dirty nappy into some bushes [in front of a staff member]
then told her dirty child to go and swim in the jacuzzi , despite signs saying "no
children " he did nothing . YUK!

There are a few steps in hotel and no lift , we were on the second floor and i feel sure that we would haqve been offered a move , if we had wanted one.

I REPEAT -- IF YOU WANT THE BEST AND YOU ARE GOING TO HUA HIN , YOU MUST STAY IN THIS HOTEL !!.

Room tip: Take the club deal --------the extras are well worth it.
