“Monkeys”
Reviewed August 2, 2013

Easy to go to by car or motorbike. Very nice temple with view once you get up the huge stairs. Funny monkeys every where you can buy bananas to for 50 baht. Don't get to close though. Many things to look at. You can buy souvenirs and there is no pushy sellers. Not many places for food but you are not here for food. Nice and clean areas. Free parking.

“The steep climb is worth it for the view - but that's all”
Reviewed July 30, 2013

It's quite a dusty and grubby trek up here, even early in the morning, but worth it for the view. However, as the majority of reviewers have noted, Khao Takiab is one large monkey colony (or, rather, macaque colony). Like their cousins in Gibraltar (the Barbary macaques), they have no fear of humans - because they view us as a source of free food (our fault for feeding them in the first place). However, unlike Gibraltar, these furry little pests are not vaccinated against rabies. A single scratch is all it takes and you've immediately signed yourself up for a course of five anti-rabies injections (unless, of course, you prefer to "take your chances" in a country where rabies is endemic??). Personally, I find macaques unpredictable (even wild ones we've encountered in National Parks) and always give them a very wide berth. On Khao Takiab, keeping your distance and completely avoiding eye contact seems to work. If you have any sense, do not bring any food up here and don't invite trouble by buying it when you get here.
This year, a number of adult macaques even came as far as Khao Takiab village - to the gardens of the S'mor Spa at breakfast time - and proceeded to steal food from just outside the kitchen area. When hotel staff attempted to chase them, they just held their ground and only left once the food was removed. Not good.

“Scruffy little mountain with wild monkeys.”
Reviewed July 22, 2013

Scruffy and tatty. Lots of stray dogs and their dirt at the base and on the beach. My husband did the steep climb to the top but the kids were too frightened of the monkeys.

“Awful”
Reviewed July 20, 2013

There is very little to see at the actual temple all we did was walk up the steps and be attacked by the monkeys

We got a bus from the night market which cost us 10 baht so luckily we didn't waste our money going there in a taxi

You can buy food to feed the monkeys and so they think any bag has food in it and they jump and try and take it from you. They are extremely bold and there are 100s of them. I would not go again :)
